Who Should The A's Sign To Big-Time Contracts?
Well, Kurt Suzuki is under contract until at least 2014, and so is Brett Anderson. The thing is, who else can we sign to a long-term contract? We need to make the club more stable.
Right now, I'm all for signing Bailey and Ellis for a few years. Bailey is a strong young pitcher, and the A's are all about "young talent and building for the future"(of course, the future never becomes the present). He already has 20 saves this season, and is the best option we have at closer. Say what you want to say, Wuertz and Breslow won't get it done. Plus, I'd much rather have a "tried and tested" closer than a "trail and error" closer. Ellis, well, Ellis has been here for a long time. He's part of the backbone of the time, and is very solid defensively. He isn't the biggest offensive contributer, but the fact is, he is a big part of the A's, just like Chavy and Duke. It's good to have a couple of grizzled guys in the clubhouse.
Of course, there should be some youngsters in the clubhouse. No worries about that: Billy Beane is always coming up with new youngsters. But which one of the youngsters we got now is ready to be signed to a stable contract of at least two years?
A hitter is needed. I think that Rajai (even if he isn't a real youngster) should be signed fairly big time. He provides strong D, a pretty good bat, and of course speed. He's great, because when he gets on base, he puts pressure on the opposing pitcher. Pressure makes a pitcher nervous, and nervous pitcher is bad one. At least, for his team. The more pressure is put on you, the bigger the chance you have of making mistakes.
So overall, those are guys I want to see back for some time. And a few others. Of course, with Billy Beane, you never know, do you?
