From The Rumble Seat Whatever Happened To...

...Pepper Rodgers?

Good question! Apparently, he's loving retirement in Reston Towne Center, VA, writing a little, and running his website. Rodgers is best remembered for being Tech's eccentric head coach from 1974-1980, but I didnt know until I started reading that he held several positions of football prominence after he left the Institute including VP of Football Operations for the Redskins. He was on the 1952 NC team, is partially responsible for us being in the ACC, and is a member of the GA Sports Hall of Fame. Enjoy the linkage!

His personal website (kinda quirky)

His Wiki page

His GSHOF citation

Is Tom Luginbill really saying that we may not have deserved the 1990 NC?

From The Rumble Seat Defensive Rankings

While sitting on my Monday morning conference calls (that I don't really listen to anyway), I decided to research some defensive stats. I'm posting them for your viewing pleasure...

Team Defense--National Ranking out of 120 NCAA teams

  • Rushing Defense 64
  • Passing Defense 98
  • Total Defense 82
  • Scoring Defense 77
  • Pass Efficiency Defense (whatever that is) 108
  • 3rd Down Conversion Defense 99 (44% of 3rd downs against us are converted)
  • 4th Down Conversion Defense 88 (63% of 4th downs are converted)
  • 1st Down Defense 56 (allowing almost 19 1st downs per game)
  • Sacks 74 (1.67 per game)
  • Red Zone defense 35 (76% conversion rate)

Just for kicks, I looked at our recruiting database on Rivals. We currently have 12 commits listed; 8 of them are for defense. Of those, 3 of them are DT/DE.

From The Rumble Seat Whatever happened to...

...Chris Reis?

Funny you should ask. I was wondering that myself tonight and thought I'd find out.

Turns out he's playing on special teams for the Ain'ts. Great for him, I always loved the way he played. The guy was a maniac and would absolutely crush people on the field. He always reminded me of John Lynch, except a little heavier, I think.

Here's a video of him making a play against Syracuse in 2004.

From The Rumble Seat Will Diesel return?

I do my best thinking when I drive, and I drove a lot this weekend. One of my main thinking points, as always this time of year, was GT football and the future of our beloved corps of student-athletes. I also listened to the CPJ show podcast (which I could listen to over and over again and not get tired of), which just added to my thoughts.

One of my main thoughts about the future of GT football revolves around Jon Dwyer. I have an opinion, but I'm interested in reading everyone else's.

Do you think Diesel will return next year?

Poll
Will Jon Dwyer return to GT next year?
Nope, he'll be the Browns' starting tailback next year.

Yes, he wants to return and try and break Robert Lavette's record.

It depends on what happens the rest of the season (cop out answer, btw).

From The Rumble Seat Why I Hate the AJC

I sat down today to read through all the AJC.COM stuff about Tech. I'd been traveling for a few days and wanted to catch up a little. To my extreme pleasure, I spotted the below article about Wes Durham, voice of the Jackets. I think a lot of Wes and personally believe that he is one of the best broadcasters in the country. I literally love the guy.

Anyway, I settle in on my laptop thinking this Q&A will be a good 20 minute read into Wes' perspective on GT, life, his dad, etc. Little did I know that the "Q&A" would be four freaking questions.

I hate the AJC. Not only do I hate them, but I despise them. I loathe the very paper they print on, the very code they weakly type to get their lame stories to appear on their site, and the real estate their liberal, UGA journalism school graudates-filled facility sits on--wherever it is.

F YOU, AJC!
