Seahawks rebuilding effort
I just wanted to post a couple thoughts about the Seahawks mess because I think that a lot of people seem to be misunderstanding the situation we're in. (Or maybe I am, who knows.)
I believe it was the right before the 2008 season when we realized that our core players were getting old and we either were going to blow up the team or tough it out and add some players and try to keep the window open for a year or two more. IIRC, it was a conscious decision to add players and hope that Hasselbeck and Jones would stay healthy long enough to get it done again.
What happened is that the gamble didn't pay out. We all quickly forgot about the rebuilding part and thought we had a contender regardless. Well obviously we were hit by injuries over and over again, not just to the older players but to everyone.
When we stuck our necks out trying to extend that window we knew that this was the downside. Because we weren't going to add a replacement LT or QB. We had two pro-bowlers and we were going to try to run with them. If they get hurt, well we would of been rebuilding anyway.
I think the only real damage done here is that the fan's expectations would be too high. If it worked we would have expected it. If it failed, the drop in enthusiasm would be (is) brutal.
The good part is the team isn't in that bad of shape, no matter how much some of you want to imagine that. We have a lot of young talent, and really if we just use our drafts choices wisely (And Ruskell is a good drafter, don't pretend otherwise) we will finally get that LT and QB (and maybe a DT) to go along with our other young guys and have a real shot in the near future. Which would be a pretty short rebuilding timeframe if it works.
I'm not saying that everything went according to plan or worked out just right. I'm saying that there is a plan. Also I'm saying that Ruskell isn't going anywhere. (We'll see about Mora)

Chris Draft cut. Rams lose marbles.
I have to say that I'm pretty excited to hear that the Rams let Draft go 3 days before the opener with us. This can only provide a big distraction for the players on that team. He was a well-respected guy there and got cut pretty suddenly over a relatively small amount of money. (I think they wanted him to trim 380k off his 1.2 salary for '09?)
They just brought up the idea of a pay cut to him last week. Nice planning! He was supposed to start for them!
As a Rams player, would you really trust that your GM had a good plan for you if that just went on?
Thinking trade scenario
I think that the longer the Duckett deal sits incomplete the longer the chance is that we're making a trade.
Seattle needs a tackle for depth and possibly to start if Jones goes down and Locklear is not getting it on the left side.
Seattle clearly has a kicker to trade along with Duckett and very possibly Branch as well. This nets you a pretty good o-line guy in theory. (At least the salary for it.)
Drew Rosenhaus is in town and trades are easier when the players involved have the same agent. Rosnehaus only has a few tackles in his stable.
One of them is Jared Gaithers of the Ravens.
The Ravens need help, at least on paper to me, at kicker, rb, and wr.
The Ravens also have Michael Oher, who looks awesome so far and could easily end up taking over LT and Adam Terry who they also love but has been hurt the last couple years to take over RT.
So I'm obviously totally crazy and this will never happen, but maybe it's possible. Right? Maybe?
