Useful Shot
Men's Golf came up one spot shy of a trip to the NCAA Championships, but the Pack will still be represented. Albin Choi blew up the field on Saturday to take medalist honors and earn a birth in the Championship round as an individual. The Pack team finished tied for 6th, but had no real chance at making it to the next field as the 5th place team finished at -3 par which was 10 strokes better than our boys. Albin shot a -10 for the tourney and beat the next competitor by 3 strokes, sort of ironic when you look at that last sentence.
Great job Albin, and best of luck. The last NCAA Men's Golf Champion from NC State wasn't that long ago. Matt Hill took the crown after taking ACC Champion and Regional champion honors. The only other golfer in history to complete the trifecta... Tiger Woods.
Don't Look Now... Men's Golf Charging!
Men's golf started the second day in a rough spot and after each of the 5 golfers had finished 9 holes, the team was +4 on the day and sitting in 10 place of 13 teams. We started the day in 7th, and somehow the second nine was very good to the team because we got back to 7th. They improved by 6 strokes to finish at -2 for the day and Albin Choi hit a -5 to take the overall lead at -7. Tomorrow is the final round for the Regional and we need to pick up 2 spots, as a team, to get to the NCAA championship. Also the top individual who's team did not make the cut would also progress, currently Choi.
If you'd like to follow the tourney (as live as possible) you can do so here. State is currently 4 strokes behind 5th place, UVA.
No Rodon this weekend???
Baseball hits the field for an out-of-conference schedule at home this weekend against Cal-Bakersfield who is currently a game under .500. Sucks for them to have to go cross country this late in the season, but the more suprising news was that Carlos Rodon will not be taking the mound in a starting appearance.
Take the weekend off kid
Curious if they will try to use him as a DH. Rodon is still sporting a .400 batting average. In related news, Rodon and Turner have been selected to play for Team USA this summer (not olympics)
Schedule is Out
Things of interest... don't play at home until week 3, and don't have a decent home game until week 6 against FSU.
Also, our LB corp took a big hit when DJ Green was ruled ineligible by the NCAA. So what you're telling me is that our top returning LB is ruled ineligible, yet UNX still doesn't know what is happening to them after nearly a year. Yea, I'm calling shenanigans!
The Big 6 TV Deals
Rivals.com did a breakdown of the Big-6 conference TV Deals. While the former Big-12 and Big East can get complicated the remainder are all pretty clean and easy. The ACC is woefully outscored on its TV deal and did a bad job of using the former Big-Ten's deal as a model (Big-10's is three-years older). Worse news, our deal just started last year and goes for another nine. Awesome job!
I feel bad for Swofford. We the po' boys.
