Algeria and Egypt played tonight for a spot in the 2010 World Cup:

"Getting into the stadium was harder than getting into Darfur. Four hours before game time all seats were somehow full."

Why does a Top 5 team have to play on the road in the first round? Anybody out there know how these things work on the soccer side?

What about this guy? Would he be on the short list?

"The Cardinals had their chances, but kept self-destructing behind penalties and questionable playcalling..."

btw: It's not just spoiled UofL fans raising doubts about the coaching...

Kragthorpe and our Mercedes Benz

I'm not the kind of guy that calls for a coach's head after one loss, even a loss to an arch rival.      Honestly, I'm not the kind of guy that wants a coach fired for any number of losses.  It's not about results, it's about level of play.

The national media has gotten Cardinal fans all wrong about this Kragthorpe thing.  I am not so strung out about a loss to Kentucky that I'm ready to discontinue my season tickets.  What makes me want to do that is the increasingly lower level of play.

At the beginning of this season, Steve Kragthorpe (whom I have met and is a really nice guy) was handed the keys to a Mercedes-Benz.  It ran like a dream and cornered like it was on rails.  Perhaps it needed the air bled out of the brakes or a few new spark plugs, but other than that, this car was excellent condition.  Its performance in many realms was unmatched.

Kragthorpe proceeded to take the keys and peel out in the driveway.  On the way down the street, he hit a mailbox and lost the mirror.  He subsequently ran over some nails, stripped the gears, and left the car out in the sun, ruining its perception in the eyes of everyone around.

Believe me, its not about losing a game.  Its the fact that this football team has regressed immensely.  What the nation saw against UK and 'Cuse was the team Cardinal fans have seen all year, with little to no improvement.  The team (defense, offense, and special teams) lacks toughness, preparation, and motivation.  Contrary to popular perception, we have not suddenly turned on the guy.  If you own that Benz, do you continue to let a guy drive it into the ground?

Are Cardinal fans spoiled?  Perhaps.  But do we expect the impossible from our first-year coach?  No.  All I want is the full potential of my hot rod.  At this rate, I'm afraid the thing will be stripped and up on blocks by the end of the season.
