Denver Stiffs Gary Forbes impresses Karl and Anthony

"He's come in and played well," said coach George Karl, who believed that Forbes was a first-round talent who slipped because of his medical record, notably his diabetes.

Karl has not determined his rotation for the preseason games (the first one is Friday), but it's possible Forbes could get some playing time, because Karl said he's going to rest guard Chauncey Billups, who played a lot for Team USA this summer, in half of the games.

"Forbes is a wing guy who can play point guard, shooting guard and small forward," Karl said. "He's a scorer and also a pretty good defender. He's up and down the court a lot."

Looks like forbes may get signed. I have not seen this guy play but he seems like a solid player that could contribute to the team and the article continued to talk about how lawson has improved here is the link  http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_16245246

Denver Stiffs looks like melo is staying

Carmelo Anthony denied that he has requested a trade and said he plans to keep his options open until the end of the season.

"I'm leaving my options open. At the end of the season, I'll sit down with my team, I'll sit down with the Nuggets," Anthony said.

"I never once said anything about trade talk," he said. "There's been a lot of speculation going on."

According to Newsday, the 6-9, 238-pound forward will end up with the Hornets, his fourth team in five seasons.

Newsday reports that once Amundson decides, the Pacers and Warriors will shift their focus on Earl Barron, the 7-footer who isn't expected to be brought back by the New York Knicks. Barron averaged 11.7 points, 11 rebounds and .6 blocks per game last season .</" target="new">

hopefully carmelo stays and we can bring in the right gm, so he can bring in a dominating center so the nuggets can bring us a championship. we need some one that rebounds and plays defense consistently.

Swaying Carmelo Anthony to stay with Nuggets- Denver post

Chauncey Billups wants teammate Carmelo Anthony to stay with the Nuggets for years to come. He's just not willing to say whatever it takes to do so.

Instead, Billups will go the brutally honest route, even if it means Anthony decides not to come back to the Nuggets. Billups, the team's veteran leader, is a confidant of the Nuggets' star, and his advice will play a role in whether Anthony decides to sign a three-year, $65 million contract extension that has been on the table this summer.

"Of course my relationship is going to be more personal than business," Billups said Friday in a telephone interview from Spain, where he's playing for Team USA. "It's tough for me to speak an unbiased mind to him, because I'm in the situation.

I know what he means to the team, I know what he means to the city. So, of course, 100 percent, I want him back. As long as I'm playing I would like to finish my career playing with him. There's no question about that.

"But, at the same time, it's a thin line because I want him to be happy, and I want him to do everything he wants to do in his career and in his life. And if that doesn't involve the Nuggets, who am I to say, 'Man, that's not right?' Or, 'Maybe you should do this.' "

Anthony has one year left on his Nuggets' contract. He and Billups have had in-depth conversations this summer about Melo's status, but Billups will not discuss what was said. Anthony's only public comments on the matter came last weekend, when he said he is simply taking his time making a decision.

That hasn't stopped a deluge of speculation from across the NBA that he might be leaving.

Anthony has tried to stem the tide of speculation via Twitter, making it clear he has made no decision and no one should jump to conclusions. Billups said the Nuggets' leading scorer might have to take steps to make sure those around him aren't adding fuel to the fire by talking for him.

"It's tough, but I think that's the one thing he has to do, is whoever it is in his camp that's speaking and talking and doing whatever, he has to take that up with them and say 'Listen, where's all of this coming from?' " Billups said. "That's something that internally he has to fix.

"Honestly, I think that the publications and things are out of control. None of this stuff has come out of Melo's mouth. He has not once said he didn't want to be a Nugget. He loves Denver, he loves the Nuggets, he loves the fans. So, it's a part of him that I'm sure is eating him up a little bit because he's taken all this press, and he's not said one thing to support or to not support what they are saying. He's just trying to enjoy his summer, chill out.

"I know he's a big story in the NBA now, as far as free agency goes. Even though he's not a free agent, he's the biggest story since LeBron (James) and others are off the market now."

Billups is with the U.S. national team in Spain. They face Lithuania — and former Nuggets reserve Linas Kleiza — tonight in an exhibition in Madrid in advance of next week's FIBA World Championships, to be played in Turkey.

Nuggets management is expected to sit down with Melo some time after the team names a general manager, which it is expected to do next week. Former Suns executive David Griffin is the leading candidate.

Billups has two years left on his contract. Asked if Anthony's decision will play into what he does when his contract expires, he hedged.

"That's something that I really haven't thought about," Billups said. "But one thing that everybody knows is I'm just a winner. I want to win at all costs. I'm not the ride-it-out guy. I want to get out there, get after it and play. And I want to win as a Nugget the rest of my years. In a perfect world that's what I would want, that's what I would hope for."

Denver Stiffs Carmelo words from twitter&Nuggets to re-sign coach Karl's son after waiving him?

Though Coby Karl(notes) was waived by the Denver Nuggets on Friday before ever playing a game for his dad, coach George Karl, he may still get the chance to play for his father, according to AOL Fanhouse.

