I know that some of you on this site are not real big on advanced statistics, but this is an excellent breakdown, and it says a lot of really good things about Landeskog.

I'm not sure if this has already been discussed here (I've been away for a week or so for Thanksgiving vacation), but I find it rather strange and disappointing that Siemens didn't even get an invite. I know Pickard also wasn't invited, but I believe he might be too old (not sure on that one). Anyone know what's up with this?

A great article that was written during the 01-02 season, when Foppa took most of the year off after his spleen was removed before returning for the '02 playoffs. If you were following the Avs then, there was a great deal of anxiety among fans about if/when he'd return. This article captures that moment in time quite well.

This is kind of interesting. There are several other teams given the treatment here as well.

Mile High Hockey My 2011-12 Colorado Avalanche Preview

I've been seeing a few previews start to trickle in, so here's mine.  A big thanks to the community here, which is where I have derived a lot of the information.  If you're a hardcore MHH'er, there may not be much if anything new for you in this post.  But for a casual fan who is just trying to learn about the changes on the team heading into the new season, I hope it will be a good jumping off point.

This kind of thing may interest only me, but I was really impressed with Marchand in the playoffs and especially the SC finals, and thought to myself "I wish the Avs had a guy like him. I wonder where he came from?"

Turns out, he was drafted by Boston 71st overall in 2006, which was 12 picks after CO selected the esteemed Codey Burki with the 2nd-rounder they acquired from Calgary in the Alex Tanguay trade.

I understand you can't go back and say any particular prospect would have developed the same way in one organization as he has in another, but it sure lends itself to a bit of "what if..." speculation.

It's not like SoS is primarily a sniper, but it is what it is. Drury didn't qualify based on playing too few games.

Mile High Hockey If Forsberg comes back, does that put the Avs in "win now" mode?

It would seem to me the young Avalanche are still a few years away from true cup contention.  If Forsberg plays this year and next, as he reportedly wants to, would that mean the Avs have to look at that as their "window"?

If so, what changes need to be made?  I think they're still 2 or 3 defensemen and a goalie away from being a legit cup contender.  And is Sacco the guy who is going to lead them to a cup?

Mile High Hockey Avs draft history since 1995

This is a review of Colorado's draft history since they came to Denver in 1995-1996.  I analyze what I deem to be the team's successful picks as well as the oh-so-elusive "ones that got away".

Something similar to this has probably been done before on this site, but I'm a bit of a newbie here so if there's been a post like this one in the past, I haven't seen it.  Since doing this was fun for me, I did it.

Here is the scale I used to rate players (player ratings appear in parentheses after the player's name and all player ratings are just like my opinion, man):

5: Career depth player

4: Effective role player

3: Top-six forward/top-four defenseman/starting goalie

2: Top-line forward/#1 defenseman/upper-tier starting goalie

1: Hall of Fame potential

Got that?  OK, here we go:

I know this isn't Broncos-related, but it's a fascinating read for any fan. Amazing look into Manning's football genius.

"Scouts from 16 teams were sitting down the row from me at the Colorado vs. Detroit game Tuesday. The Avalanche would like to make a deal, presumably to move a defenseman." - Kevin Allen

"The Colorado Avalanche stared at the schedule early this season and saw Stanley Cup finalists Chicago and Philadelphia followed by perennial powerhouse Detroit. Gulp.

Fear not, the young Avs said, they'll take two out of three and announce to the world they're not going away after stunning the NHL last season.

That's the big picture.

Hidden within that glossy snap shot are a few interesting storylines that have played out here over the past few days with the Avs..."

Here's hoping he and Mueller both get better soon.

Altitude HD vs. Center Ice

Sorry if this is in the wrong place for this discussion, I'm not sure where else it would go. I don't live in CO. I was planning to get Center Ice via Comcast cable this season so I could catch all the Avs games, but in researching a bit online have found that not only is most of Center Ice not in HD on cable, but that DirecTV offers Altitude HD in one of their packages. This would seem to make DirecTV the clear choice. However, before I order it, I'm wondering...do any other fans not living in CO know whether getting Altitude HD would eliminate the need for me to order Center Ice, since all I'm really concerned with seeing are Avs games, not every game ever? Does Altitude HD show all Avs games not shown on VS.?
