Twinkie Town Rochester Celebrates 10 years of affiliation by immortalizing Dustin Martin on a Magnet

This is the 10th year of the Twins and Rochester having an affiliation. During this time the Redwing have had a lot of success and have seen great players play on their field. As the article mentions

"The relationship has produced five winning teams for Rochester in nine seasons with one trip to the Governors' Cup finals - plus two league ERA leaders (Scott Baker, 2005; Kevin Slowey, 2007)...three IL Rookies of the Year (Jason Kubel, 2004; Francisco Liriano, 2005; Randy Ruiz, 2008)..one league strikeout leader (Boof Bonser, 2005)...one league wins leader (Dave Gassner, 2004)...and two batting titles (Kubel, 2004 and Ruiz, 2008)."

Who made the cut of the 10 all time Rochester greats during their twin's affiliation? The list after the jump

Hardy compares his experince with Baltimore vs the Twins. We learn its not just Gardy who preaches "go the other way" its ingrained in the whole organization.

Money quote:

"My first round of BP with the Twins, I was trying to (pull the ball), and Rod Carew and those guys call me over and say, `That’s not we want. We want line drives the other way,"’ Hardy said. "So that was my approach for the Twins."

My concern is will the Twins try this with Willingham?

If La Velle is right (and he is often wrong) the Twins only bullpen signing is Matt Capps and the only FA pitching acquisition is Marquis. So they did not address their poor pitching staff and bullpen, but they did get better from the right side of the plate, and did get better defensively.
I am pretty disappointed as the FO sold 3 Million tickets last year and if they would have spent 8 - 10 million more they could have had some good bullpen arms and maybe stretched things to get a quality starting pitcher. That would've reduced the sting of losing Cuddy, Kubel and Nathan.

A decent little blog post with some nuggets on Cuddy as a person behind the scenes.
But of course LaVelle repeats his Mauer digs which I have heard him say on the radio about Joe not being a leader, always in the whirlpool instead of lifting weights, hiding in the clubhouse, etc etc etc.
Its not just Souhan who seems to blame Joe for everything! Hopefully Mauer proves these folks wrong and gets back on the HOF track!

Twinkie Town Smith did not deserve what he got (or) Did Mauer get Smith fired?

Smith did not deserve to get fired today. I never thought I would type those words. Not only because I have been a big critic of Smith but I never though he would actually get sacked. However he was not fired for his trades, signings or alcoholism but was fired because he was too loyal.

E-Town Pitcher Todd Van Steensel gives a nice inside perspective on the Mashing done by Sano and Rosario.

These two are young and in rookie ball so it will be several years before we know how they turn out, but right now they look like future all stars.

If "battled injuries" and "couldn't stay healthy" are justifiable reasons to trade / DFA someone, shoulldn't Bill Smith trade Mauer and Morneau?

Maybe the Royals have a Single A reliever who can throw the heat. I'll be they could use Mauer.

Do you think Bill Smith should throw in Morneau with Span so we could entice the Nationals to trade Storen?

In the quest for positive feelings toward my fav organization i had to dig into E-town videos
Here is one of Sano hitting an HR
Looking forward to watching him develop

As usual Bill Smith procrastinated and fantasied about trading Span for relievers before he finial settled on trading Delmon for another future reliever.
Once he got that out of the way he could focus on signing the top three picks which he did in the nick of time
Levi Michael
Travis Harrison
Hudson Boyd
Welcome to the fold

Minnesota Twins, whose eagerness to fill their bullpen at the expense of their lineup is so antiquated, so backward, so very silly that the idea they almost did it twice in a row makes GM Bill Smith look like he’s in over his head. Turns out his insistence on the inclusion of Storen torpedoed the deal, which, funny enough, makes the Twins winners. Sure, they didn’t get rid of Jason Kubel(notes) or Michael Cuddyer(notes). With just 6½ games separating them from first place and a lineup of underachievers they’re hoping will break out, Minnesota didn’t need to.
Can't say I disagree

Calls Mauer Injury Prone, calls all MLB players overpaid, complains about the Media and says the press should lay off Mauer. And somehow he lumps Ayn Rand into it.

