It's being reported he is on his way to sign a contract. Not sure but Arians is a run first guy, think this spells the end for Manning in a Colts uni??

Gang Green Nation Joe Philbin new HC of MIA

Photobucket

Meet the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins, former Green Bay offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. Philbin has worked for the Packers the last five years , although he did not call the plays, he did help the team prepare during practice and help install game plans. You can't argue with the efficiency of Green Bay's offense, which kind of worries me as a Jets fan. With the Patriots already a pass first team, the Bills seem to be moving that way, and now the Dolphins, the Jets defense is gonna have their hands full. It will be interesting to see how Miami moves from being a run first offense(under HC Tony Sprano and OC Brian Daboll) to now a pass happy team with Philbin. I'm sure he will take someone from GB's staff to run the offense, which means Daboll will be out and he will most likely end up with the Jets. I'm sure Philbin will convince Ireland to sign Matt Flynn as a FA, who better to run his offense than a former Packer. The Dolphins already have a good defense, they have two good receivers in Bess and Marshall, so this move does concern me. What does the rest of GGN think??

Rex on Francesa 1/20/2012

Don't know if anyone else was aware but Rex Ryan will be on Mike Francesa's radio program "Mike's On" on 1/20/2012 at 1:30 PM. It will be an interesting listen and see if Rex goes on the offensive towards Mike,a la Darelle Revis.

Gang Green Nation Could we see this pairing next year???

Photobucket

After your done rolling your eyes, could we see Peyton Manning join Tom Moore in a Jets uniform next season? Manning is currently rehabbing from his neck fusion surgery and his future as the Colts QB is uncertain. As his current team keeps sliding towards a defeated season and the 1st overall pick of the 2012 draft, there are whispers of Manning becoming a FA next year. Why would this happen? Well first, he will have a 28 million dollar cap hit before the 2012 season begins. Secondly, the Colts will be able to select Stanford QB Andrew Luck, thus cementing their QB position for the next 15 years. So let me lay out of a scenario of why and how Manning will become a Jet:

Why Peyton Manning will be a 2012 Jet:
Manning's career is coming to a close and he may want to join a team that has a better chance of winning than the Colts. He may also may not want to renegotiate his contract, knowing that the team will select Luck with their first pick. Manning has an ego, and he has every right to have one, and he will still want to be the "man" in Indy. He doesn't want to have to answer questions about how Luck is progressing and face the inevitable benching in place of Luck.

The current Jets team is made up of mostly veterans, who want to win a Super Bowl. Even though, many of them have given Sanchez a ringing endorsement, they have to be wondering whether he is the guy. Sanchez has done a remarkable job in leading the team to two straight AFC championship games, but in this league you have to win the big game. Acquiring Manning would be more of an opportunity signing than an indictment of Sanchez. When Tannanbaum had the chance to acquire Favre, he pulled the trigger. Should this opportunity be any less enticing? If I were the Jets, I would jump all over Manning IF he became a FA. I would talk to Tom Moore and have him recruit Manning. Moore is semi-retired and I doubt he would want to become the Jets OC, but they could fire Schotty and bring in a young assistant that is familiar with Moore's system. I would make Manning the starter, give him a 1-2 year contract and have Sanchez learn this system from him. At the end of Manning's contract Sanchez would be able to have some continuity in this system, as the OC would stay on. Of course, there are a lot of obstacles in the way. . .

Why Peyton Manning will not be a 2012 Jet:
Perhaps the biggest reason he will not be a Jet is his contract. Would the Colts be willing to part ways with him or would they do everything they could to restructure his contract. If Indianapolis wants to draft Luck, who better to mentor him than Manning? I'm sure Manning would love to ride off into the sunset after winning a Super Bowl and tutoring Luck to be a comparable replacement.

As far as the Jets side goes. I'm not sure they will ever give up on Sanchez because they have to much invested in him. Plus, it would be Rex and Tanny admitting they were wrong about him. I'm sure they would worry about the long term effects on Mark's confidence by bringing in another QB to lead them to the promised land. Even though, that QB would be Peyton Manning, i'm sure Sanchez thinks he has what it takes to be just as good as Manning down the road. If he didn't then he shouldn't be a professional football player.

Let's face it, this scenario will not likely play out, but anything is a possibility. Bottom line is I just don't see Manning ever leaving the Colts and I cannot see the Jets front office giving the reigns to the franchise to another QB. But then again Favre was never supposed to leave Green Bay.

Gang Green Nation What if?

