Has anyone played MLB 2K12 yet? I was considering buying it this year for the new stadium, but I wanted to make sure the new stadium has been modeled first. I was also curious if our previous uniforms are available as "throw backs" when playing. Has anyone played yet? What have been your impressions?

Fish Stripes Analysis of the New Uniforms

I'll say from the start that I think the Florida Marlins had the best uniforms in baseball, hands down. I also think the Miami Marlins have the worst. I'll take a look at the decisions made on the logo, lettering, and color choices to explain why these new uniforms fall short of their predecessors.

Fish Stripes Top Ten Sports Mascots

Billy gets some love:

10. Billy:

Billy the Marlin represents the Florida Marlins baseball franchise. He is considered to be an extremely funny mascot who is upto some prank or the other. He was first seen as the official mascot of the team in the year 1993. His name was kept simple so that kids could easily remember it. He has an official fan club to his credit. It is called the Billy’s Bunch and it is for kids upto the age of 12 years.

Fish Stripes Owners Talking Expanded Playoffs

Story

I'm on the fence about this one.  On the one hand, it rewards good teams that would just miss the cut as it is now. On the other hand, I think the nice thing about baseball is that we restrict the number of teams that make the post season.  Basketball and Hockey are a joke with more than 50% of the teams qualifying for post season.  I'm generally in favor of adding two more teams, but after that I think we have to stop it.  If we expand to 6 teams per league, we end up with 12/32 teams in the playoffs, and that's fine.  If we end up with 16/32 by going to 8 teams per league, I think it will detract from the playoffs.

Do you think this will take away from winning the division?  Do you think that teams will play with less intensity if they can fall back on additional wild card spots?  Or do you think this is going to make for much more exciting races down the stretch each year?

Poll
Do you think MLB should expand the post season?
Yes, but only by two teams per league (six each)

Yes, but two teams per league is not enough, we need more.

No, I like it the way it is.

The Phinsider Question for the Spiller Bandwagon

I'll admit right away, I'm not a believer in drafting Spiller with the 12th pick in this year's draft.  Yet that is.  I'm asking if any of you can convince me that Spiller is the best pick, for this year.

Fish Stripes Uggla to stick around for '10

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-marlinsspending&prov=ap&type=lgns

I'm sure there are some situations in which he would still be traded, but it's still nice to hear that we are at least promising to keep our talent around for a strong run.  Uggla's not my favorite type of player, but he fills a valuable hole in this team's production, and you can't say enough about that.  Here's to hoping we can keep him around after 2010 also.

The Phinsider I kinda don't care if we get a "#1 receiver"

Now I know that's a ridiculous and potentially dangerous thing to say around here, but I can't really see the pressing need for one.  Don't get me wrong, having a player with  the abilities of guys like Marshall or Boldin would be a great asset to any team.  I just think we have far too many holes to fill to trade away multiple players or draft picks to fill one need.

Fish Stripes Marlins looking at Smoltz?

Story Here

I suppose if Smoltz finds the NL more to his liking and can return to Braves-Smoltz form, that would be a good move.  He might benefit from the lack of a DH in the NL, and the more familiar environment.  He would have to come at a very low price for me to get on board with this experiment, but at the end of the day I'm just not convinced he has major league stuff anymore though.
