So I had a few too many, and I can not sleep. I turned on the TV, and went through the Comcast guide. Something with "Joe Buck" on HBO caught my eye, so I went back. There was a show called Joe Buck Live. I thought no way, not that Joe Buck, every sports fan in the world wants to see him suffer a fate worse than death. I selected the channel, and lo and behold, there was Joe Buck, giving a monologue like he is David Fucking Letterman. The urge to kick my tv screen with full force was as intense as when JR Reed muffed that punt with less than a minute left in the Packers game in 2007.

I just don't get it... why would a network decide that Joe Buck hosting a show would be a profitable idea? As far as I know, he is universally hated by football fans from all walks of life.

I thought this was a good read -

By Paul Domowitch

SOMETIMES, many times, pro football players can't see the forest for the trees. Six years ago, Duce Staley couldn't.

He was a 29-year-old running back with 1,651 touches on his career odometer. He had just come off the "three-headed monster" season of 2003 that saw him combine with Brian Westbrook and Correll Buckhalter for an impressive 2,465 yards from scrimmage.

Staley averaged a career-high 4.8 yards per carry that season, but the whole ensemble-cast thing left him unfulfilled. He wanted the ball. Wanted it a lot more than the 96 times he lugged it in '03.

He didn't understand that sometimes, less is more. Didn't understand that he could have extended his career - and his NFL paydays - by staying in Philadelphia and rotating with Westbrook and Buckhalter.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers offered him a 5-year, $14 million contract and the chance to be their workhorse running back, he jumped at it.

For the first seven games of the 2004 season, things worked out terrifically for Duce. He got 151 carries in those first seven games and racked up 707 yards. Had four 100-yard games.

Then he pulled a hamstring. He appeared in just three more games that season. Needed knee surgery the following summer and got just 38 carries in 2005. Was activated for just one game in 2006 and was released that December.

Which brings us to Westbrook. He turned 30 last week. His 1,854 regular-season and postseason touches through seven seasons are in the same neighborhood as Staley's.

The difference is, Westbrook seems to get the whole less-can-be-more idea. At least that was the impression I got from listening to him Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex.

I'm sure he is sick and tired of reading his career obituaries the last 8 months. I'm sure he is eager to prove that he's not Shaun Alexander or any of the other running backs who fell off the cliff when they hit 30.

That said, he also seems to have embraced the concept of a workload-sharing partnership with rookie Shady McCoy.

Perhaps if George Santayana was part of the BYU curriculum, these things would not happen. However, be it return man, fullback, tight end, we always seem to be severely lacking in a particular position. It seems obvious to everyone but the front office that we should bring in a veteran, but they ignore it or try to convert a player to the lacking position (Parry and Klecko to FB, Lewis as a PR, Bright to TE, etc). For those of you who picked "TE" as the Eagles depth-lacking position du jour, give yourself a gold star.

With all due respect to the Eagles success in the last decade, I just do not understand why we let it get this bad. Granted, Celek and Schobel can return in a few weeks and all is well (sort of), but why have they not learned from past mistakes? The punt return situation of 2007 is still fresh in my mind, have they forgot how quickly things can get ugly if a particular position lacks the necessary depth?

With Schobel already sidelined, and Celek now hurt, we are a few weeks away from opening day and the only active TE's are a rookie defensive end and a 235lb undrafted rookie TE who missed his entire senior season. What if Brent's injury is a bit worse than expected, or he reaggravates it? I thought for certain that we would bring in a veteran, however I suppose it is not a proper Eagles season unless we are woefully lacking in some position.

Well, there's always next season to fix it :P

By Ray Didinger
CSNPhilly.com

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – I don’t have a cell phone. I don’t have a BlackBerry, nor do I Twitter. I guess that’s how I missed the memo.

I didn’t realize that coming to the Eagles’ training camp meant I was working for Andy Reid. I thought I was here as a reporter. Silly me. Well, that’s OK. Andy set me straight after Monday’s practice.

We’re expected to take orders from him – all of us in the media. We’re supposed to do what we’re told. If we don’t, there will be consequences. Reid made that very clear.
