Should Angels Trade for Papelbon?

There are already talks of the Red Sox dangling Jonathan Papelbon in a trade this winter and replacing him with Daniel Bard.  In return, they would supposedly want a "young bat".  Could the Angels take a look at acquiring him?  We don't necessarily have a "lights out" closer any more, so this report intruiges me.  Even considering his crap-job on Sunday, he's a pretty damn good closer.

Of course, the Red Sox would ask more from the Angels than they would from other teams.  However, do you think a package starting with Brandon Wood, Sean O'Sullivan, and Mark Trumbo turn the Boston heads?

Note: Papelbon could possibly be turned back into a starting pitcher if needed.

Season Ticket Prices

Hey guys.  Our family is looking into buying Season Tickets for the 2010 Season, but we don't really know how it works.  We are specifically looking for Field Box Seats.  We called the Ticket Office today, but they weren't too helpful.   Do any of you have any more information on the process of buying seats, the cost, or just any insider tips on how to get good seats? Hope you can help!

Thanks a lot!

A major ESPN Baseball Tonight analyst realizes the Angels' talent and puts it into a written document. PROOF THAT THE EAST COAST BIAS IS STARTING TO CHANGE (even just a little bit)!

Well....there goes another option. Looks like Ninja is going to have to work quickly if he wants to get something done.

"Pitching" Ideas (Pun Intended: Both Ways)

Seeing that it may not be possible to acquire a front-line starter such as Halladay or Haren, I have come up with a few possibilities that may appeal to a few teams.  I imagine that some move will be made by Reagins to trade/sign an innings eater.

#1: Gil Meche (KC) - Signed for $24 Million over the next two years; NTC expires after this season

I think Meche would be a great addition to the rotation.  He could probably be had for GMJ (swapping contracts) and a mid-level prospect, like Stephen Marek from last year's Tex trade.  Their contracts are very similar.  Both are on the  hook for two more years and their NTC's expire after the season.  The only difference is Meche still has $24 Million left compared to Matthews' $23 Million.

Words of J.P. Riccardi....etc.

He will LISTEN if he is blown away by an offer: Which means he will only ask for more after.

He also said he would want a bigger haul than Texas received for Tex in 2007 from the Braves.  However, remember that Texas also received a left-handed reliever from the Braves.

And we do have confirmation that the Angels asked about him.  Mike Sciosia told the media before the game that Reagins DID in fact contact the Jays about Doc.  http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/07/more-halladay-chatter.html

Lastly, regarding the potential pitching rotation of Halladay/Lackey/Saunders/Weaver/Santana...I don't believe that Lackey will resign after the season if the deal for Halladay/Haren/other ace is made.  We all know that he wants to be the ace of the staff.

I came across this site while I was looking for the 2011 Free Agents List (which I did not find). It has the stats for the Angels for every spot in the batting order. In my opinion, the best spot was the cleanup spot. You can also see the stats by positions. Enjoy

Baseball Prospectus' top 25 players to build a team around. Sadly, there aren't any Angels in the top 25 though. There are three in numbers 26-50. Lackey (49),Kendrick (44), and Teixeira (38)

No Angels were Honorable Mentions.
