Every year there is one guy who slides down and down during the draft. do to spinal stenosis; a narrowed spine, Jones seems to be the guy that will likely slide this year. Some mocks even have him slipping outside of the 1st round, although I'm not so sure it will happen. IF, however, he does slip outside of the 1st round whats the spot where you would consider trading up for him and would you even want him?I think #14 in the 2nd round would be where id be interested.

With the teams lack of pass rushers, I think adding him as DE/OLB would help quite a bit, especially with Chandler Jones on the other side. Jarvis had 28 sacks, 9 forced fumbles the last two years and often makes bone shattering hits that earned him the nickname "Dawgbones Jones"

. My first move would be tore-sign Ross (3 yr, $22m) and Ortiz (2 yr, $23m) of course.

next trade for Gerardo Parra who is being shopped by the D'backs. They want pitching so i offer Aceves and a minor league pitcher or two. He's our new CF. Yup

I then sign torii hunter to a 2 year, $18m deal with the 1st year worth several more million than the 2nd. Kalish and Podsednick will be the backups. Kalish will get to start a decent amount of games to keep Hunter fresh and hopefully eventually become the full time starter.

id then offer up a 4-5 year $50m deal to Anibal Sanchez and improve our staff

trade Lackey and a minor leaguer to the Mariners for Figgins. No i dont think Figgins is great or anything but it actually saves the team several million and he can play SS. he's hit better on the road, no surprise and has always hit well at Fenway. In fact of all the stadiums he's played 20 or more games in, Fenway is the one he hits best in. Didnt play here last year but 2011 when he hit only .181 on the year he hit .308 in 4 games at Fenway. One of only two parks (comerica) where he hit above .250 that year. He can split time with Iglesias who i dont think will ever hit well in the majors.

next up is to trade Ellsbury to the nationals who have been looking for a CF for awhile now for Michael Morse and Jordan Zimmerman. (i realize minor leaguers will probably be added to the deal but im not sure who so...yeah)

C-Salty/Lavarnway

1B-Morse

2B-Pedroia

SS-Figgins/Iglesias

3B-Middlebrooks

DH-Ortiz

OF-Ross

OF-Hunter

SP-Zimmerman

SP-Sanchez

SP-Doubront

I know some wont like it but it's actually feasible IMO and gets the team younger and cheaper while still being competetive

Danny Ainge, Repeat Offender

Home alone, bored on a rainy day and so I decided to do a piece on Ainge's offseason tendancies but It kinda spiraled into something else.

Home alone, bored on a rainy day and so I decided to do a piece on Ainge's offseason tendancies but It kinda spiraled into something else.

Ainge is predictable with his FA pursuits. every year he goes after the same guys in trades and free agency. from guys he wanted to draft and on up.

based on this and comments made by him and doc im going to assemble next seasons team. first off is pierce, if he thinks ainge will trade him then i think he retires. if this happens then i dont see KG back either. however, i think pierce stays to finish his last year of the contract. thus, the team and KG agree to a 1 year deal for around $9m. thats the normal rate based on his age. although he may tell ainge where to go. ray wont be back based on comments from ray and doc that seem to suggest the team no longer wants him.

doc made a comment earlier in the year that he's not so sure JJ is a PF and may be a wing player. so i have him moving to SF next season.

Ainge tried to trade ray for mayo this year and also made a push for him last season. for this reason i think the team makes a strong pushn to sign him. may or may not get him but for this im going to assume he lands here. if he lands here, i think he give him a 3-5 year deal starting in the $6m range and going up each year.

the kings have made tyreke evans available and for those who dont know ainge tried to trade up to draft him on draft night. it never happened. he also tried to trade for him last year and this year. im going to assume ainge gets his man this year using a 1st rounder, future 1st.

going to assume bass doesnt opt out but i have a feeling he will.

stiemsma is a restricted FA who may get some good offers. if offer him a 2-3 year deal slightly above his qualifying offer, say $1.5m a season.

i think sean williams stays on for cheap, 1 or 2 year deal. no more than a million probably $700-800k range.

i have the team taking a big, in my mind either melo or ezeli. 2nd rounder would likely be a project PG/SG

that leaves us with like $3.7m in cap space. still needing a starting center unless the team uses KG there again which it could.
not much we could get with the money we have at this point (note: we werent getting hibbert, mcgee as they think they are worth max money) Asik, thompson are our best chances but teams may match those offers. we could always go project piece there to with anthony randolph, koufas kostas or even old buddy semih erden and go after howard or someone else next season when pierce and KG come off the books. im taking the latter, im going to pencil in randolph. his potential to run with rondo and block shots is intriguing.

this leaves us with two open roster spots which the team may fill with vet min deals, IDK.

C: randolph/steams/melo or ezeli
PF: KG/bass/williams
SF: pierce/evans/jj
SG: bradley/mayo/2nd round rookie
PG: rondo/mayo/2nd round rookie

very versatile team that doc could mix and match. not even sure pierce would start, he may come off the bench with mayo and bass making the second unit tough.

 <fieldset class="poll-box">
 <legend>Poll</legend>

In a world of flapjacks and hand grenades, how would you like this unit next season?

Love it, would be fun to watch and still has lots of room to grow

a restricted FA, im curious as to what fellow fans feel he is worth. whats the max offer you would match if a team were to sign him to an offer sheet?

a restricted FA, im curious as to what fellow fans feel he is worth. whats the max offer you would match if a team were to sign him to an offer sheet?

next season we are around $39.9m to start if pierce doesnt retire. add in the two 1st round draft picks and thats another $2.4m or so (we will leave out 2nd rounders for now as they are non-guarenteed) and we are at $42.3m. if the cap is $62m as ive seen rumored that leaves us $17.7m to spend.

add to this that i fully expect bass to opt out and try for a longer deal at more money so our cap space will likely drop even more. im 98% sure ray allen will not be back. KG i believe will be but will he take a ray like discount?

i expect ainge to draft 2 bigs in the draft, in fact if i had my say it would be fab melo and festus ezeli. ainge always seems to go after the same guys every year so i fully expect him to try and sign oj mayo. a trio of rondo, mayo, bradley could be a very good backcourt.

and so if a team offers stiemsa say 4 years $10m do you match? what would be your top offer for him if you were ainge?

myself i like him, he's developed a decent amount but i dont see him getting much better. he is what he is i guess you could say. the only think that i think might change is the refs giving him more slack next season. so i myself wouldnt offer him more than $2m a season or so

if there is no season what happens with the draft? do the teams stay in the same order as they drafted in 2011?

if there is no season what happens with the draft? do the teams stay in the same order as they drafted in 2011?

if this is indeed the case then BIG TIME SCORE for the celtics who have the clippers 2012 pick (top 10 protected) or minnys pick (not protected), which ever is worse. now the clippers had the top pick and the t'wolves had the 2nd pick. so the celtics could just say thank you, we will take the #2 pick. im not sure if it would stay in the same draft order or not so if somone knows, please, let us know.

this would open up a ton of senerios of who to take: drummonds, rivers, barnes, mcadoo, miller, jones, etc....very enticing and of course they would still have their own pick at #24.

this could also, be a very valuable trade chip if ainge does take a shot at dwight or some other star player....

so if we do end up with the 2nd pick and 24th pick what/who do you use them on? this could be a huge turning point in the youth movement of this team
