Chris Hatcher is a graduate of Emory & Henry College with a B.A. in Mass Communications. A native of Abingdon, VA, Chris has a wealth of knowledge and experience in both the fields of sports and communications and has worked for Sirius XM Radio, SB Nation, The Norfolk Tides, The Bristol Herald Courier, WCYB-TV 5, and WABN.

On campus, Chris worked for every media organization at E&H, holding the Sports Editor position for the campus newspaper The Whitetopper for 3 years, the E&H yearbook, the Sphinx, and the communications department's news website EHCWired for 2 years; serving as the Sports Anchor for a year and for the last 2 years as a Co-Anchor of the campus television station EHC-TV, a blogger for E&H's PR Department's sports website, and the co-host of the show Sportographic Material this year and a play-by-play and color commentator for E&H football and men's and women's basketball for the last 4 years on WEHC 90.7. He is an aspiring sports commentator in basketball, football, soccer, or baseball.

Alston Smith, the redshirt-freshman son of former Virginia Tech great and NFL Hall-of-Famer Bruce Smith, is moving from defensive tackle to offensive guard to provide depth at the position which should allow them to redshirt current freshman guard Parker Osterloh and perhaps even freshman tackle Wyatt Teller, another offensive lineman who made the transfer over from defensive tackle during fall camp. While it is not clear how much Smith will play, having another scholarship body on the line is a must after the losses the Hokies have suffered since the beginning of camp.
