Behind the Steel Curtain NFL misses the point about concussions

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/nfl/11/09/steelers.ap/index.html

With little attention at the time (save for Redman's), 3 Steeler players incurred concussions in last night's win. Guess without a villain to pin a BS fine nothing wrong really happened.  In the case of Moore and Allen, I didn't see either play, and it could have just as easily been 'friendly fire' as a hit by an opponent.

It perfectly demonstrates the NFL hypocricy on this issues.  Concussions happen all the time, not just from illegal hits, but from squeeky clean plays too.  Last night's game was chippy but mostly played clean between the whistles and the sidelines.  If the league wanted to take constructive steps to protect players from head injuries rather than villainizing players with no malicious intent, they'd look at practical measures like mandating improved helmet technology (helmets were originally hardened to prevent skull fractures, not mitigate against concussions) or improved dental equipment like the Maher Mouth Gaurd to better stabilize the jaw, not to mention long term health care.

We saw the Cribbs and Massquoi hits ad nauseum but barely a whiff of the 3 concussions incurred by Steelers.   I hope Redman, Moore and Allen recover well and are back in action as soon as possible.  I seriously doubt any of them will complain about the degree of impact in which they were concussed.

Bucs Dugout Paul Maholm tops The least-hyped players in baseball"

Paul Maholm tops "The least-hyped players in baseball" since 2008 in CNNSI compiled by Tim Marchman

I don't read cnnsi for baseball coverage very often, but I was surprised to see Marchman cite WAR in his evaluation. Not surprisingly, many of the players in the top 10 play for bottom feeder teams.  But c'mon -- everyone really wants to know the top overhyped, right?
