LSB Fantasy Baseball League
I sent out the email for the LSB fantasy league, but I have no idea if everyone who was in the league last year got it so I just wanted to post this here. If you played in the league and didn't get the email, let me know
The draft starts Thursday at 7pm, but we can always change it if that's not a good time.
If you weren't in the league last year and want to be, email me and I'll try to get you in if there are spots open.
Minute Maid Park
I'm gonna be going this weekend just curious as to y'alls opinion on where the best place to sit is? I don't wanna spend more than 60 bucks. Is 1st base or 3rd base side best? Thanks!
MLB.tv
Does anyone else use a proxy to connect to mlb.tv? I couldn't get one to work today, did anyone else have that problem?
LSB Fantasy Baseball League
Ok so obviously I failed in my earlier attempt not to take up board space with this, but talking with Adam, I'm just going to go ahead and make this public since it's the easiest way to accomplish this.
We started doing a "boardie" fantasy league back in 2001 when everyone was on the ESPN boards so this will be the 9th year we've done it. Now that everyone from the league posts or reads on this board, it makes sense to include more people in the league so we're making 2 teams this year, and A and a B. The A team will be mostly people that have been in the league before and the B team will be for new players.
After the season we'll take the top 6 from both leagues and form the next years A team and the rest will be in the B team.
We need about 10 players for the B team so obviously not everyone will get in and the only fair way is to pick people who post here regularly or have been participating in LSB for a long time.
You don't have to have any experience in fantasy baseball and it's 100% free through yahoo. We just ask if you want to participate then please keep up with your team. If you can't make the time commitment to set up your roster once a week, then please don't ask to join.
So if you would be interested, send me an email at LSBfantasyleague@gmail.com. Please put your user name in the email. The draft date is currently March 28th at 9:30pm, but you don't HAVE to be there for it although its highly suggested you do.
Derek Holland from a fantasy league prespective
Apparently they like him.
Young at 2nd base
Does anyone have the numbers back when he was at 2nd base? I just want to know what his defensive abilities were when he was playing 2nd base. I realize his lack of range will still be an issue over there but how much of an issue will it be? Could he be average defensively there or slightly above average? What was the general consensus about his defense at 2nd?
I need five more words
Molina hits home run, doesn't score a run
Bengie Molina had a single overturned on replay Friday and was awarded his 16th homer of the season.
Yet, he didn't score a run. Just another example of how slow Bengie is? Kind of. After Molina long shot off the top of the wall in right was originally declared a single, the Giants opted to have Emmanuel Burriss pinch-run for him. When the replay overturned the call, it was Burriss who came around to score. Manager Bruce Bochy argued that Molina should have been allowed to return to the game and played the game under protest when he didn't have his way. Molina has 46 runs scored this year, which is actually his highest total since 2000. However, it's still a remarkably low total for a guy who started 131 games in the cleanup spot.
Running hard to 1st
Just got done reading Jamey's report this morning and he touches something that's always been sort of a pet peeve for me and that's celebrating the fact that someone runs hard to first base.
Everytime it happens, it seems like the announcers or someone will comment about how hard the player ran to first base and how awesome it is to see a player doing whatever it takes to help the team. Hamilton did it in last nights game and so did Byrd.
Am I the only one that just expects a player to run hard to first base? Why is it we praise players for doing this? To me there's nothing easier in the game than running hard to 1st base especially when you're trying to avoid a double play or get an infield hit. Why do people make a big deal about it when it happens?
OT: Lawyer Question
A friend of mine was behind on her rent and the apartment complex decided to seize some of her property. They took her computer and her playstation 2 out of her apartment while she was gone and gave her a deadline to pay the rent or they would sell those items.
She said they had some sort of legal court case saying that they could do that, but it just seems fishy to me. Can an apartment complex just come in and take anything they want like that?
Marlon Byrd
He came into the game today hitting .249/.286/.395 in the second half with 185 at bats. He also has one of the lowest range factor and zone ratings for a center fielder in the league if those stats even mean anything.
And the hunt for a center fielder continues for us
Good news for Adam
Eric Byrnes resigns with Arizona
According to the Arizona Republic, Eric Byrnes has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Diamondbacks.
The deal is said to be worth around $30 million and comes shortly after the two sides reportedly broke off negotiations. The newspaper speculates that with Byrnes signed long term and both Chris Young and Justin Upton not going anywhere, the Diamondbacks may look to part with Carlos Quentin.
Rotoworld on Wilkerson
"Brad Wilkerson homered to give the Rangers all three of their runs in Monday's loss to the Red Sox.
Wilkerson also doubled the previous two days, giving him six RBI in the last three games. On a per-at-bat basis, his numbers aren't that different from Sammy Sosa's. Wilkerson is batting .222/.306/.463 with 10 homers and 33 RBI in 162 at-bats. Sosa, who has had the advantage of hitting high in the order, is batting .251/.304/.469 with 14 homers and 63 RBI in 271 at-bats."
Seems like I've heard this comparison before somewhere.
The climb back up
Since we've played basically one month now, I went through and calculated what it would take for a few of our hitters to reach the numbers they hit last year. [Note: this assumes the player reaches the same number of plate appearances]
Lofton .312/.369/.416 (522 PA)
Teixeira .293/.377/.547 (727 PA)
Catalanotto .324/.397/.482 (499 PA)
Young .333/.379/.482 (748 PA)
Not impossible, but I think it goes to show that just because we expect these guys to start hitting, the hole they've dug is going to make it quite difficult to get to what they've done in the past.
Leave hurlerhurley alone...
he's cool.................

The bright side...
The Rangers are the major league leaders in walks with 14.
If we can add some actual base hits into there, we might start winning a few games.
Barry Zito
I've been reading a lot of diaries and comments and it seems like a lot of people want to sign him. I'm sure I'm not the only person here who doesn't want to have anything to do with Zito am I?
John Koronka
Seems like there are a few new Ranger fans on the board these days who believe John Koronka is a terrible 5th starter and should be replaced.
Personally, I'm thrilled to have Koronka has a 5th starter because he's been our best 5th starter in a really long time. I'm gonna list the names of some pitchers who we'ved used in the past few years and after I'm done, take a minute to remember these darker times and be thankful for what we have now.

Newbie alert
I've been told to come post here...So here I am. And apparently I need 300 characters to post this because of this rule:
One-line diaries are prohibited on Lone Star Ball. Give your diary a bit more thought, then give it another shot. If you have nothing to add to your proposed diary, then it probably belongs as a comment under another appropriate thread.
Sorry meno.
