"Safe to say we will wear some brown"

+

I know this will make a lot of you happy. It's funny though, last season I was dying for some brown, but during the off-season I realized that I really liked the all-white. I am excited for some variation this season, but I think the new nike jerseys look better in white.

Browns Big Board

Lets talk Big Board. With all the draft talk out there, debating who we take when and where as well as how much we will give up to get there or gain by dropping back, we have not yet addressed the...

Draft Pick Value

11

I started thinking about how the Browns straight robbed the Falcons in the 2011 draft and it got me thinking about the value of picks in the draft. How do you determine draft pick value? How do you trade picks without giving up too much like the Falcons? What is the value of our picks this year? And, if and when we make a trade this year (up or down) how can I decide if it was worth it? After searching for answers to these questions on the internet I found this article and thought I would share.

Phill Dawson

3

Phill has to be one of your favorite Browns since A) he has been here the longest, B) is the only play getting us points consistently and C) he actually cares about the team. I liked this article and thought I'd share it.

Roster Changes After Alex Smith and Titus Brown go to IR.

1

We have a Gronkowski brother at TE and Brian Smith will finally be on the 53 man roster. After a decent performance in the preseason I thought he would make the team, it looks like he will have a chance to prove something against our division opponents in the last two games, espically since Fujita is out his chances are high to see some time. I doubt Dan Gronkowski will make much of a difference since we still have Moore and Cameron at TE.

Taylor Fined

4

$7500 for 'hitting' Henne. He plans to appeal the fine.

Fines don't add up

5

This links to an article at NFL.com referencing the fine Collin Jenkins got for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Matt Ryan. The interesting point brought up in this article is that Jenkins was fined 15K for a accidental h-2-h when his ex-team mate was only fined 10K for throwing punches during the season kickoff game. This sort of think makes you think... Who decides the value on the fines for 'unnecessary roughness' penalties? And, why aren't they trying harder to make the system fair? How long will it be until DQ Jackson (or any other Browns player) gets fined for a clean sack like the one he was flagged for in the pre-season? And, how excessive will the price tag be the next time TJ Ward clashes with a receiver in the end zone?

Another reason to be thankful for Haden

6

Haden is looking like a true shutdown corner. With the type of plays he had Sunday I doubt anyone would be surprised if he works his way to a pro bowl someday. Meanwhile Eric Berry (who we almost took with our first pick in 2010) is out for the season.

Roster down-sized to 80

6

Looks like Chris can make his 53 man roster projections a little early. The only somewhat unexpected player waved was WR Haggerty, although it isn't that surprising since he hasn't stood out that much towards the end of camp.

Hopefully this is the only game canceled. Earlier today reports came out saying that they would most likely cancel the game regardless of the lockout ending or not, now its official.

Josh Cribbs 84th best player of 2011

Last year he may not have lived up to our hopes and dreams, but when you watch this highlight real of his top plays your dreams will be rekindled. Here is to hoping Josh Cribbs has a great year in 2011.

Free Agents

4

If you're curious how the Browns might fill the holes remaining after the draft or just get some valuable depth, here is a unofficial list of possible free agents to be acquired post-lockout. I know they at least missed Vickers as a possible free agent, I'm sure there are a lot more not on the list.

Get to Know the Draftees

It starts out overly optimistic, as you would expect from Waiting For Next Year, but ends with some quotes from each player we drafted.

Heckert narrowed the 6th pick to two players

35

Obviously he's not saying any names but I would bet A. J. Green and Patrick Peterson. I would totally agree with his statement to trade down if those two are gone. But if thats the case who should we target?

Does a Low Wonderlic Score Hurt a Top Athlete?

North Coast Flea posted a "Fanshot" showing that two of the top ten draft prospects had two of the lowest five scores on the Wonderlic test. These scores were for WR A.J. Green (10/50 questions) and Patrick Peterson (9/50 questions). How much does a low score mean to a scout?

Rams Released Atogwe, Pricey but would Shurmur draw him to Cleveland

10

Most Browns fans are probably content with Ward at safety but there is some talk about grabbing another. Should the Browns look into getting a guy like Atogwe who has better stats and less injuries than Bob Sanders who was also just released. Atogwe played defense on the same Rams where Shurmur worked offensively. That is a slight connection considering they worked on opposite sides of the ball but it might be enough to get a conversation started. More importantly, the issue of dough. The Rams cut him because he was costing them too much of their salary cap, would he require too much of ours for a position that is no where near as desperate as the D-Line, WR, and RT. Are the Browns interested? Or is he to pricey?

Defensive Ends in Draft

This video lays out the top 3-4 and 4-3 DEs in the draft. Mayock says DE is by far the deepest class in the draft.
