"I'm lucky that I have another opportunity to play again," an upbeat (Eric)Stephens said. "It was disappointing but I think everything happens for a reason and I have the chance to get to that 1,000 (yard) mark this year. I have another year and that's all that really matters now."

Big 12 Media Days - The Big Questions by CFN

"What does Tommy Tuberville have to do to keep his job? There’s still a sizable portion of the fan base that still can’t figure out why Mike Leach is the head coach at Washington State instead of at Texas Tech, but the chance is there for Tuberville to change around a rocky first two seasons and.."

Transcript of the Coach Tuberville interview @ the Big 12 Media days

Per the Headcoach: "we are going to be better defensively with our three deep" "very little drop off from #1 to # 2's"

Founding Fathers in Ring of Honor by Joe Yaeger of RaiderPower.com

"In 1937 Cawthon’s squad became the first college football team to travel by plane to play an opponent. And his teams, tricked out in solid red satin uniforms, became known as the "Red Raiders." After one particularly disgruntling loss, Cawthon said to his flashy, high-flying team, "I feeds ya’ like Notre Dame. I dresses ya’ like Notre Dame. And ya’ plays like Oklahoma Normal!""

Oklahoma State Cowboys by College Football News

"The OSU offense lost coordinator Dana Holgorsen and kept on rolling. The attack was great when Zac Robinson was under center and it kept on flying after Dez Bryant became ineligible. Gundy has been able to put together good enough teams to be in the conference title chase on a regular basis, and now, after breaking through and winning the Big 12 championship, the program has the credibility to show that it might be here to stay. Oklahoma State has found its niche.."

Texas Tech REALLY Doesn't Want to Play on the Longhorn Network

13

Not for the post but for priceless "classy" longhorn fans talking/comments about another programs choices or druthers..nice folks.. hmm slow news day.. "The Red Raiders are making noises that they would rather cancel the game, pay a buyout to Texas State and just play 11 games in 2012 than show up on the Longhorn Network. It is probably just a ploy to try and get ESPN to put the game on another channel. Yep, this whole new "brotherhood" that is the Big 12 where it is all for one and one for all is getting off to a great start. "

Ranking The 2012 Big 12 Defenses by Scipio Tex

"They're maligned nationally, give it up each Saturday, and love bedazzled jogging suits. I'm speaking of the Real Housewives of Anywhere and Big 12 defenses. That is the popular perception and though there is some truth to it (at least according to the NFL draft), in 2012, the league will feature a few salty defenses to pair with its expected peppering of inadequacy. In fact - defense - not offense - will be the key differentiator in establishing this year's league hierarchy."

Nice slide show with commentary as to why everybody should love this years version of the Big12..

DMN: Texas Tech football burning question #5: What's an acceptable record?

13

"Texas Tech has the talent and depth to be competitive in Big 12 Conference play and it should translate to a bowl game appearance. That really is the floor for expectations with a powerful returning offense and an improving defense."

DMN: Texas Tech football burning question #4: Can Eric Stephens break the 1,000 yard mark?

5

"This is a money year for Stephens. If he plays, Stephens will exhaust his NCAA eligibility at the end of this season and go to the NFL Draft so the coaching staff and the running back would be smart to elect to go for a redshirt season if the running back is not 100 percent. Stephens can redshirt without doing any NCAA paperwork because he has never redshirted before."

DMN: Texas Tech football burning question #3: What can QB Seth Doege do for an encore?

+

"Assuming the Texas Tech defense improves marginally this season, the Red Raiders' senior quarterback will get the ball in his hands a few more times per game with an outstanding group of receivers led by Eric Ward who had 800 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in 2011."

DMN: Texas Tech football burning question #2: What's the biggest concern entering the season?

6

"The Red Raider defensive line and linebacking corps look vastly improved from a season ago and there are two multiple year starters at the safety spots. But not much was resolved at cornerback during Texas Tech's spring practice sessions between players still recovering from injuries and others not developing as quickly as fans would have hoped for."

