I could use some help guys. I have this picture here...

via www.productionninja.com

Second from the left is my grandmother, and the person on the far right is my grandfather... they are playing cards with some friends outside of Wrigley Field prior to game four of the 1945 World Series.

The picture was in the Chicago Sun on October 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th in 1945... all my dad has is one copy of it that they clipped out of the paper. Obviously after 60 plus years it's not in the best shape. I was thinking that for his birthday this summer I would try to track down an original.

Does anyone have any idea where I would start?

It's time to reflect on another positive that the end of the season brings...

I don't know about all of you, but I relieved and thankful that this season is over and we can finally put this nightmare behind us.

This has been one of the hardest Cubs season to sit through in many many years, just because it seemed to repeat itself over and over again, you could almost predict when it was going to happen.

You may think that I'm talking about injuries to starting pitchers, or perhaps to a blown save by Ryan Dempster, or even a bonehead move by soon-to-be-former manager Dusty Baker...

... but you would be wrong. I od course am talking about that stupid Goldenpalace.com commercial with Dennis Rodman that kept showing up on WGN during Cubs games.

Here's hoping that the sales folk at the Superstation work overtime and we aren't forced to sit through Jason Giambi selling deodorant, or Dennis Rodman trying to get us to gamble.

What is it with all of the middle age players this year?

Certainly there are the obvious examples of Julio Franco and Roger Clemens, but doesn't it seem like there are many more players hanging around into their 40's with some success lately?

Steve Finley, Jamie Moyer, Kenny Rogers, David Wells, some kid named Maddux, even Barry Bonds. It seems like these days players just don't want to retire. Is it ego? People think they can get closer to the Hall of Fame if they can put together a few good seasons? Better conditioning? Money?