Photobucket

I was watching the total annihilation of the Giants last night, by the New Orleans Saints, and was wondering what if? What if the Dolphins had decided to make an offer to Brees to become their franchise quarterback? If you remember before the 2006 season Brees was a free agent and was being courted by the Dolphins and the Saints. He had torn the labrum in his right shoulder during the season and had to have surgery on it. The surgery was successful but the Chargers were leary that his rotater cuff had been severely damaged as well. Having Phillip Rivers available, the Chargers offered Brees an incentive laden contract, he got insulted and decided to see what the market had to offer. The Dolphins needed a QB bad and were courting Brees but ultimately decided not to offer him a contract, based on the health of his shoulder. Brees would go on to sign with the Saints, while the Dolphins traded for Duante Culpepper.  Since 2006 he has thrown for at least 4,000 yds per season, has at least 26 td's per season, and has not a a QB rating below 89.4. We all know how the QB situation worked out for Miami.  I'm sure a large part of Brees success has to do with Sean Payton, who became the head coach of the Saints in 2006 and lobbied hard for Brees.

I, as a Jet fan, am happy that Miami decided not to sign him. It's kind of funny that they didn't want to sign Brees but they had Chad Pennington as their QB, who tore his rotater cuff on more than one occasion. Imagine being in the same division with Drew Brees and Tom Brady? Thanks to Miami that's the only way it could be possible.

Gang Green Nation A win's a win?

Well what else can you say about yesterday's game? You have to admit that the Jets got lucky, that Steve Johnson lost all concentration on his dropped pass on the final drive of the game. How he was so open is hard to fathom, maybe even surprised Johnson himself.  The Bills offense( who was without Fred Jackson) played fairly well, especially considering how they faired in the previous meeting. Let me get to some points on the game:

Mark Sanchez: Seems like every week he is a weakness in the offense. He did not play very well for most of the game. He was sailing throws, throwing behind receivers, and just had all sorts of communication problems. You had that one throw where Keller was wide open, went way too high but Keller had to make an acrobatic catch. There was another play where Turner was running a post and if Sanchez throws the ball either higher or out in front of him, its a TD. I think the play where he just totally threw it behind Holmes in the flat was only part his fault. I thought Rich Gannon made some great points on him yesterday, such as how he doesn't pick up his receivers fast enough and hence throws behind them. You have to give him credit on the final TD drive to win the game. I've heard some say that he made a horrible throw to Burress, and if not for an unbelievable catch, the Jets would have lost. Well on that play he got blitzed and he threw it where only Plax could catch it. I am nit picking as how many teams have a QB that can throw 4 TD passes?

Darrelle Revis: I played cornerback in high school and I can tell you the hardest routes to cover are the slants and the comebacks. It seemed like Johnson was running these routes on Revis all day. His TD catch was a quick slant in which Revis faked playing press and then dropped five yards back. There was another catch Johnson made in which he ran as hard as he could ten yards then stopped and actually slipped, got up and caught the ball. Those routes are impossible to defend unless you get up on the receiver and jam the crap out of him to disrupt timing. The Jets pass rush was non existent yesterday so Johnson could make 4-5 moves to get open. I think Revis is still the best corner in football. Imagine what he would do with a constant pass rush?? Not sure why he was playing off the entire game though.

The coaching staff: Ten days to prepare for this game and that's what you came up with? How flat was this team in all three aspects? I heard Craig Carton this morning say you have ten days to prepare and your first play on offense is a run up the middle to Conner? Shonn Greene and the OLine where doing good things, but he only had 8 carries in the whole first half! I just don't understand what is going on with the offense. Are we gonna ground and pound or pretend we are the Patriots? On defense, again with the prevent on the final drive of the game? I understand you were afraid to send the house, since it burned you against Denver, well Fitzpatrick thrives in the pocket. You have to force him out of the pocket and he is highly inacurrate. Rex needs to sit down with Pettine and rethink their strategy. How did the defense go from killing the Bills earlier in the season, to not even being able to get pressure on Fitzpatrick??

If any Jet fan can sit here and think the team, in it's current state can win a playoff game, you need to think again. There are some major problems with this team. Now they are going to face a Redskin team that came back from 17 points to beat Seattle. Let's hope they get it worked out.

Gang Green Nation GGN Mock Draft, Round 2, Pick 12,Detroit Lions:Akeem Ayers,LB,UCLA

After checking three times(which I should have done with Prince Akukamara),with the 12th pick in the 2nd round, the Detroit Lions select LB Akeem Ayers, UCLA.  Ayers would immediately be an upgrade over Bobby Carpenter, DeAndre Levy, Ashlee Palmer, and Julian Peterson. Eventhough, cornerback is a big need there were none worth taking this high in the second round. The Lions need someone to be able to rush the QB behind their awesome front 4. While the defensive line ties up multiple blockers Ayers can come around the outside or through a gap on the inside to get to the quarterback. Standing at 6’3" and 254 lbs. he has the frame to shed blockers and be a force in stopping the run. He also demonstrates great awareness in coverage. Ayers has six career interceptions, returning one for a TD. The big downside to Ayers is that he is not very fast. He ran a disappointing  4.81 forty at the combine.  He still shows a good burst coming off the snap and he relies on his speed to get to the quarterback. If he can hone his skills in the at the next level Ayers will be a dominate LB in Jim Schwartz’s 4-3 defense.

