Crennel: Chiefs head into draft without holes

39

From KC Star: "We’ve done a nice job of addressing some needs through free agency," Crennel said from Palm Beach, Fla., site of the NFL’s annual meetings. "We’ve put ourselves in position, with the needs we filled, that when we go into the draft, we can look at the best athlete available and the guy we think can help our team the most.

Importance of sub-package defensive backs only increases with Peyton Manning’s arrival in Denver

14

From the Mothership: "Nearly 50% of the Chiefs’ defensive snaps featured at least five defensive backs last season"

Ryan Clark says "no one" wants to join the Dolphins

10

So why are the Dolphins having a hard time luring free agents to South Beach? Steelers safety Ryan Clark has a theory.

Alex Smith, Dolphins are negotiating

5

Instead of waiting for the Peyton chase to knock a starting quarterback to the curb, the Dolphins have decided to make a pre-emptive strike, actively pursuing Alex Smith, who led the 49ers to a 14-3 record in 2011.

It’s a huge difference because in that one spot in the draft you don’t know who the other team is going to pick. It’s just an earlier opportunity for you to get what you want in the draft.

From the Mothership, Pioli on getting the 11th pick vs. the 12th.

Former Vol 'Jim Bob' Cooter facing burglary charges

19

From 2009: "Former Vol backup quarterback "Jim Bob" Cooter, whose real name is James Robert Cooter, is facing aggravated burglary charges after allegedly getting into bed with a woman after climbing through a window of her Fort Sanders apartment, according to an arrest warrant." Anyone know the details of what happened after this? Sounds like our new Offensive Quality Control Coach may have a screw loose...

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says 34 teams likely if NFL adds a franchise in Los Angeles

14

"Commissioner Roger Goodell says if the NFL puts a team in Los Angeles, it is probable the league would expand to 34 franchises."

Former Patriot front office execs Scott Pioli and Thomas Dimitroff talk about another Pats Super Bowl and the "Patriot Way" (And KC Star)

9

From WEEI in Boston: "Former Patriot front office execs Scott Pioli (now the GM of the Kansas City Chiefs) and Thomas Dimitroff (now the GM of the Atlanta Falcons) stopped by Radio Row to talk about their post-Patriot careers, the Patriot Way, and the Pats being in their 5th Super Bowl under Bill Belichick." KC Star stuff around 5:35 mark.

Canton may soon welcome Will Shields

Great write-up by Bill Williamson

NFL Players Will Be Tweeting During The Pro Bowl Tonight

3

"In a not-so-stunning reversal of policy, Roger Goodell will keep his sticky fingers out of the wallets of NFL Players who are found tweeting during game action tonight. The NFL will actually allow players to tweet from the sidelines during the Pro Bowl and even encourage players to update Facebook. Maybe even Linkedin, depending on their performance."

Rutgers recruits, assistants caught unaware

1

"Greg Schiano was supposed to be at Don Bosco Preparatory School promptly at 8 a.m. Thursday morning to recruit some key prospects. That never happened." Sheesh. As bad as things may be around One Arrowhead Drive lately in terms of coaches and overall program...at least we're not Rutgers right now.

Congrats Ricky Stanzi on your engagement #Hawkeyes #Chiefs #NFL

2

Saw this random tweet. Stanzi engaged? Congrats to him if so.

Does Trent Richardson fit with the Chiefs?

26

Bill Williamson discussing the possibility of the Chiefs drafting Trent Richardson at 11/12. Thoughts?

Chiefs Rookie Production Drops

7

During the 2011 season rookies played in 75 games with 14 starts, a fairly minimal contribution compared to recent seasons. Only OLB Justin Houston became part of the starting lineup. WR Jonathan Baldwin and DE Allen Bailey were the other rookies that saw significant playing time. In 2010, rookies played 113 games with 53 starts and in 2009 it was 94 games and 21 starts.

Source: Tebow played with injured rib, lung

I guess someone stabbed him in the side. I wonder if blood and water came out.

Deadspin: The Kansas City Chiefs Might Have The Worst Workplace In America

11

Kent Babb's article make the national media rounds. It will be interesting to see how this is received and digested by other media outlets. Bill Williamson over at ESPN more or less dismissed it. A place like Deadspin will certainly relish in the deconstruction of sports figure personas...but could also be useful if they deconstruct the local sports narrative the same way they do ESPN's. Fascinating to say the least.

Falcons hire Dirk Koetter as new OC

9

I guess that's another name to cross off of the Chiefs' list of potential OCs.

Jeff Fisher, Brian Schottenheimer talking

4

Interesting things happening on other side of the state. Schottenheimer seems like a strange move for someone "committed to success."

Jeff Fisher to limit job options to Miami, St. Louis

14

Not a huge surprise, but interesting none-the-less. Funny how people throw the "ego" label around constantly. Seems like a guy sitting back and dictating which jobs he will/won't take requires a certain level of "ego."

Pitt coach Graham quits for Arizona State job

5

Seems like a possible Todd Haley destination, no?

Brandon Carr stands in amazing company according to Stats, Inc.

9

Check out these stats from Bill Williamson at ESPN. He was top 5 in the league when it comes to opponents' completion percentage when throwing at him. Pretty incredible, especially when you see that he was thrown at 108 times.

Rapid Reaction: Raiders 23, Chiefs 20 (OT)

+

Key Quote: This game was messy. The two teams combined for 27 penalties (the most in the NFL this season) for 240 yards. The Chiefs lost 10 points on penalties.