"Coby has proven that he can contribute at the NBA level,'' Coby's agent Dan Fegan said. "He's gotten better every year. And we're still in discussions with Denver regarding his situation. Just because he's gotten waived doesn't mean that he won't be part of the Nuggets.''

The 6-5 guard out of Boise State signed with the Nuggets in April. He has played for three NBA teams -- Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors. In 24 regular-season games over two seasons, he averaged 2.4 points, one assist and 1.3 rebounds per game. He also played with Spain's Joventut Badalona early in 2009.

Had Coby remained on the roster for one more day, his $854,389 contract would have become guaranteed, the site reports.

MELO has a comment: Funny how people come up with there own analysis of a situation. I tell you boy....... Unbelievable source: http://twitter.com/carmeloanthony

Denver Stiffs Nuggets Waive Karl, Butch

The Nuggets have requested waivers on guard Coby Karl and center Brian Butch, a source said Saturday.

Both had contracts due to become fully guaranteed for next season had they remained with the team following Aug. 15.

Maybe where trying to bring in some more players now Coby and Butch are not going to be here. Hopefully its a true center we have enuff power foward type players on this team. I wonder who are the nuggets going to bring in??

Denver Stiffs Carmelo Has No Timeline On Extension Decision

Carmelo Anthony continues to consider whether he should accept Denver's offer of a three-year, $65 million contract extension, but he indicated on Saturday he has no timeline in place.

"I'm just taking my time with it," he said during his basketball camp at ThunderRidge High School. "Obviously, everybody knows I'm loyal to the Denver Nuggets community and to the Denver Nuggets. I've shown that over my seven-year stint here. I don't think anybody can question that. But at this point in time I have to do what's best for me and my family. I'm just taking my time, figuring out if I want to take that extension or not."

Teams such as the Knicks and Nets are expected to offer Anthony a maximum level contract in free agency next summer.

Denver does not currently have a general manager after the team let go of Mark Warkenstein and Rex Chapman.

"I think my decision is my decision," Anthony said. "I don't think it's based on who is in the front office or anything like that. I'm going to make my decision based on my feelings."

Denver Stiffs Billups '100 percent hopeful' on 'Melo

Chauncey Billups said he may know something about Carmelo Anthony's future after speaking with his Nuggets teammate the past few days. But Billups is keeping it quiet.

Anthony's $65 million contract extension with Denver is growing spider webs on the table. Billups said he hopes Anthony makes a decision on whether or not to sign the extension before the season, so he won't be asked about it in every city.

"I'm 100 percent hopeful," Billups said after Team USA's practice at the Knicks practice facility in Westchester County. "It's between me and my guy. If y'all have a close personal friend and they're going through something and the media asks, you're not going to expose that. Y'all find out when he wants y'all to know."

Anthony, who has had interest in the Knicks, has been in New York supporting Team USA, which faces China in a scrimmage today at the Garden and hosts France tomorrow. Anthony sat on Team USA's bench during Thursday's scrimmage at Radio City Music Hall.

In a clinic at Rucker Park yesterday for the Nike World Basketball Festival, a fan asked Anthony about his future.

"I'm signing a three-year extension -- with Rucker Park," Anthony said, deadpan.

Anthony told The Post on his last visit to Rucker Park in June he didn't like the college recruiting process and wouldn't look forward to being recruited again -- a possible hint he plans to stay in Denver.

Though Billups can't be certain he and Anthony will be teammates much longer, he sees a long, prosperous future with former Knick Al Harrington, who signed a five-year, full mid-level contract with the Nuggets in July. The Post asked Billups if Harrington was underappreciated in New York.

"He had some good times and obviously he had some stretches where he didn't play that well," Billups said. "But I thought he could've been very, very valuable here as a Knick."

Billups hinted the Knicks had no leaders for Harrington to follow, seemingly taking a shot at coach Mike D'Antoni.

"I think a guy like Al is going to benefit from the leadership that we have there," Billups said. "I'm not going to let him get away with being sub-par or not playing defense or not rebounding and still wanting to shoot the ball.

"I thought [the signing] was great for us. I know Al really well. I think for the way that we play, we've been looking for a shooting big anyway for a couple years. And I think he's going to do well for us."

Denver Stiffs Carmelo Anthony invited to White House

This is kind of cool — a couple of different sources have told me that Nuggets all-star Carmelo Anthony has been invited to be a guest at the White House on Sunday (no word if he’ll be joined by Chris Paul and Amare Stoudemire JUST JOKING). Due to White House protocol, no details have been released about what Anthony will do there or, most importantly, if he’ll play President Obama in one-on-one.

Anthony was outspoken during the 2008 race about his advocacy for Obama. He joked that he would try to score 44 points in game after the election, in honor of our 44th president. Here’s a video he did after the 2009 inauguration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2bJVEMMc6U

Melo has been a busy man this summer, getting married in New York, vacationing is Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, and working out and visiting friends in Los Angeles and his hometown of Baltimore.

Hope Obama is not trying to get him to play for the Bulls lol.