**Special thanks to Pride of Detroit members for they're help and also setting me straight!

Pride Of Detroit Help with my mock

Hello Pride of Detroit and Lion fans! I am a Jets fan and a member of Gang Green Nation. I decided to take the Lions in our site's mock draft. We have already completed our first round and I selected Nate Solder, T, out of Colorado. This raised some eyebrows since Derrick Sherrod and Anthony Constanzo were still on the board. I thought protecting Stafford was the number one priority. The next priority in my opinion would be to select a cornerback that can lock up to the opponents #1. This is were I need your help. We are in the second round and the top cornerbacks are gone as well as Aaron Williams and Ras-I Dowling(who was selected in the first round). So I thought it may be to early for Curtis Brown or Davon House. Should I address the LB position by selecting Bruce Carter? Or should I select Adrain Clayborn for depth and to take over KVB's position eventually? Please any suggestions or advice would be a great help. My pick is due by the end of tomorrow. Thanks!

Gang Green Nation GGN Mock Draft, Pick 13, Detroit Lions: Nate Solder, OT, Colorado

For the 13th pick of 2011 NFL, the Detroit Lions select Nate Solder, OT from Colorado University. While the Lions have many needs, the smart move here is to go with an offensive tackle. Matthew Stafford needs a LT he can rely on for years to come. They need a lineman that will be able to hold their own against the likes of Julius Peppers, Jared Allen, and the countless number of blitzers on the Packers. Standing at 6’8” and weighing 319 lbs., Solder is a force on the line. He displays good quickness has a massive wingspan and he  also has the athleticism to pull around the end and pancake defenders. The Lions line needs to be rebuilt with players like Jeff Backus, Gosder Cherlius, Jason Fox, and Corey Hillard listed as tackles. The line gave up 24 sacks and were ranked 6th in the NFL in QB hits. With a dynamic receiver in Calvin Johnson and a promising TE in Brandon Pettigrew, it would be nice for Stafford to have more time to throw.

The only negatives on Solder are that he played for a school that really didn’t have a prolific offense. Colorado was ranked 59th in passing offense, 85th in rushing offense, and averaged 24 points per game. I’m no expert  but from watching his highlights it seems like he needs to work on picking up the quicker blitzers. After all of this with the right technique and work I think Solder will be a force for years to come and will become one of the best left tackles in the game.

Gang Green Nation Wes Welker on trading block?

I follow twitter very closely and as some of you may know, I follow incarceratedBob. He is a big Jets fan and he is 50/50 on stories he reports. He claims to have sources in all the major sports. Well a source told him that Ryan and Belichick's postgame handshake involved an apology for Welker's comment's about Rex's fetish. How his source knows this, I have no clue. He has had multiple sources claim that Belichick has told people on the team that Welker will not be a Patriot next year and they are looking for a 2nd or 3rd round choice for him. I'm not sure I want to believe this because as all of us Jet fans know, NE is a very secretive team. Belichick is very tight lipped and I don't see how this would have gotten leaked. If it is true then I have to say wow. I don't like Belichick but I respect him as one of the greatest coaches the NFL has ever seen. For him to trade one of his best players because they went against his orders, is a real gutsy move. You have to hand it to him and tip your cap if the story is true. We know about players that crossed him in the past like Seymour,Moss,Milloy, they all got traded or were released. So as Jet fans what do you think? Should we believe this story? If it is true should we inquire about acquiring Welker??

Gang Green Nation What is Leon thinking??

We are exactly five days away from the deadline for restricted free agents to sign their tender. Yet for some reason Leon Washington has still not signed. The only reason for this, is the irrational advice he is receiving from his agent, Alvin Keels. He must be telling Leon to wait until this week and they will hold a workout for teams  that are interested. The Jets clearly look like the good guys in this situation, making Leon look selfish for thinking he can get a good contract after recovering from a major leg injury. So with all that said what teams would be interested in signing LW and surrendering a 2nd round pick??

Gang Green Nation Will Trader Mike move up or down??