The Unlevel Playing Field by College Football News

1

"Yes, the NCAA caps all teams at 85 scholarship players per season, but the above illustration highlights how some conferences juggle the rules beneath the rules differently, and in so doing provide their member institutions with a material, unequal advantage. It’s not just Alabama – many SEC schools have taken advantage and stretched these scholarship rules, particularly over the past decade. The SEC is playing the best football in the nation right now, and there are many factors to that beyond the number of players signing scholarships. However, it’s difficult to argue with the fact that having more players from which to select your final 85 gives a team a distinct advantage."

The 2012 Kansas State Preview - The Formula by CFN

"The talent isn’t there compared to most Big 12 schools, and it probably never will be. Only four Wildcats were taken in the last four NFL drafts, and one of them – running back Bryce Brown, taken in the seventh round last season by Philadelphia – sort of doesn’t count. However, Snyder’s system is so rock-solid that the marginally talented, limited team was able to hang toe-to-toe with all the high-powered powerhouses in the Big 12 last season"

West Virginia Mountaineers by CFN

+

"In the be-careful-of-what-you-wish-for department, as much as the Mountaineers wanted out of the Big East, they would’ve been one of the favorites to play for the whole ball of wax had they stuck around for one more year. After destroying Clemson in the Orange Bowl, the respect is there and the national spotlight is on,...."

TCU AD Chris Del Conte let the expansion cat out of the bag

8

Del Conte, who was trying to pump up his new conference, told the group of about 200 that while the Big 12 was once in trouble, it "now has schools like Florida State, Clemson and Miami trying to get in."

2012 Baylor Preview - Life After RG3 by CFN

1

"Obviously Robert Griffin III will forever be Mr. Baylor with the transcendent talent and personality to take a woebegone program from miserable to must-see, and it didn’t hurt to have a slew of other NFL talents around him, but Baylor football might now be more than one franchise quarterback..."

College Football News says so ..Zemek: The Big 12's Place In A Changed World

7

"Neinas said on Friday, after the announcement of the SEC-Big 12 postseason game, that "We may not be Facebook, but the Big 12 would get a strong 'buy' rating on Wall Street." Neinas, by invoking Wall Street, unwittingly captured the reality of college athletics right now: This is indeed a world in which profits are rarely the result of moral or ethical decisions, and in which meaningful regulation (not regulation for regulation's sake) is painfully absent. "

2012 Kansas Preview - Can Weis Win?

2

"Weis stepped in early on and cleaned house, booting the guys who didn’t want to put in the work needed to try to turn things around. While that might seem like a good move to instill some semblance of discipline and order, it also means that everyone else has to start playing better.."

Spring superlatives: Texas Tech by D. Ubben of ESPN

See below I am sorry, we get the normal 15 minutes a day writers block from our Big 12 commentator.. weak sauce folks weak.. even the ESPN fans say so.. example.."That's what I always say when Ubbs mentions Tech because he is usually very negative and seems like he'd rather be writing about anything else. Case in point: citing a player no longer on the team. "

#43. Texas Tech (2011 Record: 5-7, 2012 Roughly Projected Record: 7-5) Tommy Tuberville’s team should be more dangerous and very, very desperate after last year’s collapse.

"Now you're playing with the big boys in FBS and you're going to have a 12-game schedule that each week you're going to need quality depth. You can't just go in there with a few guys that you hope can help you out. You need 10 or 11 quality guys."

Turfburner:Breaking Down the 2012 Big 12 Schedule: November

+

Now it's time to move on to the final month of the season and it's going to be a good one (the games for December 1st are also included here). It's probably safe to say the race to the Big 12 championship is going down to the season's final weeks with November being loaded with plethora of great games. The conference standings entering November could very well have no resemblance to the final standings when the regular season comes to an end on December 1st.
