AP 2013 Mock Draft Thread (toosoon/2012-400 comments)
Really? Are you really so needy that you can't go a couple days without looking toward the next NFL draft? For goodness sake! It's spring outside. Go out and enjoy it! Get away from thinking about possible draft prospects. Go spend some time with your family, go to a ballgame, perhaps smoke a cigar and drink a nice scotch, listen to some new artist, go talk politics with Ups, or call TexasChief and idiot. There are a million OTHER things you could be doing than thinking about a draft a whole year away. ESPECIALLY WHEN WE JUST HAD ONE!!!!!RAWKC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Yes, I am justified in talking in ALL CAPS as long as I follow it with exclamation points and a RAWKC growl)

Things that should happen before the 2013 mock draft season starts…
The draft is today. I am not sure what I am more excited about; the number 11 pick or the brief end to mock draft season. It’s inevitable that the “experts” will put out their 2013 mock drafts as soon as this draft is complete, but I hope AP can show at least some restraint. The regulars and the lurkers will probably agree that after a million mock draft posts, we need to take a break and talk about other things. So here are some things that should happen before another mock draft is posted on AP.

Poll against AP Draft Tyranny!!!
Fantasy Baseball League
For the past couple years I have been in a 12 team mixed fantasy baseball league on yahoo. Many of them are KC natives. $40 buy in (possibly to increase this year). Pay outs to top three in regular season and playoffs. Daily lineup updates. We are a fairly active league. Due to the economy, we lost 2 players and are trying to fill the open spots. Would like to open it up to AP regulars that I can trust to be active owners. Some league stipulations: No streaming pitchers and team names must the name of a beer. Leave a comment or question on this post and I will get in contact with you about the league if you are interested.
Joel-stradamus
Not sure if any of you saw this before the game...but Joel was right on.
1. Cassel threw 30 times (not 35) but close.
2. McFadden was under 100 yards. Injuries count.
3. Won the turnover battle. Check.
4. All the QBs played at some point.
5. Chiefs win.
Time for Joel to go buy a lotto ticket.
Mike Vrabel hangs up NFL cleats for gig at his old Ohio home
I think LadyChief also had an article that mentioned this as a side note. Here is a complete article.
NFL Moms' High-Scoring Recipes
According to Kansas City Chiefs tackle Branden Albert, a Super Bowl menu isn't complete unless pepperoni pizza and Buffalo wings are in the house. "Without question [wings] make the perfect Super Bowl meal," says Albert. Even more perfect, Albert takes matters into his own hands with his personal recipe for spicy hot wings. His secret? Slow cooking. Tackle Albert's simple recipe for these tender hot wings and you will definitely score points with your guests.
Ok...so I am bored at work and its lunchtime.
Chiefs ARE a top tier NFL team, lets hope we can stay there
No the season didnt end like many of us hoped. I never even thought we would make the playoffs, much less lose in the first round. The Ravens are a battle hardened team, we are not...yet. But our success this year will give us a more challenging schedule that will force us to become battle hardened over the course of the next season. Mourn the loss Chief's fans, but rejoice in the fact that next year our team will become battle hardened and hopefully secure a permanent place as a top tier caliber team for many years to come.
Please join me while we all point and laugh at the Broncos for this trade
Where is Brady Quinn(notes) these days? You’ll find him scraping barnacles off the bottom of the depth chart, languishing behind Tim Tebow(notes). Yes, that’s the guy whom McDaniels traded Hillis for – he of the career 66.8 quarterback rating and 52 percent completion rate. And it wasn’t even a straight up player-for-player deal. Denver kicked in a sixth-round pick in 2011 and a conditional pick in 2012 to sweeten the pot. Nothing like a couple of bamboo shoots under the fingernails on draft day to remind fans of a team’s brain-searing roster machinations.
Small World
I attended a cigar event last night for the Ashton VSG series at my local smoke shop. I ended up chatting with a guy who went to High School with Neil Smith. He was an underclassmen when Neil graduated but had a couple classes with his sister. He couldnt stop talking about how, even then, Neil was one of those upperclassmen that everyone in the school looked up to. He spoke about how generous, giving, and classy Neil was as a Senior. It turns out that Neil owns a house about a mile away from my apartment. His mother occupies it year round but apparently Neil is around a couple times of the year and throws some pretty good parties when he is in town. Thought that I would share this experience with you, AP.
Gameday Cigar: Week 2
I noticed that in the offseason, both Fanposts and Chiefs news was so rare that many of us were starving just waiting for the next little nugget to get us through our day. This is the complete opposite during the season. There are so many discussions going on around AP right now and news is more plentiful than criminals at a political convention. It’s a miracle that none of us has gone insane from the overload! So my gift to you AP is a contribution to your individual sanity in the form of a distraction from Chiefs-related controversies. I give you your Week 2 Gameday Cigar: The Oliva Cain Maduro Robusto.

