Arrowhead Pride Ideal Draft Day...In My Opinion

Hey I'm still working a 2AM and I had to get my mind off things so I did a mock. Tell me if you guys think this is realistic.

Trade: Waters to Buffalo for their 3rd and 7th round pick.

1. Curry (ILB, Wake) - nothing that we don't already know

3. Sidbury Jr. (OLB, Richmond) - Apparently he drew a huge crowd at his pro day, although I don't think the Chiefs were in attendence. This kid is big at 265 and he has the speed and linebacking skills to possibly be one hell of 3-4 rush linebaker.

3. Caldwell (C, Alabama) - We are going to need a good center to go up against the 3-4s of Denver and San Diego. The kid is smart, stout and can play all three interior line positions. He drops this far because of the depth of the center class.

4. Jean-Francois (DE, LSU) - I think this kid could potentially be that 3-4 end we desperately need on the roster. I was pissed that Pioli couldn't dish out at least one big contract outside of Cassel with a guy like Canty. (How many DEs do the Giants need! I bet they will win the superbowl this season)

5. Wallace (WR, Ole Miss) - It looks like we might be interested in this kid. Haley will probably want an inside receiver to replace Engram in the future and to be honest I couldn't find out if Wallace fits that bill. But, the kid is fast and he is a really good return threat.

6. L Hill (NT, Stillman) - I'm pretty sure this kid is on the Chiefs radar as well. This pick might be wishful thinking. I've seen him as high as 3 and as low as the middle of the 6th. He is a prototype 3-4 nose tackle and might be more high profile if he didn't play for Stillman, don't ask me where it is because I have no idea.

7. Allen (RG, W Missouri) - This is would be a great sleeper pick and he could eventually replace Goff someday. He is a lifelong Chiefs fan apperently and he has or had a private workout with the Chiefs. I read somewhere that he reminds people of Larry Allen the future hall of famer. I don't know where they get that, but hell lets draft him.

7. D Hill (TE, Ball St) - Since Merritt got cut for smoking weed we need another tight end on the roster. I like Hill because he might offer something as a H-back. He is one of those smaller, quicker tight ends like Watson in New England.

7. Pizotti (QB, Harvard) - Ivy League player of the year. He has a good build, he's like 6'6" 230 lbs. I know how Pioli likes those big QBs. You can't get enough QBs on your roster.

Arrowhead Pride Some Fantasy to get Our Spirits Up

I have been a little surprised we have not made a big splash in free agency besides the Cassel trade. It has been depressing me so I came up with a rosey scenario.  We can still fill all of our holes before opening day. I know, I know, its unrealistic. But, frankley I don't care. Arrowhead Pride A Plan

I was stranded at home today because I have no car until tomorrow. I was extremely board and started running through stupid scenarios with the Chiefs. I thought I would share it with you guys. If your not interested in reading this whole freaking thing thats cool, but could you look at my 1st round pick and tell me what you think? It's different to say the least.

Arrowhead Pride Offseason Goal: Buy Some Linebackers

I don't think I have to tell all of you that the main reason we have two wins is due to the state of our front seven. I've been thinking a lot about this lately because my biggest fear is that our best options will dry up. Meaning, the free agents that we want are going to be resigned or on draft day all of our targeted players will be taken before we can get to them. However, I think our great need at Will and Mike linebackers can be solved through free agency. We can still draft some, but the only first year impact players would be the top tier guys who are not going to make it out of the first round being: Maualuga, Laurinautis, Curry, Cushing and Spikes. I would love to have these guys, but realisticly the only one worth drafting in the top five would be Maualuga. And even that might be too high for a mike linebacker. I feel that we should build our linebackers through free agency for this reason and the fact that veterns are more warranted right now. We could then use our first on a DE like Orakpo because the only other option would be Suggs from Baltimore. I like Suggs, but they run an entirely different operation in Baltimore and I don't know if would fit what we need. (also I've heard that he can be a problem in the locker room) I think we should go after these guys in free agency:

1. Karlos Dansby(WLB) - A likely candidate that will not be signed to an extension. The Cardinals are waist deep in cap trouble. Dansby was franchised prior to last season, which got him 8M this year. I personally don't think the Cards can afford to keep him on. He's going to be extremely expensive, probably in the 6 year 36-40 million range. However, he would bring the leadership we are lacking on defense. So far this year he has 94 tackles, 2 INT, 3 sacks and a FF. He brings the speed that we need for both zone coverage and the ability to rush the passer. Our weakside would be filled instantly and D Williams could back him up giving us depth.

