West Virginia Mountaineers by CFN
"In the be-careful-of-what-you-wish-for department, as much as the Mountaineers wanted out of the Big East, they would’ve been one of the favorites to play for the whole ball of wax had they stuck around for one more year. After destroying Clemson in the Orange Bowl, the respect is there and the national spotlight is on,...."
TCU AD Chris Del Conte let the expansion cat out of the bag
Del Conte, who was trying to pump up his new conference, told the group of about 200 that while the Big 12 was once in trouble, it "now has schools like Florida State, Clemson and Miami trying to get in."
2012 Baylor Preview - Life After RG3 by CFN
"Obviously Robert Griffin III will forever be Mr. Baylor with the transcendent talent and personality to take a woebegone program from miserable to must-see, and it didn’t hurt to have a slew of other NFL talents around him, but Baylor football might now be more than one franchise quarterback..."
College Football News says so ..Zemek: The Big 12's Place In A Changed World
"Neinas said on Friday, after the announcement of the SEC-Big 12 postseason game, that "We may not be Facebook, but the Big 12 would get a strong 'buy' rating on Wall Street." Neinas, by invoking Wall Street, unwittingly captured the reality of college athletics right now: This is indeed a world in which profits are rarely the result of moral or ethical decisions, and in which meaningful regulation (not regulation for regulation's sake) is painfully absent. 2012 Kansas Preview - Can Weis Win?
"Weis stepped in early on and cleaned house, booting the guys who didn’t want to put in the work needed to try to turn things around. While that might seem like a good move to instill some semblance of discipline and order, it also means that everyone else has to start playing better.."
A Spring Look At Texas Tech Football by the Big 12 Conference
With a video Whooohoo!
Spring superlatives: Texas Tech by D. Ubben of ESPN
See below I am sorry, we get the normal 15 minutes a day writers block from our Big 12 commentator.. weak sauce folks weak.. even the ESPN fans say so.. example.."That's what I always say when Ubbs mentions Tech because he is usually very negative and seems like he'd rather be writing about anything else. Case in point: citing a player no longer on the team. "
2012 CFN Post-Spring Rankings - No. 41 to 50 or where TexasTech is expected to land
#43. Texas Tech
(2011 Record: 5-7, 2012 Roughly Projected Record: 7-5)
Tommy Tuberville’s team should be more dangerous and very, very desperate after last year’s collapse.

"Southlake (Texas) Carroll quarterback Kenny Hill committed to Texas A&M Saturday leaving Cody Thomas as the only uncommitted high school quarterback with an offer from Tech."
CFN: Big 12 coaches using spring to address issues
"But defense was a year ago under coach Tommy Tuberville, who said the main focus of spring practice in Lubbock was to fix a unit that was nearly as bad as Kansas'."
Free story from RedRaiderSports.com "Texas State the Spring Recap 2012"
"Now you're playing with the big boys in FBS and you're going to have a 12-game schedule that each week you're going to need quality depth. You can't just go in there with a few guys that you hope can help you out. You need 10 or 11 quality guys."
Spring 2012 - Key Questions from CFN
A short Q& A from Joe Yeager with/to the College Football News Staff. "Hmmm"
Turfburner:Breaking Down the 2012 Big 12 Schedule: November
Now it's time to move on to the final month of the season and it's going to be a good one (the games for December 1st are also included here).
It's probably safe to say the race to the Big 12 championship is going down to the season's final weeks with November being loaded with plethora of great games. The conference standings entering November could very well have no resemblance to the final standings when the regular season comes to an end on December 1st.
At OU, Mike Stoops is back — but will Sooners' tough defense also return?
Oklahoma did lead the Big 12 in fewest points allowed (22.1), but in its losses to Texas Tech, Baylor and Oklahoma State, it was a vastly different story.
In those games, the Sooners allowed a total of 1,154 aerial yards and passing plays of 40, 44, 48, 50, 53, 69 and 87 yards en route to surrendering an average of 43 points per loss.