Had a few vacation days so I had some time to write a post since I haven’t done one in awhile. I constantly think about what Mr. T and Rex have in plan for the draft. They really haven’t given us any clues as to what their plan is. I, for one, think they will make some sort of trade, whether it be up or down. So I want to concentrate on that scenario with this post.

I located a draft pick value chart which is located here: http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php

According to this chart the Jets 29th pick is worth 640 points.

Scenario 1: Trading Down

Why would the Jets trade down? Well picking at the end of the first round makes it very difficult to target a certain player. The team has a luxury in that there is arguably only one position,DE, where they need an upgrade. You could also argue that the Jets need another pass rushing OLB to pick up the slack of Gholston and Thomas. Trading down would enable the Jets to select an OLB and a DE or a hybrid. The Jets can trade their first rounder for lets say Denver’s 2nd and 3rd rounder which would equal  598 points. Of course this does not equal 640 but I’m not a GM and have no idea how they work these deals out. I doubt that they could ever get the values to be equal. For arguments sake let’s say the Jets and Broncos agree to this. Now the Jets pick in the middle and bottom of the 2nd, and the bottom of the 3rd. With as deep as this draft is I feel the Jets could get an OLB and DE in the 2nd and a receiver in the 3rd. I need the nation’s help with recommendations for who the Jets could select if they would make this trade.

Scenario 2: Trading Up

Why would the Jets trade up? Let’s say the top nine teams in the first round lose their minds and all pass on Ndamukong Suh or Eric Berry. The Jets call the Jaguars and inquire what it would take to move up to #10. The tenth pick in the first round has a value of 1,300 points. Let’s eliminate players from any of these trades and base it soley on this year’s draft choices. The Jets would have to surrender all of their remaining picks and still have to make 269 points in order to move up to the tenth spot. So in other words without trading a David Harris or Cotchery, I don’t see how the Jets could or would move up that high in the draft.

I personally feel that if Odrick is gone the Jets will trade down and acquire a 3rd round pick. They must be secretly hoping that Leon gets an offer from another team and they acquire an additional pick in the second round. This will give them more flexibility to move around in the draft. It will also help them add depth to the team.

So what do you think? Do you agree that the Jets will trade down if their guy is gone or will they go best available player??

Gang Green Nation Anti Mike Francesa Post. . .

Mike-francesa_medium

via i50.photobucket.com

This man has been spewing venom about the Jets ever since they beat the Colts. I don't know what his problem is with the Jets but he has never been so anti-Jet before. I am 28 years old and I have been listening to Mike/Mike and the Mad Dog for about 10 years now. Back when Chris Russo(aka Mad Dog) was on the show, Mike was tolerable. Now he is out of control, granted it's his show, but can he at least be fair, or unbiased. I really think this may have something to do with the fact that Woody Johnson decided not to renew the Jets contract with the WFAN. As some of you may remember 660 WFAN was the flagship station for the Jets long before it took control of the Giants. Is this the reason why he is so anti-Jet? Are higher powers whispering in Mike's ear?

In case you don't know here are some things he has been saying against the Jets:

-that the Jets have backed into the playoffs by beating 2 teams that laid down for them because they had nothing to play for

-the Jets #1 defense is that in name only. He continues to say that there are no elite defenses in the NFL this year and this is why the Jets are ranked #1. The Jets cannot be an elite D because they cannot bring pressure with less than 5 players rushing the QB.

-that Rex Ryan is a "clown" and he needs to get a grip on reality.

-teams around the league are laughing at the Jets and that they have no shot to make the AFC championship game let alone the Super Bowl.

I am sure there is much more. Feel free to post your Anti Francesa statements. When the Jets beat the Bengals I want to see if he eats some crow. I doubt that he will until then we should all turn our backs on this so called "expert"

Gang Green Nation Sanchez regressing?

After watching the game yesterday it occurred to me that maybe Mark Sanchez is not learning what he is being taught. The first three games he was unbelievable, getting out of blitzes and making huge third down completions. You watch him now and you can't believe that he was ever able to do what he did in the beginning of the year. The color codes worked for 2 games, what happened yesterday? You can see that Rex is irate by his play by the fact that he ran onto the field and ripped his headset off after Sanchez dove, HEAD FIRST, instead of throwing it away. We as Jet fans have to be alarmed that he is in fact, regressing, rather than progressing. What does the nation think?

Gang Green Nation Should Sanchez sit??

Should the Jets let Mark Sanchez rest on Sunday so that his PCL can fully heal and he can be 100% for the Atlanta game? If they think Clemens can get the job done then theres no sense in rushing Sanchez out there with the risk that he hurts himself even more. I'm not sure Ryan trusts Clemens and might feel that a hobbled Sanchez is better than a healthy Clemens. So the question remains should they let Sanchez play on Sunday?