2. Jonathan Vilma(MLB) - The Saints are not going to sign Vilma to an extension. If they do they have to give up their third round picks for the NYJ's 4th. They have already given up a 2nd for Shockey. This was reported by Adam Shaffer of the NFL Network. Vilma was a machine when he came out of college. He was drafted by coach Edwards in the 1st round in 2004. He was traded to New Orleans because he had injury concerns in 2007 and did not adapt well to the 3-4 defense Mangeni implemented. With our cap space we should be able to afford him and Dansby and he might want to be reunited with Edwards. This year he has 111 tackles, 1 INT, 2 FF and a sack. He would also bring the vetern presence to the position that we need to be able to call out audiables and what not. I am also for drafting Holzclaw in the 4th round for a fail safe if Vilma's injury bug pops up again.

3. Sam Williams(OLB) - A reserve for the Oakland Raiders. He has only started 2 games this year, but he recorded an interception in one game. He would come reletively cheap and would give us a viable back-up to DJ at the strongside position. I also think we might keep Boiman around putting seven linebackers on the roster for next year. If we can get Holzclaw in round 4 (which I think is a real possibility), then our depth would be comforting come next year.
By the way all of these guys are still farily young with Karlos at 27, Vilma at 26 and Williams at 28. If you read this before the game today study the linebackers. Especially, their ability to cover Antonio Gates. Also, see if DJ is playing well at the Mike. I think he is better suited to play on the outside, but who knows.

Arrowhead Pride I'm Sending Ray Farmer a Bottle of Champagne

Our pro scouting department deserves major props for their pickups in the last two years.  I'm sold on Thigpen. This guy at least gives us some hope that he could be that diamond in the rough. I bet you that Minnesota is pulling their hair for letting him go. Bradley to me seems like a legit #2 WR on this team.  He is fast, athletic and has a 100% completion percentage. I also like this RFA kid we picked up from the Giants practice squad.  He had the second most tackles for a loss at Alabama, only behind the late great Derrick Thomas. We will see if he amounts to anything.

Arrowhead Pride I Just Solved Our Problem

I had a dream last night that we drafted Sam Bradford in the first round last night. I think this could mean a foreshadow into the future or that I'm focusing too much attention on the Chiefs, LOL. I've been bored so I put one of those crazy, unrealistic team building plans on paper. I thought I'd share it with you guys, but spare me the this will never happen lecture. I already know, but a guy can dream can't he?

Arrowhead Pride Future QB Watch

This weekend Sam Bradford of Oklahoma will be going against his greatest challenge to date this season when he takes on the fifth ranked Texas Longhorns. This kid has been nothing short of spectacular since he has played for the Sooners. (If your an MU fan like me you would know) In this season alone he has completed over 70% of his passes with a TD to INT ratio of 18:3. (most important stats in my opinion) The best thing about Bradford is that he is a true pocket passer. (none of that Tebow crap) He doesn't even have any rushing yards this year, but is mobile enough to avoid pressure. He has great measurables in that he is 6'4" and 218 LBS. The only knock on this kid is that he doesn't have great arm strength and his release could be quicker. I highly suggest you watch this game and tell me what you think of him. Also, there is a problem that would make this hype seemingly worthless and that is the fact that he is a red-shirt sophomore. He is eligible for the NFL draft, but there is a good chance he could stay with Oklahoma for another year or possible two. I think we need to get a Sam Bradford declare petition going on this site. I know this might be lame, but what if we could somehow influence this kid to come early out by getting in contact with an agent who could advise him to declare this year due to the complications of the CBA expiring after the 2009 season, abolishing the rookie salary pool. I don't know, but I think this kid is our future and it could be dictated whether he declares after this season or not.

Arrowhead Pride Something that Scares Me

The Defensive Lines play has been abysmal this season. This scares me because although a lot of area of our team have been ignored, that has not been the case with the defensive line. It seems like they are getting man handled out there. What the hell is going on? Granted 3 of our 4 starters are starting for the first time and Hali has switched sides, but you would think that they would be getting more push on the line of scrimmage. I don't even care about the pass rush, I care about stopping the run. What does a pass rush matter if we can't stop the ground game. Do you guys think this is the result of immaturity or lack of talent? Meaning, do we have potential talent or are we doomed? Historically, most defensive lineman suck their first year starting. Look at Mario Williams.

