Rocky Top Talk Holy beatdowns

So, two of the "leading candidates" for the UT coaching job got throttled this weekend in big games. The UNC-NCST came wasn't huge nationally but I assure you my friends who are NCST alums want to win one game more than any other each year and that is the one.

How does this affect our search? Does Leach lose some ground? Have people come to realize that UNC isn't that good and Butchy isn't all that? Even though this year has been horrid on the field, I like the comfort I have known with UT each year. What I mean is, I always knew what I was going to get with Phil.

And for the record, I am doing voodoo chants and learning black magic do to all I can to make Del Rio not be the UT coach. I seen enough bad Jags games this year to know better.

Rocky Top Talk One down

At least this guy is off the board, I had no interest in him whatsoever for UT.

I was talking to a colleague(huge gator fan) and he thinks we are going to end up with Zook. He is a moron in more than one area. I am going to let the air out if his tires at lunch and put a big orange T on his car.

Rocky Top Talk My how quickly things change...

I was just reading through this old post about the clawfense, on this very site...

http://www.rockytoptalk.com/2008/8/5/587003/the-clawfense-complicated

I can't help but be caught up by phrases like...

"it is apparently a spready-type, West Coast-ish (emphasis on the "-ish") thing. It's also apparently quite complex."

and

"Even if it's merely difficult for the players to grasp, there could be a steep and long learning curve, which could signal serious trouble considering our early, front-loaded schedule."

So that is exactly what happened. So is this a case of the wrong personel for the job? Is the system that bad? Did Phil keep it from working by being conservative? If someone like Leech comes in what would be the difference? Are we willing to give some one outside of UT a few years to build an offense, but not extend that same offer to Phil? If our current OC could recruit his type of QB and skill players would this be a formidable team in say 3 years?

Just food for thought.

Go Vols!!

Rocky Top Talk Trooper Taylor

Whomever the new head coach is at UT an effort needs to be made to bring back Trooper Taylor. I think the lack of emotion on the field has a ton to do with him being gone. Also the fact that he is working with a great offense in OSU and is a wonderful recruiter should be considered. He isn't ready to be a head coach, but maybe an offensive coordinator.

Agree or disagree?
