Lakers could win by default

I hate the Lakers, and the fact that they are only 2 wins away from getting their 15 title in franchise history. What bothers me the most is that if they win, they will do it without facing the defending champs, the best team this year, at least in my book.

This whole season I heard about the dream Finals match-up of Kobe vs. LeBron, I mean even Nike ran puppet ad's of the two living together, but that all ended when the Magic took out the Cavs in 6 games. 66 wins got the Celtics to a title, but after sweeping their first two series, the Cavs were lucky the Magic series went to 6 games.

In my opinion the Cavs played a Dallas Maverick like regular season, and unfortunatelyfor them they played a Dallas Maverick like post season. With all that said, we now find the Lakers edge that much closer to another title, but what if.

When the Celtics were healthy this year, they played better than they did last year, and if it weren't for the Lakers and Cavs beginning the season the way they did; talk would have been about the Celtics repeating. With KG going down everybody started talking about a Kobe vs. LeBron Final.

While in Celtic Camp we all thought KG would be back, and the hope of an 18th banner was still on everyone's mind. That all ended when KG was scratched from the playoffs, but even with all that the Celtics still made an honorable run in the playoffs, taking the Eastern Conference Champions to 7 games.

Now we all knew when the trades for Ray Allen and KG were made injuries would be a possibility, but the reward over the risk was well worth it, as the Celtics won their 17 title last season. It just sucks to see the Lakers take advantage of the Celtics misfortunes this year, I rather it be anyone else.

The Mets went out to face the Pirates Tuesday Night, the night after they blew a 5-run lead. Once again they were without key players, but they had their ace Johan Santana on the hill. Despite that, the Mets dropped the second game of this four game series to the Pirates 3-1.

Like game one the Mets got out in front 1-0 in the top of the 5th inning, when Luis Castillo hit a sacrifice fly allowing short stop Ramon Martinez to score. However the Mets gave the run right back in the bottom of the inning, and Santana allowed two more in the 6th inning to be charged with the loss, his 3rd of the year.

Unlike game one, where the bullpen pretty much cost the Mets the game, pitchers Sean Green, Ken Takahashi, and Brian Stokes, pitched 2 scoreless innings. The story of this game was the lack of run support for Santana, and the fact he has allowed 3 or more runs in his last four outings.

Early on in the season Santana had this problem, he didn't get much run support, but back then teams were lucky to score a run on him. Lately he has been getting run support, but also allowing runs. Tonight, the injury plagued Mets gave him one run, but he allowed 3 again, and that my friends equals number 3 loss on the year for Mr. Santana.

Now with the blown game last night, and the lost tonight the Mets can only hope for a split of this four game series in Pittsburgh.

Mets vs Pirates boxscore

J.J. What a Putz

Wow, the New York Metsspent a whole lot of money during the off season so to eliminate blown games by the bull pen, well I guess they should have spent more money. Monday night the Mets got off to a great start in Pittsburgh going up 5-0, only to lose 8-5.

Starting Pitcher Livan Hernandez, who was 3-0 in the month of May, allowed 3 runs on in 5 2/3 innings. He left the game hoping to get his 5th win of the year, and with the bull pen the Mets have this year, why would their be any doubt.

J.J. Putz, was one of the big multi-million dollar acquisitions the Mets got during the off season. His job is to pitch the 8th inning of games but on Monday, he had his second consecutive bad outing. Last night he allowed 2 runs and couldn't even close the inning out, in fact he was lucky to get one out.

Tonight he didn't even record an out, but he did allow 4 runs, as the Mets allowed 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to lose the game. What could have been a nice win to open up a road series ended up a bad lost, and with the Mets hurting the way the are, giving up games like this one shouldn't be an option in that club house.
