Game Preview #55 - Bulls vs. Philadelphia 76'ers
[Thanks to chibullsfan03 for today's game preview -ed.]
I thought I'd try this "posting" thing instead of my usual sarcastic comments that provide no insight what-so-ever. I figured that since I'm attending this game live (got hooked up with 3rd row tickets!), now would be my shot at BAB game preview glory. I'll be sporting a Rose Jersey, with the bobblehead give-a-way, and maybe I'll chuck popcorn at Funk's head throughout the game.
In the previous meeting of these two ballclubs, the Bulls lost by a score of 103-106 in overtime. Despite Rose going for 30 and 9, and Deng having a good night with 17 points and 11 rebounds, the Bulls fell short due to a hobbled Noah, along with Iggy and Brand having a tremendous game.
More after the Jump.

Pippen writes article on bulls.com
Interesting to see Scottie have an article on bulls.com
Pippen talks about last nights game. Thinks the Bulls can be a top 4 seed in the east. Gives out some keys for success this year
Bulls waive Linton Johnson and DeMarcus Nelson
There's our 13-man roster
Gordon’s agent, Raymond Brothers, told Chicago management on Wednesday that he had an offer from the Pistons. Only, Brothers wouldn’t tell the Bulls how much Detroit was willing to pay.
From Yahoo! Sports
Sam Smith compares our draft picks to Pippen and Grant
At least he doesn't seriously compare them, he knows hes dreaming. The interesting part is when Sam says he's talked to Horace and said Taj is welcome to work with him when he wants to.

Cavs' Brown named coach of the year
[From the FanShots. Vinny received a 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place vote. For coach of the year. The best coach...of the year. -ed.]
There's always next year, Vinny.

We all knew MJ would make it. No luck for Johnny Kerr, though.
Scoop Jackson on the Bulls (via ESPN 1000)
Well it's Friday and I'm stuck at work, and naturally, I'm "working" by listening to a few podcasts. Waddle & Silvy had Scoop Jackson on Thursday to discuss the Bulls and I want to share what I thought was interesting with the interview. It was about Pax possibly having an idea on bringing in Avery as coach. It's all speculation by Scoop, but I'm bored at work and felt like sharing this.
Here is the podcast link for any who want to listen: the Jackson interview starts at 37:20 and goes until 47:10
Injured Hinrich expects to play tonight vs. Heat
"Kirk Hinrich didn't practice Sunday because of a bruised right quadriceps but said he would play tonight...he will get a lot of minutes guarding NBA scoring leader Dwyane Wade"
Meh.
"The mustard seed, is about that big, you can barely see it, that's about how big the heart is on this basketball team"
One of my favorite Norm rants, and after watching tonight's game, it still applies.
"You should have seen his expression when he dunked," laughed Rose. "He gave us this goofy look on the bench like he can still jump." - Sam Smith blog
"It's been awhile, I was struggling the whole night, my shots were all long. Just to get that was a relief. I was just relieving the pressure. I see how they do it, but Garnett lets it out after every basket. I can't do that."
Rose, talking about his emotions last night in the 4th and OT.
Thorpe Chat Wrap 1/14/09
Took anything related to da Bulls from his chat and put them in here.
Matt (College Park): If the Bulls don't need a lottery pick, what should they do?
David Thorpe: Share the ball more. Pass and cut more. Mix in some motion offense. Set a rotation and trust it.[-ed <----- Read that Vinny]
Chuck (Des Moines, IA): Who would be your Bulls starting 5? Hughes needs to go, right?
David Thorpe: Rose, Kirk, Deng, Thomas, Noah. BG, Thabo, Noc off bench, + whomever they get for Drew.
James (Berlin): Hi David- If you were the Jazz, would you trade Boozer for Deng and Sefolosha?
David Thorpe: In a heartbeat.
John Paxson (Chicago, IL): Why would you reward Noah with a starting position. He has shown a lack of hustle and has been a problem in the locker room. If anything, he needs to go.
David Thorpe: Top 3 in the league in offensive rebound rate. Races the floor. That's hustle.
Doug (Memphis): If you're the bulls, would you trade just about anyone except rose at this point? (considering you get a fair return)
David Thorpe: Yes.
Ethan (Philly): Thorpe, what one trade would you most like to see happen?
David Thorpe: Something in Chicago that let's Noah or Thomas start over.
Patty (LA): Thorponator: Why would any team trade a player like Prince + a pick for Boozer, when he can walk away after this season, let alone the fact that he just had surgery? No way could the Jazz get back that type of return in a deal for him. I just don't see it, brother.
David Thorpe: Perhaps. But a team like Detroit or Chicago could keep him, Bird rights and all.
Steve (Israel): What about Bosh. Where will his free agency take him?
David Thorpe: Just my own guess-Knicks, Spurs, Bulls.

Ask Sam 1.09.08
Interesting big on Asik: "He did have a knee injury and wasn't able to play. But he has been around the Berto Center of late working with the team's strength coaches. The Bulls tell me they really like him and think he'll be a surprise and impressive. We can only hope."
Bulls stuff from David Thorpe Chat (12/31)
--Kyle (chicago): Thorpe, big fan speaking. I get warm and fuzzy when your chats start. Question: is the ROY judged the same as MVP, where the rookie on the better team gets the nod? I've read rose is looking like the top candidate since he could carry the bulls into the playoffs but mayo has been the best rookie, so is team success a factor?
David Thorpe: There's no criteria to follow, to my knowledge. Individuals will set their own agenda. Either would be highly qualified to wear that crown.
--matt (chicago): Is there any way the Bulls can get rid of Larry Hughes. Every time he shoots a contested jumper I die a little inside. Thanks, Happy New Year!
David Thorpe: You are not alone. And based on what he's been doing this year, your funeral may be coming soon.
--Dunleavy the GM : Mr Thorpe, do you think I should pull the trigger on a Kaman deal to the Warriors for Jackson and a player? will this make Baron happy and want to stay?
David Thorpe: Yes I do. I'd be on the phone with the Bulls daily.
--Brad (Chicago, IL): Kaman to the Bulls for whom?
David Thorpe: Noah, Thabo, Gooden?
Not a whole lot, but a bit interesting on the Kaman part.
Forte gets no love from the AP for Offensive Rookie
Ryan was a landslide winner in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league. He collected 44 votes, far in front of Titans running back Chris Johnson with three. Broncos tackle Ryan Clady had two and Bears running back Matt Forte got one.
Ben Gordon to Derrick Rose Alley-oop
from the Philly game
ESPN Mag: "Rose Colored Glasses"
Rose talks about his hometown, college, transition into the nba, and his tat's.
(His nick-name is officially spelled "Poodini", since that is what his tattoo says.)
Rose Learning from Hunter
Rose calls all his teammates big brothers. But with Kirk Hinrich likely out until February after thumb surgery, having another veteran guard to learn tricks of the trade from can be invaluable.
Rose said Hunter already has helped him defensively, easily the area the rookie has the most room for improvement.
