Building The Dam Is this blog on?? duck fan arrogance!

Why hasn't anyone on here brought this issue up? Pond-chicken and I mean chicken $hit fans burned a shirt on the field at Reser causing damage to the field and generally showing how pathetic they are! This infuriates me! Is everyone who runs BTD afraid to bring this to Beaver Nation's attention? Add to this (continued) stealing Corso's head, uncle Phils happiness for the team he's paid for!

Building The Dam Defensive situation

Once upon a time Oregon State football was known for it's defense prowess. As few as 5 years ago we were in the top of most defensive categories in the NCAA much lass the Pac-10, how far we have fallen.

Building The Dam Good news on this Civil War Sunday

Since there has been a lot of talk this weekend about the "open" SC football coaching position I just found some good news from the sports information department at OSU... Mike Riley gets a contract extension, press release here. That SC, soon to be on probation, football team will need to look elsewhere!

Second bit of good news the Men's basketball team just beat down the Ducks, at the Pit!! Good news all around this late Sunday evening from OSU!

Building The Dam Closer than you think.

For the next couple of days most of Beaver nation will be focused on the Football and Basketball games, and rightfully so. However there's some news from the diamond and I don't want anyone to miss it because this season looks promising and I hope Coach Casey and Co. plays to their potential and has a great 2010 campaign. I'm not into preseason polls simply because there are so many variables in any sport, but it's worth the read.

Building The Dam 5000 seats left?

Beaver nation, I know our states economy is tough, but I believe the tickets are going for $45 and that's not bad if you consider the two teams playing Saturday.

Building The Dam Cincinnati game 9/19 @ 3:45: Sell out Reser

For anyone doubting that this will be the most important home game of 2009 here's a little bit of information for you...

I'm not looking past UNLV because that's going to be a very difficult game, on the road, against a Mountain West conference opponent - see BYU over Okalhoma and Utah's recent success - however it appears that the Bearcats have a pretty good team based upon their performance at Rutgers on Monday and their already talking about their QB as a future Heisman candidate.

The only reason I' m bringing up the UC game is because I want a sellout.  And I want it loud! I absolutely have no reason to doubt that Beaver nation will show up, however I also know that recent non-conference home games tend to be more subdued than Pac-10 games and I also have concerns, as documented in the latter comments here that our fans will show up, so I'm starting early. Get the word out, invite your friends, family, anyone you know that has an interest in the Beavers and wants to watch, what should be, a pretty good game.

I want Reser sold out, because to put it mildly Reser needs to be rockin' on September 19th. I know the pond chickens have a 12:30PM game vs. Utah that day so I-5 traffic will be a pain, but dont let that dampen your enthusiasm, the team needs each of us there and I hope everyone who reads BTD will be at this game, and plans on being LOUD!

Building The Dam Former OSU pitcher Mike Stutes

Even though all of us are getting fired up about the upcoming football season, and from what I read here and elsewhere it looks like Riley & Co. have the tools to make it a successful one -- I still like to read about what's going on around the baseball diamond. Here's an article from the local Lake Oswego paper that was picked up by the Portland Tribune. I hope Stutes can keep up his good work this off season so we can see him in the *show* real soon!

Building The Dam Darwin Barney in Portland

2-time NCAA Oregon State baseball champion and Southridge High standout, Darwin Barney , a shortstop with the Iowa Cubs, is in Portland Tuesday - Friday at PGE Park. Anyone who is a fan of OS baseball and the 2 national championships should try to make it to one of the games to cheer the former Beaver on as he continues to pursue his dream!

**Note: This might be our only chance to see Darwin in person the way the Portland Beavers are going... going... Vancouver, B.C.??

Also here's some other OSU baseball news from the Trib. Good news in this case!

Building The Dam No Baseball preview for the Arizona series?

Everyone must be out watching the Masters!

Before I go to far, sad news on the MLB side. After starting his first Major League game, Angels rookie pitcher, Nick Adenhart was killed in a hit and run accident after last nights game. Even though I have no affiliation with the team, I would like to pass my condolences on to his family and teammates and the families of the 2 others that were killed. The only positive news is they caught the person who caused the accident.

Back to the brighter side of baseball, big road series starting today and going through Saturday for the Beavers. Hopefully the warmer weather down in Tuscon will get the bats going with RISP and Waldron, Peavey and Reyes will keep up the great work we've seen so far this year. 2 of 3 would be a nice Easter present for the team!

Good Luck against the Wildcats and safe travels, Go Beavs!

Building The Dam If you're going to the Cal game...

I hope that this weekend’s game vs. the Golden Bears restores my faith in Beaver fans.

Prolog: The game this weekend is bigger, YES I believe bigger, than the USC game. Not only does it bring in one of the top teams in the conference to our house, Reser Stadium, it portends to a very difficult game next weekend in Tuscon. What we, as fans, show this weekend regardless of the outcome will stay with the team when they go down to the desert.

History: ASU 2 weeks ago -- from my section (and from other sections in the stadium that I’ve read about and have heard about) it seemed like our fans were not into the games outcome. Maybe it was the late start or the cooler weather, whatever the reason it was way too quiet considering the games importance. I’m hoping for a similar intensity to what I witnessed when USC was here. By far September 27 vs. USC was the loudest that I can remember Reser, and I’m going back 15 years. The game this weekend vs. Cal must have a similar fervor to SC and can we please have a sell-out (challenge: can we actually sell-out a non civil war game??).

Request: If you go, let the Bears know they're in OSU territory! Don’t be like Duck fan, fighting amongst each other (re: UCLA) just make noise, a lot of NOISE! The Beavers will need the 12th Man (or Woman) behind them this coming Saturday. We expect the team to bring their “A” game, so it’s our responsibility as fans to bring ours.

Update: It appears we finally have a non civil war sold out game! Great job everyone, now the 12th man needs to show up!

Go Beavs!

Building The Dam OSU coaching search

Bumped from the Diaries. --Jake

We need to consider ex-Stanford coach Mike Montgomery

Look at this:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14823802/

How this guy has fallen off the list of quality candidates I'm not sure.

just finished reading the O's article by Mike Tokito -- see OSU coaching search -- which I thought covered the possible candidates well, although there was a name I feel should be on the 'short' list. Where is the name of ex-Stanford and GS Warriors coach Mike Montgomery? He is currently employed as a part-time assistant AD at Stanford, essentially in charge of fund raising -- at Stanford (probably not that challenging!). His NBA coaching career didn't work out as he had hoped, so I would believe he isn't interested in sitting behind a desk the rest of his career -- once a coach, always a coach -- it never really leaves you.

Montgomery brought a program (Stanford) out of the doldrums (sound familiar), helped raise $$$ for a new arena, has Pac-10 experience and knows how to recruit!

I believe the AD knows it's going to take to a name and reputation like his to resurrect the Men's Basketball program -- to at least some level of respectability. If Oregon State is truly committed and serious about reviving the program, Mike Montgomery is the type of coach needed to get the program back on it's feet. At a minimum OSU should  contact him and see if he'd be willing to listen regarding the opportunity!
