You can help shape the new ESC!

1

The Kings, along with the City of Sacramento, want your input on the Entertainment Sports Complex. Let them know what your vision of the new ESC should be or forever hold your peace. You'll also be given a chance to attend one of four workshops regarding the ESC at the end of the survey (seats are limited). What are you doing? WHY U NO TAKE SURVEY?

It's great to hear (once more) how Ranadive believes in data both off and on the court. YES PLEASE.

$2.1 million in ticket sales. Yesterday. Alone. In three days, the Kings have surpassed the Timberwolves in season ticket sales.

This is according to an off-the-record chat with my Kings season ticket representative. He also told me he had been promoted, and came back to his old position to help with the volume of calls they're getting. Also, Kings ticket reps are going to have constant contact with season ticket holders (as opposed to last year's lack of contact). Good or bad thing, depending on your viewpoint.

Mayor Johnson Will Not Continue Lobbying the Maloofs

Bleh. Why can't March 1st just come already so we can end the drama? I need to know, either way. Especially if I'm thinking about purchasing jerseys...or caring about the NBA.

Get your gym shoes on, the T-Wolves are holding point guard tryouts before today's game!

+

In all fairness, they're down to one healthy PG and really need to address this issue--which is why they're holding this tryout. But since it's the T-Wolves, and since they drafted and got shafted by Ricky Rubio, this is extremely LOLz-worthy.

Team USA Basketball Tomorrow Night!

It's just an intrasquad matchup, but it IS basketball. Evans has been effectively ruled out of this year's team (hat tip to Kenneth256). Coverage on ESPN2 and espn3.com starts at 7pm (Pacific).

It lists pretty much EVERY free-agent, their current status, and how much they'll cost. Simple and clean, yet even this couldn't avoid the shadow of LeBronapalooza 2010.

Can't watch the draft on ESPN? Other live resources you may want to check out if you're in the Sacramento area

  1. No cable? If you have Comcast and broadband but aren't home (hello you late workers), you can check out ESPN3.com for free. I'd advise taking a look now so you get familiar with the site.
  2. On the go? Listen to the radio: 1140 AM for Peach-influenced commentary, 1320 AM for the ESPN broadcast, or 680/1050 AM in the Bay Area
  3. No radio, but you've got an iPhone? Get the CBS Radio app and listen to Sports1140 or ESPN 1300

Jon Brockman Has Short Arms

8

Interesting presentation of information of the lengths of the past 9 years of draft picks. The Brockness Monster has a wingspan that is 3.7" shorter than the average NBA draftee of his height. And yet he can somehow out-dunk Greene in practice.

Great article on why we shouldn't trade everything away just to lose in the playoffs

6

Okay, not really WHY we shouldn't trade to make the playoffs, but this article discusses where we are at in the rebuilding process. I thought this was a great reason as to why we shouldn't pull the gun on any trades that won't help us in the long-term. I'd much rather have a contender in 2-4 years, rather than having a consistently average team during those years (hello, 2004-2006 Kings!).

(Original NBA Photo by Rocky Widner/Getty Images) Flipper, you CAN'T GUARD ME! Flipper is ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED by Tyreke Evans. Clearly, Flipper was out of his element and had no business guarding Evans. ...and yes, I know this is a horrible Photoshop--it includes Magic players. But that's what you get when you have to 'work'.

Apparently Joe Maloof is ok with sponsored jerseys (from USA Today): "Times are different," says Joe Maloof, whose family company owns the NBA's Sacramento Kings and WNBA's Monarchs. "It's a new economic climate now. Any time you can generate revenue in the right way, you should be able to do it. You have to. If we can find the right partner, why not?"

JT blocked by Yaroslav Korlev, shamed for life.

25

JT was blocked by THE Yaroslav Korlev (12th pick of 2005 draft by Clippers--what you don't remember?): "That reminds me, my favorite moment of summer league came when Korolev, playing on the Knicks' squad, blocked Sacramento forward Jason Thompson's shot from behind. Thompson seemed willing to accept it as part of the game until he turned around, saw who got him, and said, "Oh, s---!" He looked as shocked as he would have if someone had just walked on the court and served him a subpoena." --J.A. Andande from ESPN.com
