Someone has to answer for this
When your pitching staff goes south for a month, where is the outrage for the pitching coach Curt Young? Oh I know, there were injuries to the staff, but look at the Cardinals and their injuries and where are they now; IN THE PLAYOFFS. The fact is the whole staff went south, not just a few. That rests on management shoulders. Someone needs to be held accountable for this complete collapse. Let's see what happens in the next month. Guess I'll be watching the Yanks and Rays playing playoff baseball. Feels like old times again; MAN THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pitching coach
It's been a while since I visited the site so forgive me if this is redundant. When is it time to wonder about Curt Young's abilities to manage the pitching? A team 4.99 ERA is tough to swallow. I know that Beckett seems to be recharged, Paps seems to have forgotten last year so far, and Lester is who he is regardless off who coaches him, but the rest of the staff seems to be heading south, in particular Bard.
Papelbon is toast
3.92 era as a closer? Do we need any more proof. He is officially now dead wood on the trading block. Next we will find out he has been playing hurt all season and has not told anyone. Kind of like that person who fakes an illness to get out of something he will fail at. Guess i need 75 words to post here so I am just taking up space. I feel my point has been made without all the extra words needed.
Killing Paps value
As they continue to parade Paps out there to blow saves and get beat up, they decrease his trade value. Make Bard the closer, save Paps arm and put him on the block. Tito has too much trust in this guy. I know he has been invaluable for a while, but this is a "what have you done for me today" business. It's time to set up for 2011 with your current roster and see what fits where, 2010 season is done. The Rays and Yanks are not folding and this team is not going on a tear. Time to smell the coffee
.
Cracks in the armor
I love my Bosox, and that is why this season is driving me crazy. It looks like Beckett is either still hurt or dead armed, or washed up. You know my thoughts on Paps if you read recent post (trade him while he still has value, don't wait till he is poison). Injuries have been rampant but I don't know honestly if that would have made a big difference considering the Yanks and Rays were a better team before the injuries. The young stars are there for a resurgence but this may be the winter that Theo will have to show us his real genius or risk being left behind.
How many blown saves does paps have?
The boy is losing it. He has 2-3 good games for every bad one. That may be good for a starter, but for a closer it is horrific. His act of pursing his lips and staring down the batter has gotten old because he is not as effective as he once was. May be time for Bard to step in and think about getting a quality player for third next year while he has some value. One more year like this and his trade desirability will start tanking if it has already not.
Goin Nowhere signs
If we don't start winning some games away from Fenway we are sitting watching someone else play in October. Mark my words on that. This has been a season long problem and responsibility for it lies with the management first. I understand this is a seasoned team with clutch players but why do we leave all those positive attributes in Boston. The comfortable confines of Fenway can't be duplicated, but a team with this talent should AT LEAST be .500 away from "The Park". If you know the reasons why; fix it. If you don't know why; find out. If you can't find out; you're not qualified for the job. At this rate you all should be making your tee times for October 3rd now because that is where you are headed.
