Cubs Rank 4th in MLB's Franchise Value--Forbes.com
Interesting analysis on the value of the Cubs. Revenue and expenses keep rising, but wins-to-player cost ratio is at its lowest in 10 years.
Also note the problems that the Dodgers (#3) and Mets (#5) are in. Very telling stuff about what may happen in the future and how MLB has denied loans.
Happy Birthday Al!
I hope you have a great day.
The link goes to the traditional Mexican birthday song, which today goes out to Al Yellon.

Twenty Reasons Why Baseball is Better Than Football
A great article published in SBN's "Twinkie Town" Fan Site. I couldn't had written it better myself. Great read.

Cubs Hire "Director of Fan Experiences"
The article mentions this lady will interact with fans on forums. Let's hope she brings something to the conversation.

Semi-OT: Chicago Tribune Memo as New Sports Section Launches
Interesting leaked memo from the Tribune Tower regarding their rebranded sports section. Could dissect it for hours, but I'm sure you'll reach the same conjectures I do. Please note the fifth graph.
Rosenbloom five times a week... Enjoy your paper, Trib subscribers!
Lou Piniella Lauded
I hope you all still can appreciate the humor from The Onion, after a tough day.
Semi-OT: Jay Mariotti headed to the Chicago Tribune
This was reported on Deadspin.com, but I have it on good personal sources as well, that he'll begin his tenure there in the next few weeks.
Boy oh boy, am I glad I cancelled my subscription to that ghastly publication this week.
Now, that's a talent. Maybe he can be brought to Chicago to help the Fukuchopper and the other guys.
Deadspin.com--Why your stadium sucks: Wrigley Field
Don't shoot the messenger. I couldn't disagree more with this article. Wrigley is my vision of heaven.
Please substitute "woman" and "baby" for "Cubs" or "baseball in general." That's how I feel.
OT: Isn't he married?
If he's not, good for Jimmy Baseball. If he is, I'll let the women here unload.
Steve Stone on Crain's Chicago Business Re: New ownership, Wrigley renovations
Worth a read, especially regarding ticket prices.
Updates on Spellcheck, Bradley and Jake Fox
I did a quick search and this hasn't been posted yet. Nothing earth-shattering, as usual when it comes from Sullivan's pen.
MESA, Ariz- Chicago broadcaster Judd Sirott was named as host of the Cubs pre-game show and will assist Pat Hughes and Ron Santo in the radio booth. Sirott has been host of Blackhawks pregame, mostgame and intermission reports fir WGN radio, and was the voice of the Chicago Wolves from 1994-2006.
Much to everyone's chagrin...
Slightly OT: 50 worst sportscasters, per Yahoo Sports
This has been discussed ad nauseam, but it's nice to see it all in a list form. Hawk is #40 and Chip is #42. Oddly enough, Joe Morgan is only #3.
New Development Threatens Integrity of Wrigleyville
Some interesting bits of information regarding the proposed hotel/condos/parking on the south end of the park.
Those of you who live in the neighborhood should chime in with Ald. Tunney.
Greetings from Mexico City.
Semi-OT, Fun link on Patti Blagojevich Re: Cubs
Nothing too revealing, but I think the very last sentence of the write-up is worthy of sharing.
Physicists Say Headfirst Slide to Base Faster, Maybe
I derided one Ronaldo Cedeño a few days ago for sliding head-first into first base. After reading the information presented by the "experts," I still maintain it's a boneheaded move. The study doesn't necessarily delve into first base, head-first slides, but it's interesting nonetheless.
This is what the last 10 days have felt like to me.
Cubs Players get lucky
I searched for this on BCB and couldn't find it. Our boys seem to attract positive interest from the national media (Ms. Andrews, not the "reporter," whom incidentally reminds me of a certain someone who covers a certain Chicago team for a certain newspaper on Michigan Ave.) "Chicks dig the long ball..."
