Leaf fan since Dougie first donned the Blue and White. Was a tweener listening to the late games in LA alone in my bedroom on a walkman. It's where the passion was born. Favourite Leaf game was around 2003/04 where they were losing to the Sens by about 5 goals early in the game and my Habs-fan-friend jeered my asking if I thought they were still going to win. I said "yup" and then the Sens all got the flu and the Leafs came back to win. Back then, only the refs caused the Leafs to lose games. It was a Wednesday when the Leafs acquired Owen Nolan. I was a huge fan because of his "point" at the goal during an All-Star game, so I was very excited when he became a Leaf. So excited that the following Friday night, during my weekly pick-up hockey game, I started playing like I was just called up from the minors. One thing no one but the goalie does during a pick up hockey game is block shots. But the Leafs just got Owen Nolan, right? I don't know how the 2 are related but I suffered a broken nose and one of the ugliest scars only a student doctor can provide. Lying in the emergency room still wearing my bloodied Leaf jersey is my proudest (or dumbest) moment as a Leaf fan. I did it for you Owen. On my wedding night, the Leafs beat NYR in the shootout. I know this because I invited most of the groomsman back to watch the game on PVR. My wife is the best. A week later we returned from our honeymoon and I proceeded to watch 3 games on PVR. I'm not sure I'll ever be this dedicated again. I don't know if I'll ever get to share in the joy of winning the Cup, but I hope so. Until then, I'll share in the day-to-day highs and lows with all of you. Go Leafs Go!
