Rooting Guide for Texas Tech Fans on Saturday

Ok so as everyone is probably aware by now, Texas Tech has almost no chance to make it to the BCS game. Almost you say? Yes there is still a chance Tech could make it as the BCS at large bid. So since you might be confused on who to root for on Saturday, here is what Tech needs to happen to have a shot at going to a BCS game and not the cotton bowl.

Saturday December 6th

3 pm Florida vs Alabama (SEC championship)
Florida has to win this game but win ugly. Alabama needs to be winning by 14 or more going into the 4th and Florida makes a last minute win or tie and eventually pull it out in like the 5th overtime.

3:30 pm USC vs UCLA
USC needs to win and win big. I'm talking 63-3.

7 pm Oklahoma vs Missouri (Big 12 championship)
I have heard some talk about wanting OU to lose this game. No no no. OU cannot lose. If OU loses then they will drop out of the BCS games and probably push Tech out of the cotton bowl and into the holiday bowl. A Missouri win puts them into a BCS game and Texas would most likely go to the NC game. So we need OU to win and most likely win big so the loss to Texas earlier doesn't look as bad.

If and only if all three of these things happen then here is how the BCS standings might look like:

1 Oklahoma
2 Florida
3 USC
4 Alabama
5 Texas
6 Texas Tech (would also have to jump Utah but another week should do that)

So this would put Texas out of the top 4 and Texas Tech could be selected by the Fiesta Bowl because they would consider head to head in their decision. So start praying!

BCS Scenario

I posted earlier that OU winning the Big 12 championship puts UT and TTU fighting for the Big 12 at large bid. So now that OU will most likely go to the NC game, what happens now? Do we as Red Raider fans initiate a large scale 39-33 campaign which involves a flyover at the Big 12 championship game, websites, shirts, shameless lobbying by Mike Leach, and just an overall crybaby attitude?

The answer is NO. The great thing about being a Red Raider fan is the fact we don't do things like that. UT, OU, and TTU all had really great seasons. The way the system works when 3 teams tie and all beating each other there is no other way to decide on who goes where and plays who except subjectivity. UT had a great season and yes they did beat OU at a neutral field and they deserve some credit. So does Tech and so does OU. Let hold our heads up high and go into the cotton bowl and destroy either Ol Miss or Georgia. This is the year that the Big 12 surpasses the SEC and we need to root for OU in the NC game as well as UT in a BCS game. If either team loses and we win I am sure we will jump them in the final season polls which will show once and for all we are the best!

Here is my prediction for the BCS bowl games

NC game: OU vs Florida
Orange: Boston College vs Cincinnati (worst BCS game ever and fitting the two worst teams get to play each other)
Fiesta: Texas vs Ohio St
Sugar: Alabama vs Utah
Rose: Penn St vs USC (2nd best game behind NC game)

Let me know if you disagree.

Cotton Bowl?

I just read that the cotton bowl was interested in Tech for the annual New Years day bowl. Are you kidding me? I refuse to believe that Tech can have this magical season and be placed in a 10 AM bowl against a 7-4 Ole Miss team. Now don't get me wrong the Cotton Bowl is a respectable bowl game but after going 11-1 and beating 3 top 25 teams in a row and #1, it just doesn't seem right!

If OU wins then they will go to the Big 12 and most likely go to the NC unless an upset against Missouri. Now that leaves Tech and UT for the at large bid for a BCS game. This is where UT fans who clamored for the head to head game to matter comes into play. I do believe that Tech should get a at large bid over UT because yes we did beat UT 39-33, lest we forget.

If OU loses then it sends Tech into the Big 12 championship. If Tech loses then fine go ahead and send us to the cotton bowl with 2 losses. However, if Tech wins then there is only two possibilities in my mind and only one that can be made by any rational human being. 1) Tech wins and goes to the NC game. 2) Tech wins and goes to a BCS and Texas goes to the NC game. I really don't think I need to spend any time on why #1 makes the most sense.

So sorry UT. The only way you are sneaking into the NC game is if OU loses and then Tech loses in the Big 12 game. No matter how many stupid signs yall make.

So this clip is on the Texas Tech home page on ESPN. Apparently one guy thinks Tech is overrated and will lose 3 out 4 games starting with the Kansas game. His main argument is Tech hasn't played anyone. Remind me who Texas and OU have played so far??

Its typical ESPN saying something that is contradictory to what they said 5 minutes before hand. I am glad they are giving us the "overrated" tag because it will make Tech go into every game with a chip on its shoulders and that is something I think we need.

OU or A&M?

I only have enough money in my budget to go to one away game this year (of course that budget will increase to two if we make a BCS game) but I don't know which game I should go to, A&M or OU. So I am asking for your help.

I have never been to Norman. I know that isnt saying much but I would like to see what the OU campus looks like. This also could shape to be the big 12 south championship game if everything goes as planed. This also could be a top 5 game with Corso and gang showing up.

I went to the A&M game in 2006 and it was the best game I have ever been to. The silence that occured at Kyle Field after the Johnson touchdown was the greatest noise I ever heard. Also being a Tech fan in College Station is great too. Everyone hates you but they can't say anything because the comebacks that would follow would be unbearble for them.

So what do yall think, OU or A&M...

Leach on the hot seat?

I am sure this has been done before but I was bored and wanted to check on Leach's career at Tech...

Regular Season Record

60-34 .638 WP

Big 12 Conference Record

35-29 .547 WP

Vs Texas Record

1-7

Vs A&M Record

6-2

Vs Oklahoma Record

2-6

Bowl Record

5-3

So my question is do you think this is a hot seat kind of year for Leach? Lets say that Tech finishes 5-3 in the Big 12 and finishes 3rd in the south; do you think that is not good enough anymore? Personally I do not believe Leach is on the hot seat but after looking up those records it does beg the question. Wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were.

I don't know if this was ever mentioned but Texas Tech finished 44th in the annual Directors Cup which ranks schools based off 10 women and 10 men sports throughout the 2007-2008 school year. I believe Tech finished 7th overall among Big 12 schools.