Arrowhead Pride Take a Deep Breath

Lets all calm down before we charge Arrowhead with pitchforks and torches. We all knew this was going to happen this year. Granted I thought we would win against teams like Oakland and Atlanta, but we knew a losing season was coming. However, Croyle and Huard going down pretty much killed any chance of an effective offense. We need to look at this team as a plant. Maybe it will grow into something that won't make us puke every week. I remind you that we are the youngest team in the NFL. Ten of our starters are starting for the first time. (5 rookies, 3 second years, and 2 vets) When Tennessee did the same thing we did a couple years ago they started the season 0-5. They finished the season 8-8 and actually would of made the playoffs had they won their last game. I think we have a great core of young players and just need a good young quarterback and a few offensive lineman in free agency.

Arrowhead Pride I Need Help!

I'm moving places this summer in Dallas and I can't move my satellite dish to my new residence because my apartment doesn't face south. Is there any Chiefs fans in Dallas out there with satellite.  I would gladly help pay for the NFL sunday ticket and bring beer every sunday. Otherwise I'm going to have to go to a sports bar, which will have the Cowboys game on 10 monitors with maybe a glimmer of hope that the Chiefs game will be on a small TV in the corner of the bar. I need my chiefs like an addict needs drugs. You can e-mail me if you are interested: btmatthe@smu.edu

Arrowhead Pride No Salary Cap for 2010?

Link:

NEW YORK (AP) - NFL owners could opt out of their agreement with the players union next week, leaving open the possibility of a 2010 season without a salary cap.

The labor agreement is on the agenda for the league meetings in Atlanta on Tuesday.

"If they don't do it next week then it will be soon after that," Gene Upshaw, the executive director of the NFL Players Association, said Friday. "They want to opt out and we don't."

In the agreement signed in March of 2006, both sides were given the right to get out of the deal by Nov. 8, 2008. League officials noted that doesn't mean that a decision could not be made earlier.

That contract was due to expire at the end of the 2013 season. If the owners nullify it, a move that has seemed inevitable for a while, it would end after the 2011 season with 2010 being uncapped.

The end of the agreement does not necessarily mean that there will be a work stoppage, although Upshaw has predicted that the owners could lock out the players in 2011. But the early opt-out also could lead to earlier talks on a new deal, which the owners feel has leaned too far toward the players - Upshaw already has had several preliminary meetings, including one recently with Jerry Richardson of Carolina and Pat Bowlen of Denver, two of the owners expected to be involved in the negotiations.

And despite predictions that owners with more cash would corner the market on star players in an uncapped year, there are safeguards against that, notably a provision in the contract, first signed in 1993, that extends the period needed from free agency from four years to six if that happens.

The early termination of the labor contract has been expected for at least the last six months.

Several owners have complained that the current deal, which gives 60 percent of the revenues to the players, has been too one-sided. It was done at the last moment and was the last major act of former commissioner Paul Tagliabue, who managed to put together a coalition of high-revenue, middle-revenue and low-revenue teams to ratify the contract.

Only two low revenue teams, Cincinnati and Buffalo, voted against it.

Since then, however, high-revenue owners, such as New England's Robert Kraft, have also supported negotiating for a new deal. And if a vote is taken, 24 of the 32 teams would have to vote to extend it, something that is highly unlikely to happen.

One problem, league officials note, are rising and unpredictable bond rates, which leave teams like Dallas and the New York Giants and Jets, who are building new stadiums, with rising costs and rising debt on their bonds. The Cowboys' Stadium is scheduled to open next season and host the 2011 Super Bowl and the new facility for the New York teams is scheduled to open in 2010

Arrowhead Pride Koren Robinson(WR) in KC?

There are reports that Kansas City is interested in Koren Robinson who was recently cut by the Green Bay Packers today.  Robinson was the 9th overall pick in the 2001 draft.  His numbers have dropped considerably since his 2002 season when he had 78 receptions for 1240 yards.  Last year he had 21 rec for 241 yards in 9 games.

What do you guys think?  Should we aggressively go after him?  The Raiders are also interested as well according to reports.

Arrowhead Pride More Sacks Without Allen?

I believe the chiefs defense can yeild more sacks in 2008 without Jared Allen.  Hear me out.  Hali increases his production by 50% giving him a total of 12 sacks. (He is moving to the right side, which is more condusive to pass rush because there is usually no tightend) Now we have a 3.5 sack deficit on the right plus 8 on the left since Boone will take over.  I'm giving Boone 1 sack (that may be too generous) Now out of the 10.5 sack deficit left I believe Dorsey can get 6 of those.  This may be unrealistic, but Sapp got to the quarterback early in his career.  Flowers can get 2, I assume we are going to blitz and utilize him.  My last assumption is that DJ will go from 4 to 6 because of Dorsey's disruption on the line.  The rest of the team can step it up to put us over the mark. What do you guys think? Unrealistic?