Did he get promoted right after coming back from injury? Any chance this points to Hicks moving to AA

One of the best Minor League / prospect analysts reviews the Twins Draft. He gives a player-by player review of the top Ten Picks. "Overall, I think it is a solid class though not ground-breaking."
He reviews the rest of the AL central too, check it out:

Pat Neshek's last 10 games:
11 IP
13 SO
1 ER
6 BB
He has been up and down between the Majors and AAA but that has more to do with NL teams needing more bench help. Dumping Neshek when the Bullpen was a major weakness remains one of Bill Smith's dumbest blunders. Right up there with the Delmon / Garza / Bartlett trade.
Would the season be different if Smith did not do this? Probably not, but it might mean one or two more wins and less Jim Hoey

Twinkie Town Outdoor Baseball in Early April

April 8th is coming fast.  Yikes.

Twins have a good but not great rotation, nice looking offense, lots of questions in the Bullpen, another question mark at SS and a weak defensive OF.  But outside of those problems, I am pumped for the season and can't wait to watch a great season and dream of a WS victory (but hey I will take a PLAYOFF victory.)

To satisfy my regular season jones'n I decided to to check on Target Field this morning.  I snapped a few pictures with my phone.  It made slightly less excited for baseball.

Bring your shiver on folks and bring your Twins Snuggies! Its going to be cold,    I am glad I bought my tickets in May.

PMac is kicking out the content at 1500's website. If you want constant updates, video, pictures go there. Way better than the Strib.
Its awesome to see PMac doing well. If they would just get rid of that Garage Logic garbage, I would never listen to KFAN

Pretty cool.
Lots of interviews and fun to see/get to know some of the guys who many of us only know as Stats. - Too bad they are playing so poorly this year.

Twinkie Town Neshek to AAA - Is Crain or the Dr.'s to blame?

Jesse Crain and the Twins shoddy medical staff strikes again.  Neshek was declared healthy, activated but then he was optioned to AAA.  Gardy is obviously still bitter that Neshek had the audacity to shine some light on the fiasco that is the twins medical staff.  Gardy's pettiness comes out in this quote:

"He's just like everyone else in the Minor Leagues now," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "He's got to pitch his way back up. When there's a need, he'll get an opportunity -- if he's the one throwing the ball good."

http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100605&content_id=10848358&notebook_id=10848360&vkey=notebook_min&fext=.jsp&c_id=min

Apparently he feels the need to have 3 lefties, and Crain over a pitcher who was borderline dominate before getting injured.  That's fine, but why he does not hold his players like Crain and Harris to this standard is beyond me.

As Twins Geek pointed out Neshek was screwed by the medical staff.

http://twinsgeek.blogspot.com/2010/05/what-is-going-on-with-dl.html

Now he is probably counting the days that he is out of the Twins control so he can go pitch for a team that does not hold petty grudges for pointing out ineptitude.

Twinkie Town Mijares almost ready

Barring any setbacks, the Pioneer Press reports that Mijares could be back on the big leagues by Monday.

Mijares has shown that he has stopper stuff and came up big for the Twins last year.  Most Twins fans should be excited to get him back.  But who goes down on Monday?  Its seems likely Burnett  will find himself on the plane back to Rochester.  Burnett has pitched well in the role of mop up guy.  In 12 IP he has 8 BB, 14 K 3.75 ERA and a slightly high WHIP of 1.58. He has proved that he can get big league hitters out and allowed for Brian Duensing to succeed in high leverage situations.   Does this mean Crain goes to "Mop Up" duty?

Det is 1 game behind, they are the hottest team in baseball and Twins have some major injuries.

Time for the Twins to step on their throats and sweep.

He wrote about Mauer is one injury away from losing at least $100,000,000, went through his injury history and even question the wisdom to signing him to a long term contract. Am getting stupider or is someone else writing his articles?

Twinkie Town The Rene Tosoni of Twins Blogs

Yours and mine fav spot for commiserating the loss of Joe Nathan, and wondering about Joe Mauer was ranked #9 out 62 twins blogs.

Though it might be better to be Sano/Hicks/Gibson, I think its better to be ready to make the next step.

Not bad!
http://www.newsbobber.com/twins_blogs.php

Its also a nice list to go through to find new Twins info too!  Some of the blogs I have never seen before.