Gameday Cigar: Week 1
What is a post about Cigars doing on a Chief’s blog you might ask? Well, my attempts so far to find my niche on AP have failed miserably. My football expertise is limited to OL and DL play. I have attempted my own articles on those topics, but they are rarely met with a lot of favor and they NEVER stand up to the quality that Kalo and Bews deliver on a regular basis. So I have relegated myself to being a smart-ass commenter. I feel like Peter Gibbons (Office Space), constantly trying to find my place in this world. If you think about it, we have our Bill Lumberghs (Joel and Chris), our Bob’s (Kalo and Bews), our Tom Smykowski (H2E), and even our very own Milton(s) (Kray, Ups, and RNGB). Where do I fit in? The only other topic that I am as passionate about as our beloved Chiefs is cigars. My gameday experience is never complete without a ritual cigar and that is what I decided to share with AP, my weekly gameday cigar.

Oklahoma Joe's Pellet BBQ
"The Deck Grill came to the attention of barbecue champion, Joe Davidson, founder of Oklahoma Joe’s, manufacturer of world-class BBQ grills and smokers, and of Oklahoma Joe’s restaurants in Kansas City and Stillwater, and winner of more than 300 competitions. He set a contest record at the 2009 Memphis in May Championship winning five categories, Wings, Beans, Poultry, Vinegar BBQ, and Ribs.....Davidson plans to use the Deck Grill at the granddaddy of all barbecue competitions, The 31st Annual American Royal Barbecue in Kansas City, September 30th to October 3rd."
Anybody here ever tried these? Are they really as easy as they say? How difficult is it to get fuel?
Whitlock Strikes Again
"What's the difference between Andy Reid and Marty Schottenheimer? A hundred pounds, Ernest Byner's fumble and different coaching specialties. Late in Schottenheimer's Kansas City tenure he had a choice between Rich Gannon and Elvis Grbac. Schottenheimer chose Grbac. Elvis quit football at age 31. Between the ages of 34-38, Gannon earned four Pro Bowl berths, one league MVP and led the Raiders to the Super Bowl."
I have found that since Jason left The Star, I agree with him more and more. This is an article about Vick and the Eagles, but the line about Reid vs. Marty gets a laugh.
How American Football Became the World's Greatest Game
This article is a pretty good read on the origins of the game and of the concept of a "First Down." The original first down only required 5 yards in 3 downs!! Has anyone ever read this "Anatomy of a Game" book? It looks like something worth picking up.
The Official NFL Sleeper Pick
WORTH CONSIDERING, BUT NOT HAPPENING
Kansas City Chiefs: The additions of offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, Thomas Jones and rookie Dexter McCluster make the 2010 Chiefs offense a lot more exciting than the 2009 version. While Eric Berry should make an immediate impact on the defense, the unit’s still not ready to compete with the NFL’s big boys. I’m also still not sold on Todd Haley as an NFL head coach.
YOUR OFFICIAL 2010 SLEEPER PICK
Oakland Raiders
Read the reasons he gives for the Raiders being the sleeper pick. I think that those are almost identical reasons (different players of course) that KC COULD be a sleep pick. However, I feel that his assessment on the Chiefs was accurate.
An idea for college football.
Hey AP. I have been a member for almost a year now. I have tried to find a way to contribute stuff to the FanPosts, but my thoughts usually come out too wordy, boring, or are on a topic that is already been hashed to death. So, I have relegated myself to fanshots and smart-ass comments, only occasionally rehashing ideas that have already been discussed. I had an idea today for the college football season, and wanted to see what the rest of AP thought. I would like to watch/scout a college football game and then present the results to AP in the following format: 1) a brief (very brief) description of the game 2) A list of (no more than) 10 players that might have a future in the NFL (Jr. and Sr) and finally 3) no more than 4 of those players that might benefit the Chiefs and how/where they would fit on our team. I dont have any favorite college FB team, so which game I watch/evaluate will be fairly random...probably the most competitive game that is on tv. Living in NOLA, it will probably be SEC biased. My question to AP: Is this something that would contribute to the content that you (the members) would be interested to read? Do you have any suggestions on better ways to present it? Anything else to add? Thanks for your opinions.
Dexter is Key to Offense's Future
The secret is out. Lets hope no one really pays any attention until after the SD game.
Chiefs Prayer on Opening Day of Training Camp
Our Father, who art in heaven, Lamar Hunt be thy name Chiefs Kingdom will come Pioli’s will be done, in earth as it is in Arrowhead Give us this day, our daily Arrowheadlines, And forgive us our kicker, as we shall never forgive he who shall not be named. And lead us always to the Super Bowl but deliver us from Denver For Chiefs is the Kingdom, AP is the power, and the fans the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. --Thought this would be appropriate for today. Go Chiefs!!
"Bama Boy" Is "Gettin’ His Drank On" – And It Explains Plenty
Except we ain’t crazy about a loser. You gotta at least do your part. And once Jamarcus went pro, he wasn’t so cool anymore. As a pro quarterback, the guy sucked. No, lemme rephrase that. He SUCKED. The suckiest suck who ever sucked. Jamarcus sucked so bad he made Lane Kiffin look like he knew what he was talking about, which is all but impossible. We’re talking Michael Steele level of suckage here. Rick Astley suckage. I’d even go so far as to say Jamarcus was the Showgirls of NFL quarterbacks.
(I never was much for kicking them when they are down...except he WAS a RAIDER!)
Ranking every NFL franchise from 1 to 32
Franchise Ranks including ownership, stadium, coaching staff, etc.
"Scott Pioli is a phenomenal executive. Carl Peterson and Herman Edwards ran the Chiefs straight into the ground, and Pioli has already made great progress in this major rebuilding job. Todd Haley is a solid first-time head coach with a new all-star staff featuring Charlie Weis (pictured) and Romeo Crennel. I have no idea what the Chiefs really have at quarterback."
I have to agree with that entire little blurb. I couldn't get the video to work to see his complete breakdown. IMO the jury is still out on Cassel. I think this year he has the tools around him for the fans and coaches to see if he really has "it."
Chiefs Should Sign Russell
Idiot.
What?? Do I really need to say more?!
Draft Day Open Thread
I am stoked for tonights draft and I know many of you share my enthusiasm. After all the talk of Berry vs. McClain, trades, taking an OT or not, and all the mock drafts I am just ready to get this thing over with. Part of me is just exhausted from it all but the majority of me feels like I did back when I was 6 on a Christmas morning. So lets just get this out there and start it up right rather than wait for an "official" thread to come up this evening. I hope the moderators will put up an official one once this one runs its course.

