Is Billy Grier the new coach?

According to the Oregonian...

It's being reported that Billy Grier is our new men's basketball coach. If this is true, does his hiring get the seats at Gill filled? Will he be able to handle the pressure and expectations that goes along with the Pac-10? And my biggest question... is he the right choice?

We need a coach with experience in the big-leagues and even though he was an assistant coach at Gonzaga and recently the head coach at the University of San Diego, can he bring in the recruits and return the program to at least a moderate level of success? ################### I guess Grier wasn't the guy! However Canzano (from the Oregonian) is touting Ken Bone. He's *definitely* not the coach for the job. Maybe after Bone gets some experience in the "big leagues" but right now we need a total rebuild and that going to take someone who knows how to perform major surgery. Canzano, as always, stirring his odd witches brew...

2-time national champions begin their title defense!

http://www.osubeavers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=4700&ATCLID=1380314

Hallelujah! Baseball season has begun, the OSU baseball team began practices this morning in preparation for their title defense. I hope someone will post regarding the good news! I also hope folks from all over will make the trek to PGE park in Portland for the opening "home" series against Georgia February 29th - March 2nd. Even though the weather probably wont be the best, I'm going to all 3 games, just going prepared like a football game at Reser.

If you really want to show the team and coach Casey how much OSU fans and the entire state appreciates their success, I encourage everyone who can attend at least one of the 3 games to get the new season off to a good start!

OSU coaching search

Bumped from the Diaries. --Jake

We need to consider ex-Stanford coach Mike Montgomery

Look at this:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14823802/

How this guy has fallen off the list of quality candidates I'm not sure.

just finished reading the O's article by Mike Tokito -- see OSU coaching search -- which I thought covered the possible candidates well, although there was a name I feel should be on the 'short' list. Where is the name of ex-Stanford and GS Warriors coach Mike Montgomery? He is currently employed as a part-time assistant AD at Stanford, essentially in charge of fund raising -- at Stanford (probably not that challenging!). His NBA coaching career didn't work out as he had hoped, so I would believe he isn't interested in sitting behind a desk the rest of his career -- once a coach, always a coach -- it never really leaves you.

Montgomery brought a program (Stanford) out of the doldrums (sound familiar), helped raise $$$ for a new arena, has Pac-10 experience and knows how to recruit!

I believe the AD knows it's going to take to a name and reputation like his to resurrect the Men's Basketball program -- to at least some level of respectability. If Oregon State is truly committed and serious about reviving the program, Mike Montgomery is the type of coach needed to get the program back on it's feet. At a minimum OSU should contact him and see if he'd be willing to listen regarding the opportunity!
