Powell back to offense
According to Joepa presser. Seems like a case of he knows something the rest of the world doesn't, since they are moving the expected nickel back to #4 wideout (assuming he will not pull a Troy Brown). Personally, I'm not a fan of this move. However, I guess either the Drake injury is worse than expected, the young receivers are not as good as thought, the young secondary guys are really good, or a combination thereof.
Bowden Interview
There is nothing earth-shattering in this article. I clicked on it to see if there was a hint as to when Bobby is going to start looking for a new D1 coaching gig. However, I found two points mildly amusing. First, the article refers to the "revelation" that Bowden felt he was being phased out after FSU gave Fisher the big contract in ’07 with the $5 million if he was not the coach by 2010….no sh*t Bobby, that’s what a succession plan is. Second, I absolutely LOVE the fact that Terry and Tommy were there for the interview. Terry must be surgically attached to daddy’s coat tails. I wonder if there is a page in Bobby’s book displaying Terry’s resume and an employment wanted ad.
Rivals has their B10 preview up
Exactly what you would expect, complete with way too much Wisconsin love. I think someone who knows nothing about football could produce this page with a few media guides and google searches. However, I like looking at these because it means football season is almost here.
The Commercialization of the Spring Game
As we approach the Blue White game, I got to thinking about the fledgling evaluation of the commercialization of the spring game and the general direction of where things are headed. Five years ago, the Blue White game, for example, was broadcast on local TV, usually airing at some ridiculous hour like Sunday morning at 10am. This year, Penn State joins the ranks of a number of other high-profile universities with a game broadcast live and nationwide. My question is, where do we go from here?
Commercialization evaluation:
Step 1 – national TV – already there
Step 2 – networks pressure schools for competitive games
In Alabama’s scrimmage this year, Saben chose to play starters as well as prominent players for a large portion of the game. For example, Ingram was featured by one team’s offense and Richardson by the other. McElroy, the starting quarterback, also played his fair share. Compare this personnel usage to Penn State, where Royster will probably not even suit up, Green will see little action, and if we had a solid starting QB like we did last year, he would also not even dress. Now, I am not accusing Alabama of anything here, but when will the networks exude pressure on the universities involved to put a competitive product on the field? Could non-Penn State fans be enticed to watch a game featuring starters, punt returns, and a clock that stops on change of possession? We may be a few years away from this eventuality, but if TV networks dangled a few extra dollars for a competitive game, the schools would surely oblige (Penn State under Paterno would probably not and that’s why he’s awesome).
Step 3 - NCAA approves scrimmages against other teams
My question here is, are we really that far off? The schools would be for it ($), the networks would be for it ($), fans would be for it (thinking that schools would not shy away from quality opponents given the meaninglessness of the game) and the players would probably be for it. The only opponents would be the coaches, since they would have to waist practice time preparing for an opponent versus working on fundamentals. With the proponents mentioned and potential money involved, who could stop this from happening?.... godaddy.com Penn State vs Oklahoma spring classic here we come
Banning the 3-point stance?
Although this is an NFL issue, if the NFL did ban the 3-point stance I'm sure there would be a trickle down to college eventually. Now, on to the absurdity of this idea. After all the studies and debate, their idea is to ban the 3-point stance? That's like trying to cut down on traffic deaths by banning manual transmission.
If they really wanted to do anything about concussions, why don't they make every player wear a big goofy helmet like that safety for the Bills did back in the early 90's.
Times are Tough at USC
The economic issues facing the country are even affecting USC's running back compensation. Bush got a house, McKnight only gets a three year old SUV.
Did I miss John Elway out there?
This Pryor praise is oddly similar in my mind to the view of #14 after the Outback Bowl in '07 when people were saying "OMG, he threw for 187 yards and no interceptions, he has finally turned the corner"
Stupar injured too...

Poor Urban doing his best
Articles like this one I find annoying because they convey a completely different tone than similar pieces geared towards Penn State. Poor Urban is a tough disciplinarian, but kids will be kids. A kid being a kid is smoking in your apartment, drinking underage, and getting into a drunken fight. Pulling an AK-47 out of the trunk of your car and firing it into the air is in a whole different category. At Florida, Chris Bell would still be on the team.
Linebacker U
Scrolling past fat Charlie's picture, there is a nice shoot down of some guy contending that Florida State should be considered linebacker U.
Collegian Article
This article sheds some light on the situation, meaning although Koroma and Evans may not have been there, they are the ones in trouble.
