Burnt Orange Nation Open Practices Thread

I think we need to get a thread going here for observations on the open practices.  I'll start, with a few random thoughts from last night's practice:

- Noticed a good number of downhill running plays, several of which resulted in about 5-yard gains.

- I agree that the backup QBs look even at this point.  Connor Wood does look like a quintessential QB, but Case is much more developed physically than Colt was at his age.

- Keenan Robinson was playing great, and seemed to have a great attitude as well.

- Mike Davis got some reps with the first group.

- Nolan Brewster looked like he wasn't feeling well.  In fact, a few of players seemed wiped out from the heat and insane humidity.

- Didn't see anything impressive from Chiles or Kirkendoll, but Goodwin and M. Williams looked good (despite a Williams drop. . .)

- Christian Scott had a couple of impressive hits, until Mack drew him aside presumably to say "ease off on your teammates!"  The dude is gonna be awesome.  So is Aaron Williams, who looked fantastic.

- Timmons showed ability to get open against the second group.

- Okafor is an impressive physical specimen.

- Gideon is obviously a great leader.

Really stupid quote: "Williams is the poster boy for all those overrated University of Texas players who go bust in the NFL."

MB-TF has been redesigned. Pretty slick. I could do without the Nissan Altima advertisement, though.

Burnt Orange Nation Leinart. What a guy.

I couldn't resist posting this article, which shows Leinart at the height of ridiculousness.  "Leinart facing scrutiny over Internet pics"

Burnt Orange Nation Sherrod Harris

Cowgirls' diary mentioning Harris got me thinking--

I'm interested to know what people think will happen with him.  Last August, he seemed like the front-runner, but then suffered the injury that pushed Chiles to the top. . .

Chiles clearly has a ton of athletic ability and can scare defenses, but Harris was considered a dual-threat QB, too.  Plus, he's rumored to be a better passer, and has an extra year of practice.

Will he continue to ride the pine at UT?  Transfer?  Amaze everyone this spring with his skills?

?  Thoughts  ?

Burnt Orange Nation "We're not playing together"

I couldn't help but notice the following Charles quote from yesterday's press conference:

"I don’t know why we’re not dominating, but we’re winning games still. We’re not playing together, but when we connect and when we play together you’ll see us. We’re not dominating right now, but we keep getting better and better every week."

Burnt Orange Nation 8/6/07 practice

Hi, I'm a new BON'er, and a budding Longhorn Football freak!  I've been reading this excellent blog for a couple of months now, and wanted to say hi and actually post something for a change.

I went to the first practice last night, and watched most of it.  It was the first time I'd attended a fall practice, and I was stoked to see so many fans and family members there, wearing orange, and cheering for their favorite players.  Once, a couple of kids sitting next to me hollered, "Sweeeeed, you the man!" and he flashed them a hook'em sign as he jogged by.  All in all, the vibe in the crowd was very good.

A couple of my impressions follow:
