A Tale of the Tape: Bush versus Galbreath

While looking over statistics, I noticed Tony Galbreath had played exactly five seasons with the Saints, so I decided to run a comparison between he and Reggie Bush.

What the Mock?!?!!

Since I'm sure we've all had our fill of reading about who the Saints SHOULD take in this year's NFL Draft, I thought it might be fun to throw together one horrifically bad mock.  Five...

Latest WalterFootball.com Mock has Bowers tumbling to 24th

2

A big drop for Da'Quan Bowers. Bowers had a miserable Pro Day. His measurables were terrible, and he fatigued quickly in the drills. The medical recheck confirmed major concerns about his knee. He could fall out of the first round all together. But this is a good spot for Bowers. The Saints need help on their defensive front, but it's not like they'd need Bowers to contribute right away. They can afford to take a chance on a prospect with immense upside, and Bowers has the size New Orleans likes in its defensive ends.

Look ma! I can mock, too!

 24.  Mikel Leshoure, RB Illinois  - It's been said that the Saints shouldn't spend a first round pick on a RB, unless it's a player with the potential to be perennial Pro Bowler.  In my opinion...

New Orleans Saints bring back 3-4 defense, and Jonathan Vilma's all for it

11

This article is from last season and does a pretty good job of dispelling the all-too-common notion that Gregg Williams operates under a cookie cutter mentality, when it comes to certain defensive schemes and/or personnel. Two excerpts of particular interest: "I don't call the game from a piece of paper, " said Williams, repeating one of his favorite mantras. "You have to take a look out there and try to be the quarterback too. That's what we do on defense. We've got 27 ways to add up to 11 (players on the field). I came up with another one last night." Williams scoffed at the notion that Vilma is less effective in a 3-4 than in a 4-3. "He's a football player, " Williams said. "If I had to worry about that, I'd never play him because I play him in a 3-4, 3-3-3-2, 4-1, 4-2, 4-3. What he needs to worry about is when I don't play with any linebackers. That's what he needs to worry about." After reading this article, do you TRULY believe the Saints will rule any defensive player out, based strictly on the scheme their team ran in college? Of course not. Williams isn't about to pigeon hole anyone. He's inevitably going to pursue the best all-around athletes. Guys who can excel in as many of those 27 schemes as possible. One would think that after we just won a Super Bowl by thinking outside the box, more Saints fans would be hip to this newfangled open door ideology. Why are so many reluctant to move past the old "square peg in a round hole" mental block when an entire roster full of players -- including the former poster child for the cause (Vilma) -- has unconditionally embraced it? I guarantee you, there's less than a handful of defensive players being ruled out by the Saints in this draft, based strictly on scheme compatability. The only red flags of that nature are inevitably going to be players that switched schemes at some point during their collegiate career ... outright sucked in at least one of them ... yet excelled enough in another to still get noticed. That, or they've expressed a reluctance to learn a particular scheme during player interviews. Otherwise, they're all going to remain on the radar, until they're ruled out for some other unrelated reason, they're selected by another team ... or the Saints reach their training camp roster maximum (which is still 80 players, if I'm not mistaken).

Lovie Smith on Alex Brown: It won't be the same

It was good for me It was good for you Now nothing either of us can say or do Can change the way you feel tonight Sometimes love just slips out of sight Just one thing before you go Just one thing that you've got to know No one will ever touch me that way The way that you did that very first day And I'll Never be the same without you here I'll live alone Hide myself behind my tears And I'll Never be the same without your love I'll live alone Try so hard to rise above The years go by There's always someone new To try and help me forget about you Time and again it does me no good Love never feels the way that it should I loved you then I guess I'll love you forever And even though I know we could never stay together I think about how it could have been If we could just start all over again It was good for me It was good for you Now nothing either of us can say or do Can change the way you feel today Sometimes love just slips away