Draft Day Open Thread
When will the draft day open thread come up? Can we start it at 8am CT and just let it go all day, only changing it when it gets too cumbersome to load? Its draft day! Its an ALL DAY event, so don't make us wait until 5pm to put up the open thread! Please Thormans, hear my prayer!
3D TV + Alcohol could hurt you!!
Or just be "hazardous to your health." Will this keep you from watching the Chiefs in 3D once the technology is more widely available??
I can't wait to watch 3D football, but I am not sure I would be willing to give up my beer to do so.
Oakland Raiders 1st Round Target
Thats right. Al Davis will probably trade every pick in the draft ala Mike Ditka in order to move up and get Joseph "Boo" Wheatly after he ran a 3.9 s 40 at his Pro Day.
Go get 'em Al. All of us in Cheifsnation expect nothing less from your fine organization.
Schrager Mock 4.0
Chiefs pick Bulaga at #5 and Berry falls to the Raiders at #8.
More proof that Schrager is an idiot.
Linemen Roulette: Moving Linemen in the NFL
It seems as though the content of the AP community has shifted from the Berry Bromantics to Linemen Roulette. While the debate by the Berry Bromantics has essentially become "settled science," a debate rages on whether or not you can effectively move lineman across the line without a decrease in performance.
I will reiterate this again, this is not Madden. Lineman are not interchangeable pegs that can be placed at any position on the line at any time and expected to perform at peak levels throughout the year.
As Beswaf points out HERE, shuffling linemen in the NFL does occur, and can occur on a fairly regular basis. However, injuries, performance, and value issues will sometimes demand a shuffle within the offensive line when one may not be desired. Shifting from the left side to the right side or from tackle to guard to center IS POSSIBLE, but it is not often easy. There are individuals who can play almost any position on the line (Wade Smith), however, how often are these individuals (utility linemen) a dominant force at any one position? Most of these utility linemen are mediocre stopgaps; a glorified career backup or young draft project needing seasoning, ready to jump into any position they may be called on to handle.
Some of the points that I wish to edu-ma-cate the AP community on are:
1) What makes the switch from the left side to the right side so difficult,
2) What are the difficulties associated with moving from tackle to guard to center, and
3) IF the Chiefs are forced to draft a LT at #5, what kind of linemen roulette will maximize the amount of talent on the OL while minimizing a loss of productivity by a position switch?

The Harsh Truth About Tebow's NFL Hopes
"Tebow and his legions should take heart. As it pertains to the class of 2010, he’ll be the first fullback to throw for a touchdown.--Kriegel"
Sorry Craig.
2011 Draft
With the CBA still up in the air, does anyone know what will happen if draft picks are traded for a pick in the 2011 draft and we (god forbid) dont have a draft (or season) next year?? Are the traded picks just moved to the next draft or are the trading teams just screwed?? Many comments suggest trading down from the 5th pick, but for what? I would hope its a swap of 1st rounds plus a bunch of picks later in this draft rather than risk a pick in a draft next year.
