Wish I'd been able to watch more
of last nights osu-tamu game. I was only able to catch a little bit in the third quarter as osu was storming back into the game. Sounds like it turned into a good game (well, not so great from a tamu viewpoint) in the end. The part that I got see had osu dominating tamu, but what I caught, multiple times in fact, was the broadcasters giving TONS of love to Mike Leach for the success of the osu offense. Did anyone else catch that or was I just having a moment for Mike Leach??
BTW.....I miss Mike Leach..........................
Something's missing.....
When you're a Red Raider football fan, there are certain things that you learn to expect. 1. we are always the under acheiver; 2. we always have less talent; 3. we always accomplish more with less; and 4. for the past 10 years, our under-achieving, less talented players (on the offensive side of the ball) have been at the top of the heap in offensive production (yards and points) in all of college football. Certainly a lot of the credit must go to Mike Leach, but, Mike Leach did not throw or catch a single pass, he did not break a single tackle, and he did not call a single audible. Now don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying these things as a swipe at Tommy Tuberville. Because right now, I'm of the opinion that even if Mike Leach were still the head coach, the level of play that we're seeing on the field would be no different. Sorry, but that's just the way that I feel.
Why do I feel this way, well, it's because I don't see a single player that is able to transcend themselves like we have had the pleasure of having in past years. There are no over-achievers, we don't have a Wes Welker, Michael Crabtree, Danny Amendola, Taurean Henderson, or Joel Filani. We don't have a leader/qb/offensive coordinator on the field like Graham Harrell or B.J. Symons. I certainly believe that we have talented players who are playing their hearts out, but not one (on the offensive side) who is stepping it up. I really started feeling this way last year, but just attributed it post Harrell/Crabtree hangover. But now I'm really feeling that we are just don't have the type of player(s) (on the offensive side) who can/will cut through all the bull shit and just make plays.
All of this crap that we continue to suffer through (don't like the coach, don't like the system, don't like the traditions, don't like/agree on much of anything the new or old coach does or did) is just that, a bunch of crap and a cop out. The current over-analysis (IMO) of breaking down every play is giving me tired brain and in the end it just doesn't mean squat. The only things that matter to a Texas Tech team are offensive production (yards and points) and wins. But most importantly, it's about the Texas Tech player(s) that flush all of the bull shit and play lights out on every single snap. It's about making everyone wonder who are these guys, where did they come from, and when did they get so talented??
Yep, we've always done more with less, we always have the biggest chip on our shoulder and for the past 10 years we've been able to back it up on the field. I'm hoping that the current team can work it out and get back what's missing.
Houston's Keenum out for the season
Sad to see this. He is a "real deal" qb, as we learned last year.
O line recruit from Haltom City
Currently a junior and one of three brothers...all O linemen. The article says that Tech has already extended an offer. Maybe a trifecta for Tech?????
Texas Tech Official Sports Report Bites the DustThanks for all your support over the last 9 months but, unfortunately, OSR is no more. I have joined up with RaiderPower.com (Scout.com) team and will be doing a lot of cool stuff. So if you want to get that daily fix, come join RaiderPower.com. Century in the Making - Texas Football
On November 26, 1994, we went to see two H.S. football playoff games at Texas Stadium. Plano played in the first game and Plano East played in the second game. Little did we know how memorable AND special the Plano East game would become to us. To make a long story short, Plano East was getting clobbered by Tyler...until the second half. They made an amazing comeback and took the lead with just a few seconds left. However, on the kickoff with just seconds remaining, Tyler returned the kickoff for a TD and East lost. It was incredible. You can see it here on YouTube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHkABO0VwCg
The radio announcers made the come back even more special (I think I'm gonna throw up). The guy doing the play by play is Eddie Clinton. Eddie is former sportscaster from Lubbock and Dallas. I didn't know Eddie then, but I know him now because now he's my brother-in-law. Y'all know Eddie as eddyc5555.
So why am I babbling about this?? Well.....American Airlines and the host committee for the 2011 Super Bowl (being played in Cowboys Stadium) is promoting the greatest moments in Texas Football history. And yes, the Plano East/John Tyler game is in the running. I know I've never witnessed anything like that game before or since. I'd vote for it even if I didn't know Eddie from Adam. The winners, there will be 5, will be recognized during the Super Bowl. Please support Eddie and Plano East.
RIP Merlin Olsen
We've lost one of the greats...........
I have to believe that there is strength in numbers!!!
I got the call a few nights back, you know which one; "Hello, Mr. Murray this is (insert students name) from Texas Tech." He was a very nice kid, he followed his script perfectly and had just the right amount of "everything at Tech is great" tone in his voice. We chit chatted for several minutes, when he told me he was not in the College of Ag. (Mass Comm.)I tried to get him to switch majors.
And then came the big moment, you know what I'm talking about, "Mr. Murray, can we count on your support in the amount of $$$$ this year?" and he was still doing a very good job. So...I said, well, I'd like to but I have to ask if Mr. Hance, Mr. Bailey, and Mr. Myers are still employed at Tech. He responded with a little more than a slight chuckle, "Yes they are." So, I told him that as long as the they were employees at Tech, the University would not see any of my money.
He then told me that HE'D HEARD THE SAME THING FROM MOST PEOPLE HE'D TALKED TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!! I can only hope and pray that this information will turn a light bulb on in someone's head that change must happen. He told me that he did a report on each call and that he would definitely note my concern. Then I told him to change it from Mr. Hance, Mr. Bailey, Nd Mr. Myers to the three stooges. He really got a kick out of that.
Who knows if he does a report, let alone putting anything down other than he talked to me and I declined. I FELT BETTER!!!! No, actually I felt ENCOURAGED. I will never get over the pathetic and incompetent way they handled the entire Mike Leach debacle. I'd better stop now because I'm beginning to hear Battle Hymn of the Republic in the back of my head.....
STRIVE FOR HONOR, EVERMORE!!!!!!!

