http://www.sbnation.comhttp://www.sbnation.com/users/copes006 Posts made by copes006 on SB Nation http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2009/7/12/946560/ot-disco-demolition-30-years-after copes006 Sun, 12 Jul 2009 12:57:33 -0000 <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>July 12, 1979</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>It was a bad day for baseball but a memorable evening for a group of 17 year olds.&nbsp; Some of my high school football teammates decided to go at the last minute after our summer workouts.&nbsp;&nbsp;We packed into one car and made our way to&nbsp;old Communist Park to watch Steve Dahl blow up disco records.&nbsp; I helped myself to one of my sister's 45s (Disco inferno by the Trammps) to get a discounted ticket.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Since our seats were in the nosebleeds, we were some of the last to storm the field.&nbsp; The unbridled teenage enthusiasm vanished at the sight of Chicago's finest in riot gear.&nbsp; We retreated rapidly.&nbsp; When a guy ran past our section with an armload of sod, I knew the second game was history.&nbsp; I still feel bad for the family who sat in front of us: they were there for baseball,</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>With that said, are there any other BCBers who were at the Demolition?&nbsp; Any fond memories (or repressed bitterness)?</p> <p><br /><br /></p>