"In the losses, we gave up an alarming amount of yards, and that was disappointing," said Stoops, who also serves as the secondary coach. "We took a lot of criticism, and rightfully so. We were exploited at times, and were out of place. We didn't have very good position on the ball
Big 12 spring football tour: KU's Weis, Campo need major improvement from defense
Charlie Weis, it's your turn.
If you're Kansas, however, why shouldn't you gamble? Sure, the school's had its share of football heroes, from Gale Sayers to John Riggins, but there've been a lot of dry years between John Hadl and Todd Reesing. If you can attract a big name who wears Super Bowl rings and has Tom Brady on speed-dial, why not ask him to reverse the fortunes of a Big 12 program that has had 12 losing seasons in 16 years?
DMN short piece with links on QB's @ Tech
2012 outlook:
Regardless of whether Stephens is healthy or not, Doege has a lot of weapons around him including three receivers that caught for more than 500 yards each
WVU AD Luck: Big 12 should look to expand
"My recommendation would be to look long and hard at moving up, whether it’s to 11 or 12, particularly when you look at how big the SEC is, how big the ACC is going to be, the number that the Big Ten and the Pac-12 are at," Luck told ESPN.com this week. "I think it would be wise to take a long hard look at that because there is some strength in numbers."
Turfburner's recap of the 2012 Spring game
Reading into the coaches' comments following the game, it sounds like the there was an emphasis on helping Brewer build some confidence prior to fall camp. With last year's backups, Jacob Karam and Scotty Young, leaving the program in the offseason, Brewer will be the first guy off the bench should Doege go down at any point this fall. "It helps that he’s going against the (No.) 2 defense," offensive coordinator Neal Brown said, "but I wanted to leave this spring with me having confidence in him and the rest of our team having confidence in him. I think we got that done today."
College Football News 2012 Spring Football
Been away so this may have been posted.. but I dont think so..2012 Spring Football
There are few coaches in college football on a hotter seat than Tommy Tuberville, and he and his staff have to use this spring and this offseason to turn things around by figuring out how to find a defense and a more consistent offense. After so much promise and so much potential shown in close losses to Texas A&M and Kansas State, and with the shocking upset of Oklahoma, the Red Raiders fell off the map with one of the nation’s worst defenses and an offense that went into a mystifying tank.
Tuberville is a proven, talented coach....

Big 12 Schedules - OSU to WVU or the other half of the conference
Tech - There are only four road games in conference play with Texas, Oklahoma, and West Virginia all having to make the trip to Lubbock. It’s dicey in the middle of the year with back-to-back road games at TCU and Kansas State before hosting Texas.

Texas Tech 2012 Recruiting & Schedule by CFN
Looking Ahead To The 2012 Season: Are the Red Raiders going to be able to overcome the nightmarish end to the 2011 season? QB Seth Doege is a veteran who struggled to keep the chains moving, but he’s a good talent who could be far better if the receivers can help him out a bit more.
Texas A&M-Texas Tech rivalry could be the next to bite the dust
No games if aTm doesnt play Tech in all sports.."We discussed it with all our head coaches," Hocutt told the Journal, "and that's something we as an athletic department and we as a group of coaches feel strongly about at this time."
Williams: Year three critical for Tuberville
"The last half of Texas Tech's football season was disastrous, leaving Tuberville and the returning Red Raiders with a lot to prove in year three of the new program."
Man - Don Willams is criticizing the status quo .. I am in shock..
So it’s come down to 5 things (concepts) for a successful Raider 2011 season
Londons evaluation of the D line
Tackle like you mean it. Making them run 17 plays is not necessarily a bad thing. If they don't score anything but a field goal. But it’s so much better to get a 3 and out. See Ou 2011. Blitz and wrap up.When you demonstrate an inability to shut off the run or zone read then you will be flogged with it, get a mismatch some place and ram it down the opposing offense throat.
