Benoit Out First Half of Season (Maybe More)

Rangers RHP Joaquin Benoit had arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder Tuesday in Cincinnati.

* * *

"Joaquin was affected most of last season, and it didn't allow him to perform to his abilities," said Rangers GM Jon Daniels. "He attempted to rehab the injury this off-season. He worked hard but the results weren't there. From all accounts, the surgery went well and he can begin the process of strengthening his shoulder now."

JANUARY 12--A federal government lawyer who moonlighted as a statistician for Fox Sports improperly arranged for United States Marshals Service (USMS) deputies to drive broadcasters Troy Aikman and Joe Buck to the 2008 Super Bowl and lead motorcades for Buck and Tim McCarver during the 2007 World Series, according to a blistering report by the Department of Justice's inspector general.

[On Manny Ramirez:] The Texas Rangers are said to be "intrigued,'' according to one person familiar with their thinking. As a potential replacement for the departed Milton Bradley, "he's an excellent fit'' for them, one AL executive said. Unlike in Los Angeles or San Francisco, he could also DH for Texas.

Freddy Garcia is being pursued by the Mets, White Sox and Rangers. Garcia shut things down in the Venezuela Winter League but his MRI revealed no damage to his shoulder.

Rangers working on 3/10 Deal with Koji Uehara

NPB Tracker, via rotoworld:

Sanspo is reporting that Texas is working on 3-year, $10m+ proposal for Uehara. Team president Nolan Ryan is quoted as trusting Jim Colborn’s evaluation of Uehara, but they need a little more time to decide on a direction. The problem is, Texas prefers Uehara has a reliever, and he’s looking for a rotation job. The Mets met with Uehara’s agent in Las Vegas, and are planning to meet with him again. NY seems to prefer him in a bullpen role as well.

I'd add more commentary, but I know nothing about the guy.  Does this qualify as a legitimate fanpost?

As an aside...why do we trust Jim Colborn's evaluations?  Remind me what's so great about him.