Denver Stiffs Shaq 'Close' To Deal With Celtics

The Celtics and Shaquille O'Neal are 'close' to a deal.

Boston is looking to improve their frontline, particularly with the injury to Kendrick Perkins.

O'Neal was traded to the Cavaliers over the 2009 offseason.  Looks like Shaq coming here is not happening. Who should the Nuggets go after now? There is still some good options for center. I wonder if the Celtics will part with big baby leave comments.

Denver Stiffs Are The Hornets After Carmelo?

It has been assumed that the New Orleans Hornets would have to trade guard Chris Paul at some point this year, mainly because most people believe his agent Leon Rose and Chris Paul's new "advisors" at LRMR Marketing won't keep quiet until that's done.

The Hornets don't see it that way. What the Hornets see is they need to acquire a second star-level player to pair with Chris Paul and do it without sending off all their young talent to make a deal.

There are two players the Hornets covet and both could be the kind of talent that makes Chris happy again and the Hornets believe they have the assets to make a deal.

The first is the home run and that is Denver's Carmelo Anthony.

The Nuggets have a three-year contract extension on the table, yet Anthony has not signed it and sources close to the situation say he will not sign it until Denver's turbulent front office situation is resolved.

Nuggets' Vice President of Basketball Operations Mark Warkentien and Vice President of Player Personnel Rex Champman have yet to reach new deals with the Nuggets and their current contracts expire on September 1st.

Nuggets head coach George Karl has one more year left on his deal and the Nuggets roster is hardly a model of youth and vibrancy.

The Nuggets entertained trade talks involving Carmelo before the draft, more as a motivator to get Melo back to the table, but since then talks have really gone nowhere as Melo's camp is in wait and see mode.

The Hornets feel like with their mix of ending contracts like Peja Stojakovic's $14.2 million and younger reasonably priced All-Star talent like David West and his $8.28 million contract combined with huge upside players like Darren Collison, Marcus Thornton and Quincy Pondexter that the Hornets can be in the game if the Nuggets decide to move Melo.

Nuggets ownership has made it clear at all levels – if Carmelo won't extend they have to move him. The Hornets are hoping they can get involved if and when that happens.

The less attractive option is Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala. The 76ers listened to offers on Andre at the trade deadline last year and opted not to move him.

New 76ers coach Doug Collins swears he can make Andre the focal point of the team and have success, but if that doesn't happen quickly, the 76ers could find themselves back at the table and Iguodala is an options that New Orleans would consider, mainly because he could be obtained without giving up David West and all of the Hornets' young talent.

The Chris Paul drama won't end until the Hornets roster is improved, and before you go writing the Hornets out of the story, understand they have the assets to make a deal and are willing to take on contract dollars to make a splash.

Denver Stiffs Karl Makes No Guarantee

The Denver Nuggets were a noticeably less effective team without George Karl on the sideline for him last year. His return is looked at as their biggest addition this offseason, but it's not set in stone yet that he could return.

"I've committed but it's not a guarantee," revealed Karl on the Dan Patrick Show. "The doctor's got up until October 1st if they call me in and say they would recommend against it, I probably wouldn't coach but that has not been the case. Every exam this summer, I have three different doctors I go talk to, they all feel from what they see, what they feel, and what they examine, you're in the right place and hopefully we can continue that with some good tests coming in August and September."

Karl is no stranger to cancer having won a battle against prostate cancer in 2005. While that experience helped him understand the process ahead of him, it didn't take away from the danger.

"I would say this one is probably a little more dangerous than prostate," acknowledged Karl. "But the treatment has been very good. The treatments are in the 85-90 area if they get it early. Right now everything looks great. I haven't had my Petscan yet. That will happen in a couple of weeks. With cancer I think everything is about a five year project where you have to clear all the test in five years, but right now it looks like I'm gonna be okay and I will be ready to coach come October."

The Nuggets can only hope Karl is on point with his projections because without him they could be heading toward a very disappointing 2010-2011 campaign.

Denver Stiffs should we make another move fa or trade?

Should we make another move in fa and or trade?  There are a few good players still out there in free agency but  who will be the missing puzzle to the nuggets championship?? Off the bench scorer Shannon Brown, good shooter and plays nice defense Matt Barnes, 4 time nba champ Shaquille O’Neal but can he still dominate??? How about  Kyrylo Fesenko a huge body and has many years to play. What about Earl Barron avg 11 rebs and 11 points but doesn't play solid defense. Trade for Paul, Posey and Okafor??  Risk messing up team chemistry?? Is the roster good enuff now???  Leave comments!!!!

Denver Stiffs Earl Barron more than decent pick up center or pf

I was checking out all the free agents left and came across him he averaged 11 pts and 11 rebs. I think he is a good pick up plus he has been on the same team as harrington i think we should go after him and if he performs just like he did on the knicks are roster would be great.

Carmelo Anthony  Ty Lawson  J.R. Smith  Chauncey Billups  Arron Afflalo  Nene Hilario  Chris Andersen and Kenyon   Martin healthy  Renaldo Balkman hopefully plays good and  Al Harrington and consider Matt Barnes this would be a great season