Don't come off the field on unsuccessful 3rd downs .. there is always 4th down and it hurts the opposing defensive coordinators head. It’s not every time but I say if it’s under 4 yards roll the dice. 50% of the time it works every time, it’s a go and they the opponent pay the price in lost momentum. We the Raiders are the gamblers here. Tech has nothing to lose. It’s not a badge of honor to lose by 6 versus 17. If you are scaring the pants off the other side by scoring on every possession we have the opportunity to unnerve the other staff. Do we get it? There is no tomorrow for 2011 folks. Tech either wins 2 out of the next three or doesn't go bowling. It's Not going to matter folks.
Cowboys vs Red Raiders coverage
Make the other guy lose the ball – take aways mask all faults. We need 3 take aways per contest here from here on out. Doesn’t really matter force a fumble, stripped pass, ball jarred loose on a kick of coverage. It’s only important how many scoring opportunities we remove from the opponents ledger. The corollary is don’t fail to get points from the takeaway. Remember point # 2 above the offense must not come off the field unless they score… is it a 100 % formula no.. but chaos theory favors the bold and the precise. We have been precise all season, it’s time to be bold as well. Head coach. Harness your inner Viking.
Don’t panic do the routine play .. it’s ok to dink and dunk your way into the end zone. Remember into the end zone Raiders. No one can stop the 5 yard crossing route, the shovel pass or the 6 yard out route. Use them to the tune of 350 yards. Dive, sweep or draw for another 100 yards Neal Brown..it will be okay. Score, lineup do it all over again.
Keep everything in front of you - the Headcoach must take long chances. Combination of thoughts first I don’t believe nor do I accept that Tech is out classed player for player by any other team in this league. That being said we can be out schemed if for instance the offense has an NFL caliber offensive tackle you are going to have to account for him. He must have series of blitz stunts and mob rushes thrown at him while a safety or linebacker spies the running back/QB risky yes.. high payoff possibly but surrendering to the upcoming opponents the option of doing what they like to do is a recipe for being down by 21. At the half. And if they are going to put 2 tight ends in then a 5th down linemen is required, create an anchor point ( a defensive pilemust be created) and the lone strong safety or linebacker is the only guy who is going to be on his feet for the tackle. BTW punting when the other team has decided to skull drag you with their rushing attack is not going to help.. you know and I hope the coaches know that giving it back and hoping is not an option. You are going to need an extra possession by any means available head coach..

10 things to worry about versus the unwashed masses known as longhorn fans oh and their team.
Sloppy tacklers: Tech has to be a wrap up product on defense all night. I am not saying they are doomsday or the steel curtain just get your arms around the running back and hang on. Don’t drop your head and leap, and pray. Just slug them in the mouth, take their lunch money and manhandle the crap out of anybody with the ball. You see these guys are like the Russians they only respect strength. Everyone harness your inner Cqlin Hubert baby. 4 missed tackles is all we are allowed. 7 QB hurries and 3 sacks should pay the bill.
We are beset by chardonnay drinkers (Longhorn fans that is) Ut tends to think of themselves as the class of the league and I suppose someone has to be it.. but they have had a few slugs in the mouth much like us so it’s been a come down of sorts. Never the less they are very good at what they are doing short passes, lots of reach blocks, draws and sweeps to the short side trying to get a CB or Lb out of position. Tech needs 3 take aways and a couple of forced fumbles. Defense must stay in the hole..all game long.
A sleazy lawyer is why they named their field- Joe Jamail Field, let me see he’s an attack lawyer who built a rep bully ragging folk’s right? Extract of his hijinks "Delaware Supreme Court referred to Mr. Jamail's conduct as "rude, uncivil and vulgar," "abusing the privilege of representing a witness in a Delaware proceeding," 637 A.2d. 34, at 53, as displaying "an astonishing lack of professionalism and civility," and as "outrageous" and as "unacceptable," for statements to deposing counsel such as "you could gag a maggot off a meatwagon." To be fair he’s sent them 40 acres folks a lot of money but the school put up two statues in return. So the field naming thing well its over kill. Kinda like the LHN and D. Deloss’s defense thereof. It’s just a sports venue to play on so I would hope your Red Raiders aren’t intimidated. In fact I don’t expect them to be. They weren’t vs. OU in Norman, so let’s dump these guys at their house, silence the crowd and get back to the airport. BTW we are 28 -5 in the modern era of competition in Austin. I want see Doege to Corndog, Jacoby Franks, Alex Torres, Marcus Kennard, Tramain Swindle, Darrin Moore and Eric Ward to quiet down the 90,000 ut fans with 6 tds.(Plus)
Everyone knows Mack the smack: he’s probably telling his players respect everyone and fear no one. But he’s telling the UT assistant coaches hey look our jobs and our bonuses are on the line with this bowl eligibility stuff let’s play real soft the first period stop the pass then blitz all out in the 2nd period. He really wants this to be a UT stern chase i.e. get us down by 10 or more. Conversely its critical Tech score 21 plus the first half and make Mr. Ash and then Mr. McCoy throw. A whole lot.
