Daily Norseman Brett Favre and Jenn Sterger

I have no idea if this is true or not, but i think its pretty funny. This is the latest update on this whole thing and it has the video of the voicemails that Brett sent her and a little something else. It really does sound like him in the voicemail. This whole story seems to be picking up alot after the pics and voicemails were just put up Thursday. You be the judge!

[ED NOTE--I'm not deleting the post, but I am deleting the link.  If you want to go to the other site and get their version of the story, fine.  It's not hard to find.  We can argue the merits of the story, as it has been reported by the New York Daily News and Fox News, and seems to be gaining some legs.  But the link has some pretty objectionable pictures in it, and since I'm not into promoting a sausage fest on this site, I took the link down.  Hope you understand.  Thanks, Ted]

Daily Norseman Vikings send three to Favre

"It's believed the trio was sent to Hattiesburg, Miss., to try to convince Favre to return. Sources confirmed the three were not at meetings earlier this morning either.   Favre has wavered on his decision on seemingly a daily basis and even told the Vikings he was going to stay retired on Aug. 2 because his left ankle hadn’t responded the way he had hoped to offseason surgery. However, the team convinced him to take more time to make up his mind." HERE WE GOO!! :))))

Daily Norseman Mariucci says Favre is not retiring

....yet.

"As reports that Brett Favre will retire for a third time dominated the NFL, Steve Marucci stepped forward with a message: Everybody just needs to calm down.

Marucci, who coached Favre in Green Bay, said Tuesday that his former pupil isn't ready to call it quits and is trying to wait out a troublesome ankle that needed offseason surgery.

"So the question mark is, how fast can he be healthy?" Marucci said on NFL Network's NFL Total Access. "He's trying. He's trying like crazy. He was working out in his yard today, he told me."

Daily Norseman Not so fast!

OK hold up...Favre just got off the phon will steve marricui and told him he was going to continue to throw the football AND work out acording to via NFL network..

---

With one phone call late Tuesday afternoon, Brett Favre turned the Minnesota Vikings offices into a frenzy of motion -- a "zoo" is the way one Vikings employee described it -- as Favre informed coach Brad Childress that he would not be joining them for the 2009 season.

Retired.

It took a lot for Favre to get there, even though he was already there.

He had already retired after his comeback for the 2008 Jets season fell short of a championship, short of even a playoff berth. Had he decided to return to the game for a 19th season, he would have been required to apply for reinstatement with the league. Of course, that would have been a formality.

Nothing about this twisting Favre decision, however, was mere formality.

He danced with the Vikings. It was a juicy twirl. The idea of one more season. One in the NFC North where he could play his old Green Bay Packers at least twice. One more chance to finish his career on top. One more shot in a familiar offense. Surgery on his injured throwing arm and passes zipped to Mississippi high school receivers. Vikings coaches and trainers visiting him in Mississippi during the process.

Would he actually do it?

He promised the Vikings he would inform them of his decision by July 30 and he beat that deadline by two days. Two Mondays ago, he seemed ready to make his decision by last Friday. And that made those closest to him think he was itching to play. Ready to go.

But as last week wore on, Favre began thinking about moving his family from Mississippi. About the grueling nature of one more training camp. About whether his arm would hold up late in the season.

And then he began thinking more about how it all faded with the Jets last season. That became a lingering, stinging bur. We may never know how much the Jets' 8-2 start that became a 1-4 finish and a failed playoff push really stung him. Sources close to him say the blame for it all, the pain of it all, resonated. And to possibly endure that again with the Vikings? The idea of "What if we don't win?" It was a mountain, in the end, that he was not willing to scale.

An NFL personnel executive said of Favre: "I think it was a big thing for him in considering Minnesota that he would play half of his games in a domed stadium. He looked terrible last year in cold weather. He looked like a tired old man."

He turns 40 on Oct. 10.

Favre shares that trait that the best NFL players and coaches in history often share: The losses, the disappointments, the rawness of failure hurts more than the joy of winning.

This throws the Vikings for a loop.

They knew the shot of landing Favre began with great promise but in recent days waned to no better than 50-50. The longer it went, the less likely it seemed among the Vikings. But they were clinging to "yes." Now they move forward with Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels at quarterback and that nagging notion that they are a player away -- a big-time quarterback away -- from a legitimate championship run.

Vikings players report to camp on Wednesday.

And that is why Vikings management was in such a state of flux on Tuesday night. Their message to the team must be refocused. The Vikings season is all about how these players buy it. And if a quarterback can emerge among them to fill what is clearly a hole.

Daily Norseman Elway to Favre: Absolutely play

From Startribune.com

July 25th, 2009 – 1:31 PM by Chip Scoggins

Sam Farmer of the LA Times caught up with Hall of Fame quarterbacks John Elway and Joe Montana and asked them about Brett Favre’s possible return to football.

Elway said Favre absolutely should come out of retirement to play for the Vikings because “if he decides not to play now and doesn’t come back, I think he’ll question that for the rest of his life.”

Montana said Favre should play if he feels like he’s ready but that he needs to make a decision one way or the other as quickly as possible.

“Usually when you’re waffling like that it makes it difficult on everybody,” he said.

One interesting part of the story was that Elway suffered a similar arm injury late in his career that Favre recently had fixed. Like Favre, Elway needed surgery to repair a torn biceps tendon. Elway said he believes Favre’s arm should feel fine now that he has had the surgery.

Daily Norseman Winfield to call Favre

from profootballtalk.com

Favre's deliberations are still unfinished (so much for those reports of a decision by the end of the week).

Agent Bus Cook tells Rachel Nichols of ESPN that Favre isn't ready to give the proverbial up or down.  "He just doesn't feel ready yet," Nichols said regarding her chat with Cook.  "There are some things he's still considering."

In the interim, the full-court press to get Favre to come to Minnesota apparently will continue.

Specifically, Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield will be expressing his gratitude for his new $36 million contract by spending a few of his Sprint phone minutes on a phone call to Mississippi.

Per Rick Alonzo of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Winfield has Favre's phone number, and Winfield might give Favre a ring.

"As a cornerback, I know he's a threat," Winfield said.  "He can throw.  He wants to win.  If he does decide to become a Minnesota Viking, we'll welcome him with open arms."

That would be a much better thing to say than what Winfield said about Favre in November 2006, as discovered in the PFT archives by Tom Curran.

Explaining why the Vikings played so much zone defense against the Packers, Winfield said that "[w]e played a lot of zone, thinking that Brett was going to throw the interceptions that he usually does."

It's probably not a good idea for Winfield to mention that one.  But maybe he should have a response ready if Brett does.

Daily Norseman Couple of comments..

I have been reading alot of post all day on here and some things caught my eye. With the new signing of Winfield and Allen there has been some talk of maybe they already know what they are doing with Favre. I would believe that too. Also, this Ed Werder story is a bunch of crap and hoenstly i dont believe anything in it. Its all ratings for that story. Maybe they think we are really that dumb? We also have LEADERS of the team telling him to get his butt here and help them win a SB. Any ways, that just kind of caught my eye and maybe we did it because we know our space in the cap room for Mister Favre.

Daily Norseman Tired of all the negative comments

Well since there was a tired of the Favre talk, i thought id start a tired of all the negative comments post. Some of you people dont understand that ALL of the negative things he hears about him ( and we know he does) makes him work even harder to get back and show all of you up. Also just getting back to Hughes the high school kid from Oak Grove that ESPN interviews says Favre is looking better then he did when he went and through down there last year. I just get sick of everyone downing a guy that everyone of you have respect for down deap in your heart some where.
