Well as far as it being an open competition, the players have been told that it is going to start out with Jenkins as the starter and Scandrick as the guy who will try to unseat him.

Lions had no offseason lifting program - Roy Williams work ethic angle

The column is from nflfanhaus, the link is below. The basic premise is that the lions never had a weight conditioning program during the offseason. A source who is listed as an acquaintance to RW said that he never lifted during the offseason.

The article is defintely news during one of the slowest periods in the sports calendar, couple that with the fact that it is the cowboys, and the last one would be that this feeds the TO/RW connection that is going to be driven like a tent stake, mercilessly into the ground even after the season starts. Read the article and see what you make of it, it will most likely be one of three camps: RW is not going to work out and this is a sign of that, he was in detroit which is a den of FAIL so this is the result, and now that he is in dallas he knows that this is his chance to prove how good he really is. I am sure there are other thoughts that this article may spark but those are probably the main three. I will say that sofar this offseason he has taken the right approach in getting in his work with TR a full month before the OTA's and mini camp started. I do believe he is taking this opportunity seriously, that he has a lot of pride to show what he can do. I wonder how much being in Det affected his attitude, because if this story is true then he was not given a disciplined structure to develop behind.

I will make the point that the article utilizes a source listed as an aquaintance, so he could be the janitor for all we know. RW weighed 220 lbs in 08 and is trying to get back down to 212; I have no idea if 8 lbs is a lot of weight for a WR to have, or if that weight was an indication of a lack of conditioning. Personally, I am going to give RW a pass for his past from Det and focus on what he is doing in this offseason with dallas and hope that he can be a very productive WR and build a strong connection with Romo.

http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/06/22/mmqb-williams-didnt-lift-as-a-lion/

Wade taking a firm hand to overweight players wallets

Well here is the 1st sign that WP is taking the accountability approach seriously when it comes to this year's team preparation.

http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/06/wade-phillips-puts-some-weight-behind-hi.html

The above link is a story from the DMN about how WP will assign each player a mandatory weight that they have to maintain; and if a player is found to be overweight then that player will be charged a league maximum $453 per pound. Remember that when BP was coaching the collective barganing agreement allowed for higher fines; WP is under the current one that has a lowered maximum on fines. I doubt that all fines are set at a max of $453, but this may have more to do with the type of team fine rather than any fine results in a $453 penalty.

In the same event that JJ spoke about pacman he also talked about another FA named jones.

Apparently JJ has no interest in Matt Jones but was reconsidering pacman. I think a commentor on this subject had the right idea, he wanted some pub, he was feeling good on the opening of his new stadium and just let the idea hang out there. I would personally be disappointed if pacman came back because I do not know how he can reassure anyone in that lockerroom that he will be someone they can depend on.

Does JJ want Pac-man back?

This is an article from the Ft. Worth Star Telegram.

Say it ain't so JJ, you would actually consider bringing Pac-man back. I will state this, maybe he was a little drunk during the concert, or was in denial to think that considering a move like that to be a good one. Hopefully the coaches and stephen come in to have an intervention to keep JJ from drinking from the crazy straw again. The article did say that he considered it a long shot, but if he was serious about bringing AJ back he must really want to have a one of his FA gambles pay-off. I think he was just feeling so good after having his stadium open and the feeling of success of the 1st event in the new stadium must have gone to his head a little.

http://www.star-telegram.com/332/story/1419956.html

Calvin watkins has an addendum to the news that JJ does not want pacman back; it kinda explains why JJ would do this and it makes sense that since he was feeling so good he wanted to try and help out pacman.

http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/06/08/report-pacman-could-rejoin-cowboys/
