What 'The Princess Bride' Reveals About Gregg Popovich
Rumors of a good thing: Gregg Popovich and Domingo Montoya
There are moments when inspiration strikes you and you make a connection, however delicate and insubstantial, between two seemingly dissimilar things. You run away with that idea as far as it would take you, except it all ends up turning into one convoluted mess inside your head. I had such an epiphany yesterday, while reading William Goldman's fantastic book, The Princess Bride, on the very day that Pop won the COY award.
You can decide how much of a mess it is.
[Editor's note: Yes, for those who didn't know, The Princess Bride, was a book long before it was a movie. And it's a spectacular book at that. -jrw]

Kawhi sketch
It's been more than a year since I had one of these. But I was inspired after watching a few videos of Kawhi and marveling at his utter lack of emotion.
"I'm very happy."
"It's frustrating."
"I'm excited to be here."
All said in monotone with the same face.
Kawhi brings to fulfillment all the accusations hurled at Timmy all these years. And I just love it.
Here's hoping his toughness follows him to the playoffs.

Bruce ambigram
In a few days, #12 would be forever immortalized in Spurs lore--he of the great Bruce Lee kick will finally get what he has always deserved--a place among the Spurs greats. His value to the team and contribution to the last three championship runs cannot be emphasized enough.
So here's to Bruce Bowen, one of the most reliable players to don the silver and black; a true workhorse who, day in and day out, kept on pounding the rock.

Pop and TD interview: "If we can get the defense where I think it needs to be..."
Have a listen and find out what Pop and TD think of the team this year.
Pop sketch
Here's a new sketch I made of Pop looking like a homeless man. I can't remember where I got the photo or when it was published. But it's the classic Pop stare. You're not quite sure what he's thinking.
Is he gonna scream at you? Banish you to the bench? Turn you into stone? It's time to find out what the stare really means.

New Manu sketch: If looks could kill
When I saw this pic (video, really) of Manu, I knew I wanted to draw him. But it was a royal pain to draw because of all the shadows and the not-so-clearly-defined details. Never mind the fact that halfway through, it looked like a cross between Tony Parker and Ime Udoka.
I managed to finish it, at last. And I'm quite glad. Because I don't think I want to stare at this sketch for too long. I'm quite positive that Manu Ginobili could kill you with a look. I wonder if he gives that look to whoever is guarding him just before he does his behind-the-back crossover to Euro step his way to a dunk.

Standing on my head
It's been awhile since I made one of these. Usually, it just comes to me randomly. But it's always fun when a word or a name just effortlessly transmogrifies itself inside my head, right side up, upside down.
It's a little rough and I was too lazy to hide all the imperfections so I just downsized the pic.haha. Personally, I like the second one's look better--seems a little less forced than the first.

Ginobili twins on pace for 2030 Spurs signing
via www.clarin.com
Did anybody catch Manu on Twitcam? I don't have Twitter so I found out about it way after the fact. Apparently, he also showed the twins. They look big for five-month old babies but then again, their dad is 6' 6''.
And here's a pic of the Ginobili family courtesy of TMTTRIO:
As usual, they're in matching clothes, but the thing that stands out to me is: even Manu's dog looks fierce!

Manu Ginobili answers your questions in this edition of Spurs.com's Mailbag.
David Robinson sketch
Hey, it's me again. Yay. With the same old, same old.
I just finished this sketch. It's very messy, rough, and I hate the hair and the beard. That said, I still hope you guys will like it. I'm glad it's done because I've wanted to sketch D Rob for a long time now. I just couldn't find a good closeup pic.
So, here goes. Comments, criticisms, suggestions are all welcome.

Hill Ambigram + Tony + Manu + Duncan
Haven't done one of these in awhile. But I really wanted to come up with an ambigram for Hill, especially after he came up big for the Spurs this series. It took awhile to make this little bugger passable but I finally think it's ok now. Don't ask me for a bigger version because that one was ugly.
So here goes...

Manu won't play in World Championships

No, I can't read Spanish. And no, I can't figure out how to move that image to the center. Redikulus.

Someone, please make sure Matthew Powell reads this
Okay, so I'm behind on the news again. When I was quickly browsing the threads, I thought Powell was joking. I only read the article tonight.
Anyway, someone, anyone, please make sure Matthew Powell sees this:
http://manuginobili.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=384767&highlight=#384767
Scroll down near the bottom of that page and you'll see this:
If any of you have visited the original post by Matthew, you know that this actually appears as the last comment. But I'm not sure if he ever saw it.
I'll leave it to our Spanish-speaking friends to translate what Manu said.
Matthew, I'm sad to see you go. I'll miss your commentary especially on one Manu Ginobili. I hope all goes well for you.

Dear Mr. Powell
Sorry for not replying immediately. I'd been busy studying for and taking my final exams the past two weeks, so I just saw your post now. I'm fine with putting up the ambigram on the main page. Thanks for asking.
Of course, I still retain the copyright to this, so if any of you are harboring any ideas of submitting this to the Spurs office for the design of this season's NBA ring... oh wait.
The ambigram you've all been waiting for...
Okay. Maybe not really. Well, anyway, I vaguely remember someone asking for a PtR ambigram. But I took it for a joke because really, Pounding the rock is too long. But some time ago, I started playing around with the letters and finally came up with a decent one.
I'm posting it here in good faith that you will give credit where credit is due and not pass it off as your own. You might think it's crap or what but I'm a little bit possessive with my artwork. I hope you understand where I'm coming from.
So here it is. =)

Video of Manu's recuperation
There's a new video on Manu's spanish site: http://argentina.manuginobili.com/ showing his recuperation. The video is from Manu. It's 1:07min. There's nothing much but for those who want any news whatsoever of his improvement, I thought you might wanna take a look.
And if you guys speak Spanish, I really suggest visiting his Spanish forum. He's been posting there quite often since his operation. Mostly he goes to the Multimedia thread in the manubar forum.
Sketch: Tim Duncan
Here's a sketch to celebrate the resurrection of the Spurs. We really have to win the championship this season/next year. Four months without the Spurs...we all go crazy. When I found out that Sept 29 was media day, it felt like a silver-and-black Christmas for me.haha.
Anyway, I finished this new sketch a couple of days ago. The original pic was taken during the ceremony at Wake Forest when Timmy was inducted to their Hall of Fame.
Videos and Photos from Spurs Media Day
Video interviews:
Coach Pop
Timmy
Manu
Bruce
Roger Mason
Sketch: Mr. Longoria
Here's my latest sketch. I tried to do a better job with the shading to make it more realistic. It's still a bit off. I'm still too lazy to really make an effort to perfect the shading. But what the heck. I'll just post it as it is.

State of THE ankle
Manu posted this in his forum yesterday. At first I thought he was just joking, but I saw the watermark so it really is his ankle.
He's been visiting his forum quite often these days. Said he's got a lineup of movies to watch during his rehab. His latest recommendation is Gone, Baby, Gone. And apparently, he still staunchly refuses to buy a Mac.
