RUDY TALK FROM SPANISH MEDIA

For the first time I'm impersonating AmImart. I am translating the most interesting parts of an interview from marca.com.

Rudy's flat is being reformed. He wanted some "siesta" and he told a Blazers employee there was a lot of noise due to the reform so he couldn't sleep. "Blazers institution called someone in the building and three minutes after, the workers were gone. I hallucinated", says Rudy. This is just a little example of what he is living. Each time he touchs the ball inthe Rose Garden, people get crazy and shout his name. In the street, everyone tell him welcome. "It is impressive" he says. "everything is going very well".

LaMarcus Aldridge, the best Sergio's friend in the Blazers roster is very close to Rudy too. "He is a great guy. Each time he sees me, he shout '¡Rudy, Rudy, Rudy!', as the fans do in the Rose Garden each time I touch the ball", says Rudy. The 'Rudymanía' is a fact. "My own team mates can't believe the reaction of fans at me", says.

Before starting the games, Rudy had a ritual. I listened music, stretchings... "I can't do anymore. I have to be with the media just until go into the court. After the match against Golden State, I was injured and felt pained because we had lost. Normally, I would have gone to think about the game without speaking with anybody. Now I have to meet the media" says Rudy. NBA is another world beyond known by him. Most of things are fantastic. "I can feel I am a rookie when dealing with referees. Anyway when they whistle something on me, they explain the reason of the call. Most of the time, I understand what they told me but sometimes I just nod with the head although I don't understand", he says laughing.

Against Golden State, he had 5 TO. Sergio, six. And they were told off, of course. "It is those times which you have to agree you failed (he says in spanish "you have to drop your ears and bear it" I think in english you say "with your tail between your legs"). "Nate was right. I am starting to understand what he wants and I am in the poccess to do it" says Rudy.

Rudy takes seriously when someone ask him about the dunk on Dwight Howard in the Olympics final not to be pretentious. (In spanish we say "I throw balls out" as meaning "I get rid of those kind of questions. It is not really important for me"). In ACB, he was used to exaggerate the fouls he receives but it seems he isn't exaggerating in NBA: "¡They tell me I have to drop often. Last match I've got a foul in attack without dropping and the coach told me that if they strike me then I must drop. I thought "next time I am dropping on to the floor since I can do it so convincingly" he says laughing.

On Sergio
"Sergio is playing amazingly, he is one of the best in preseason. I think he is the back up PG and he is having a lot of PT. I can tell you that based on what I am seeing in the workouts, and how he is treated by others. Against Golden State he didn't score but dished 10 assists. Spectacular", says Rudy. To him Sergio is very important. I feel so good when he is on court with me. He helps me a lot. He is almost as my brother, I knew him a lot of years ago. He helps me a lot not only out court but on court".

He knows, due to the Martell's injury, coach relies more on him and Nate told him so already. "I can't complain of anything. I couldn't imagine I was going to be so good. People loves me, i play a lot and I feel so good", he ends.

Finally the journalist ends with a joke writting "and when Americans care something so close of spanish culture as it is the siesta, nothing can be bad.

I just thougth Blazers fans would love the Video I am attaching. Rudy Fernandez MVP copa del Rey. His team lost but the other team were much better. Maybe AmImart1 or Nakamura has already posted. If so sorry.

There you'll find recognizable stuff but 5 years ago. He delivers today the same stuff than he did 5 years ago but more often and efficiency. This is the reason he will not actually be a "rookie" next NBA season IMHO.

Some facts you should know although some of them you will find out by yourselves:

This is the final of a second most important competition in Spain. Called Copa del Rey. A lot of NBA Scouts were there.

The teams were Tau (white) and Joventud (green). In Tau roster were former and current NBA players. Macijauskas, Calderon, Scola, Noccioni and maybe some other. In Joventud Digbeu, Tabak and Rudy (guess which #?).

Rudy made the spanish team at 2004 Olympic games and Noccioni and Scola were gold medalist.

Rudy was18 yo (it was in 2004) and his coach was Aito Garcia (spanish national team coach at Oly). His stats were 15,7 points 5,7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals per game.

I hope you enjoy.
