Louisville Preview and an Explanation

1

As some of you should really know, I write a Bearcats site. You should really know that because I just linked to it, and none of you are stupid. I feel like I should explain myself. When I was a youngster, I grew up here. Some of my oldest memories are being at Cardinal Stadium, watching games with my dad. My family moved to Cincinnati around the time I was in first grade. Being in my late 20s now, that means I was growing up right at the time Cincinnati basketball took off. Back then, Louisville and Cincinnati didn't play each other every year, so I found it ok to root for both. Except Cincinnati football, which I didn't care about at all. When Cincinnati and Louisville joined the same league, I rooted for the Cards in football, and in a total cop out, the basketball game to be close and exciting. I would listen to Cards games on the radio, because I was a giant nerd. The only time I rooted against the Cards against UC was 2001, because I was at UC and loved that team. But the Cards had a chance to get an at large bid if I remember correctly, so it wasn't all bad. I still can see Logan throwing the pass behind Stokes at the end of the game. As I grew older, and moved back to the Louisville area, I unabashedly started rooting for Louisville basketball. That was when Huggins was still the coach, so it wasn't abandoning my liking UC just because they were bad. It was a case of being away from UC basketball hurt my interest in UC hoops, along with them sucking. That brings me to about three years ago. Of course Cincinnati football took off. My interest reading about it also went up. When the Bearcats beat Pitt, I wanted to read some UC like version of CC. But, there was none. So I started my own. I truly hate posting links to my articles on here, because I feel it's clearly just fishing for page views, which it is. CC's readership is a lot bigger than mine. Plus, you all click on things because you are very nice. Take away the mascot being arrested, and Mick Cronin not going to NC State, all my biggest traffic days are when something was linked to on the main part of the page. So thank you. That aside, my Card fandom has still been here. When they play at the same time, I'm in the game threads here. When they play each other, I'm still here rooting on the Cards. It's hard doing the twitter for the blog because it has to come from a UC slant. I feel very bipolar. If UC and Louisville played 3 times a year, I would probably go crazy. Anyway, I figured I owed everyone an explanation of things while shamelessly promoting my site. Thank you.

10 Memorable Keg of Nails Games

+

I found this great piece about 10 memorable Keg of Nails games. Since there really haven't been 10, some of the ones late on the list are dumb. But the top 5 or 6 are all very solid, very memorable games. Worth checking out. Mainly because I wrote it.

Random Questions with Mike and Hot Hot

I kind of feel like a douche for sharing my own link, but I don't care at this minute. I asked Mike and Hot Hot and Leigh some random questions. They answered them. I thought it was nice of them, so I'll share it with all of you.

They asked Harry questions, and he answered them. Pretty cut and dry.

Preston! Named Second Team All Big East

7

Preston Knowles was the one Card represented on the All Big East teams per the Big East coaches. As you can see, Peyton Siva was an honorable mention. Can't really say this is surprising. What is surprising is that Ben Hansbrough was the only unanimous selection, which probably means he's a slam dunk to be the Big East player of the year. ALL-BIG EAST FIRST TEAM Kemba Walker, Connecticut, G, Jr., 6-1, 172, Bronx, N.Y. Austin Freeman, Georgetown, G, Sr., 6-3.5, 227, Mitchellville, Md. *Ben Hansbrough, Notre Dame, G, Sr., 6-3, 206, Poplar Bluff, Mo. Ashton Gibbs, Pittsburgh, G, Jr., 6-2, 190, Scotch Plains, N.J. Marshon Brooks, Providence, G-F, Sr., 6-5, 200, Stone Mountain, Ga. Dwight Hardy, St. John’s, G, Sr., 6-2, 195, Bronx, N.Y. ALL-BIG EAST SECOND TEAM Preston Knowles, Louisville, G, 6-1, 190, Winchester, Ky. Darius Johnson-Odom, Marquette, G, Jr., 6-2, 215, Raleigh, N.C. Brad Wanamaker, Pittsburgh, G, Sr., 6-4, 210, Philadelphia, Pa. Rick Jackson, Syracuse, F, Sr., 6-9, 240, Philadelphia, Pa. Corey Fisher, Villanova, G, Sr., 6-1, 200, Bronx, N.Y. ALL-BIG EAST THIRD TEAM Chris Wright, Georgetown, G, Sr., 6-1, 208, Washington, D.C. Tim Abromaitis, Notre Dame, F, Sr., 6-8, 235, Unionville, Ct. BIG EAST ALL-ROOKIE TEAM Sean Kilpatrick, Cincinnati, G, Fr., 6-4, 215, White Plains, N.Y. Jeremy Lamb, Connecticut, G-F, 6-5, 185, Norcross, Ga. Shabazz Napier, Connecticut, G, Fr., 6-0, 170, Randolph, Mass. *Cleveland Melvin, DePaul, F, Fr., 6-8, 210, Baltimore, Md. Brandon Young, DePaul, G, Fr., 6-3, 175, Washington, D.C. I just wanted to say a quick thanks to everyone who visited my site yesterday. It was the most traffic I ever had on a day when the Bearcat mascot wasn't arrested. I feel like I'm annoying everyone with my stupid posts lately, so thanks for not telling me I'm a jerk to my face. But seriously, thanks a lot. You guys are very supportive and I literally (Rob Lowe voice) couldn't have done it without you. There is a reason lots of people love the site, and this is one of mine. So, thanks to Mike for answering my questions, thanks to whoever put it on the main page, thanks to the person who linked to it, and thanks to everyone else for being nice.

Cincinnati Preview

I wrote a preview for the game tonight, and I would appreciate if you guys, and 35% girls, would check it out. I feel a little bad about doing this because someone was nice enough to link to the interview I did with Mike earlier. Read it if you would like. Thank you.

Terrence Williams Sent to the D League

9

The New Jersey Nets sent T Will down to the D League today. His recent behavior drew a post on this site a couple days ago, and now that his suspension is over, the Nets demoted him. Here is a quote. "After discussing the situation with Avery over the last several days, I feel the best course of action for Terrence and the team at this time is for him to play in the D-League," Nets GM Billy King said. "He is currently on the inactive list and this move will allow him to play until he is once again placed on the active list. There is no timetable on his return to the active list, and Terrence’s future status will be addressed at the appropriate time."

Cincinnati Preview

I wrote a preview for the Keg of Nails on my blog. I also wrote about my dilemma about being a Cardinals fan and writing a Cincinnati blog. I would like it if you checked it out. My highest traffic day ever was when I posted a preview during the Big East tournament. You all are too kind. Thank you.

Mike DeCourcy says it's dumb to think about firing Pitino

+

He says what many of us think. I do think it's a bit interesting how forward Pitino has seemed the past year with the media, considering he held a press conference last summer bashing the media. Maybe he realized you have to get out in front of the story you want to be told.

Kevin Willard to Seton Hall

7

He coached at Iona and was a former Louisville assistant. He and Mick Cronin had a big part in recruiting the 2005 Final Four squad. I don't know if he's a good coach or not, but he was only 3 games under .500 at Iona, so that's probably good. Hopefully he will be a bad coach against us once or twice a year.

I don't mean to be that guy who plugs himself, but I wrote a preview of the game tonight on my blog and would like it if you checked it out. It's a UC blog yes, but it's worse than Card Chronicle, which will make you appreciate this site much more. I'm almost doing you a favor.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr tested positive for banned substance

1

Per Dan Rafel, Chavez tested positive for a diuretic before his fight with Troy Rowland. JCC could be suspended for as many as 9 months, and will be fined. If the appeal doesn't get this overturned, the fight would be changed to a no decision. This is a pretty stupid move by JCC.