Tommy can’t lose his nerve. You know what I mean no retreat, no protecting a lead, no excuses, no sniveling he’s got to take some serious risks. 4th and 3 from the 50 yard and go for it. Or Punt and make Ash and the longhorns march 91 yards for FG. Attempt. Which the Raiders block! When Eugene Neboh launches himself from 3 yards out. Some special team’s trickery is in the offing.. feel your inner gambler MR. Tuberville Feeel it .
Russian Coffee is all in. I posted earlier that I felt he would need to blitz on every play and I still feel like they are going to have sell out the first period on run blitzes to halt the Horns 2 or 3 times. It would not bother me if J. Tucker their way cool punter kicker has to get on the field more than say 8 or 9 times. For UT punts. Only. I only ask that we hem them in and give the ball back to Seth Doege and crew. Late in the game perhaps we play soft when we have that all important 10 point lead and Texas has to pass to try and make up ground.
No one loves an also ran (or at least they get no press)and no votes in the top 25. I am tired of being mired in the top of the bottom of a 10 team league we want some street cred and Austin is where we can get some.
Raiders better travel early on Friday because Tech teams have sucked at early games. Colorado 2007; Mizzou 2005; Cotton Bowl 2006; Ticket city Bowl 2011. I don’t want this to bad trend to continue, no sucking in the morning just get after these folks. Eggs and ass whippings served up. Make someone wish they were second string. End this morning putridness coach this game, bury it. In Austin.
The fact is Austin harbors criminal run aways from Libya. Its true CNN said so. That being said We need Sonny Cumbie to whip these guys into frenzy with some cheap shot revelry like: Remember Jarret Hicks knocked out of the game in 2006, remember Graham Harrell in 2007, remember Helmet to helmet with criminal boy Kindle (who can't drive and text) on Taylor Potts. They are shit birds and deserve a whoopin. Yarrggghhh!
The coaches should not worry about motivation and can’t miss the opportunity to get them motivated for a grudge match. This is a worry but really how does any Tech grad not get fired up for a brawl with the orange blooded snoot noses? I think the team is fired up to slap the snot out of the entitled ones. Maybe we even push over that neutered steer they use as a mascot. Maybe. Emotion and fire and zeal. Just be the most excited to play in front of 102,000 screaming fans and run them out of their house for change. I don’t want that imitation cannon to bark even once.
CFN Preview - Texas Tech at Texas - a surprising viewpoint
"Why Texas Tech Might Win: Texas is ninth in the nation in pass efficiency defense and it’s allowing just 192 yards per game. There’s a reason; the defense hasn’t faced anyone outside of the state of Oklahoma that can throw. "
"Why Texas Might Win: Besides just being dead-calm flat, how did Texas Tech get blown away by Iowa State? Three turnovers were a problem, and the problems on third down didn’t help, but the Red Raiders lost because they were steamrolled over. The Cyclones dominated on the offensive line, paving the way for 368 yards and four scores with two backs going over the 100-yard mark and quarterback Jared Barnett rumbling for 92 yards. "
Deflated Texas Tech in need of emotional rescue
Tommy Tuberville has a clear takeaway from it all.
"We don't know how to handle success, obviously,'' the head coach said. "But it's a good lesson learned.