Yes Virginia.
Yes Virginia it's true. Texas Tech is no different than ut or a&m . We now know that Tech is run/controlled by people who have virtually unlimited financial resources along with egos and control issues that exceed their financial resources. I know Virginia, just like me, you have ALWAYS KNOWN in your heart that Tech was different from the others. Oh sure, there will always be someone making a political play or pursuing a personal agenda, but this is Texas Tech. We don't stoop or bow to those kind of pressures. We have ALWAYS been guided and lead by not only very intelligent people, but most importantly ones who ALWAYS and ONLY had the well-being of Tech in the forefront. They were able to set aside egos and control issues. Nothing else mattered to them or us. Now sadly, we learn that we were so completely wrong, mislead, or we've had our prideful love-for-Tech heads stuck in the sand. Whatever the the case Virginia, the Tech that we have absolutely loved and cherished for many years has changed in the past 3 days more than we can or want to comprehend. Our feelings that Tech was above the others, that we were being lead by people who loved Tech above the outside controlling forces has been dashed to smithereens. We're now lead by tools; we really don't have a clue as to who is actually in control. Maybe it's because there really isn't anyone in control, we're being led by whatever tool is swinging the largest hammer on any given day.
I'm sorry Virginia; the tools have taken away something that was PRECIOUS to us. They have taken the special love and pride that we've always held in our heart for Tech. They've taken the special feeling of fairness, caring, and decency that we knew separated us from the others. It's gone forever Virginia.

Enough
Yesterday, they (ESPN) went through the entire Big XII schedule...almost, because according to ESPN, Tech wasn't scheduled to play yesterday......oops.....just a slight oversight no doubt. According to College Football Today, ESPN News, and SportsCenter; Tebow and McCoy had incredible games yesterday, they're both better than last year, what makes their games incredible and how are both of them better than last year you ask??? Well, McCoy threw for 3 touchdowns and Tebow threw for 4. Excuse me, but their combined numbers equals one Taylor Potts day.......... And now, #99 ranked....oops....surely just another oversight.
We'll see what happens after we beat ut next week. My bet is that ut, ou, and osu (who will all have a loss) will still be ranked higher than Tech. I don't know why or where the total lack of respect (ok, it's just an oversight) comes from, but it's more than obvious.
In the end, no one can (justifiably) argue with winning. Just keep it up boys. The more W's we have, the more ridiculous and prejudice their snubs look, and I really hope that somebody on the team is putting these snubs up in the locker room.
WRECK 'EM TECH
Scotty Young - Another Great Tech QB on the Horizon
This past Friday, Scotty Young tied a Texas H.S. record with 8 T.D. passes in one game. Over 540 yards passing for the night. WAY TO GO SCOTTY!!!!!!!!
The really exciting part is that he's putting up equivalent numbers every week!!!

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!
All of these prognosticating, foreshadowing, hand-wringing, my best guess, beat-the-bandwagon disquisitions on everything Texas Tech football is driving me NUTS!!!!!!! This will all be settled on the Field of Battle.I want some RED RAIDER FOOTBALL and I want it NOW!!!
The crew is ready. Batton down the hatches!!!! Set the main sail!!!! The Captain is about let loose a full broadside barrage!!! He won't be taking any prisoners or giving any mercy!!! 12-0 and you heard it here first!!!!
WRECK 'EM TECH!!!!!!!!!
There, I feel better...................
Hitler and A&M.......
Now this is pretty funny....of course they had to get some shots in on Tech, but it's pretty dang anyways.....
Pat Knight is a GREAT Red Raider!!!!!
Caught the last 15 minutes of the Pat Knight Show on Fox SW last night, he did the entire show wearing a football helmet...and I don't know if he volunteered or not, but the host (Don Collier-I think) wore one the entire show also. They showed a clip of Pat coming onto the court at the first basketball game wearing a football jersey. Of course everyone already knows about him and the basketball team delivering several hundred pizzas to Raiderville before the Texas game. How awesome is Pat Knight!!!!!!!
What a great time to be a Red Raider!!!!!
What a great person to have as a Red Raider!!!!!!
GO TECH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALL AMERICAN Player of the Week - A Tech 2-fer
Both Graham Harrell AND Matt Williams are on the ballot for All American Player of the week!! How 'bout Matt Williams getting nominated in his first game!!!! Someone's paying attention for him to get the nod!!
I was at the game when he booted for the free rent. What a great story!! Congrats Matt!! Whether you win the player of the week or not, you've done yourself, your team and your school proud!!
Field Judge Injury
Follow up on the Field Judge who was injured in the first quarter yesterday. He tore his Achilles, out for the season...probably career ending. The good news is that the Kansas trainers and Dr's. took really good care of him. Apparently they have a big time sports rehab program there at Kansas, I understand Tiger Woods has been rehabbing there.
Bad day for Big XII officials... the Umpire in the Nebraska/Baylor game went down w/ a knee injury.
"Guns Up?????"
Did anyone else get this snotty little text message from ESPN the moment A&M took the lead??? I'm certain that I received it because I've voted for Harrell and Crabtree in the ESPN All-American of the Week poll. I'm also certain that I wasn't singled out by ESPN to receive their little jab.Of course there wasn't a "Guns Up - Tech Wins!! message either. I find it quite sophomoric at best, totally disrespectful at worst for them to send this little ditty.
I can only hope that the message ended up on several of the players phones also. Great locker room fodder!!!
