Outside Looking In...
This is even hard to watch for an outside of the box fan of another team in the division (it really doesn't matter what team). I looked at the Chicago roster in the pre-season and saw some elite talent, but also a lot of holes and virtually no depth. I must say, I am pleasantly surprised for you in the production of your rookie class, both Knox and Afalava(sp?) have been solid producers, with both being in the conversation for stal of the draft. My question to the Bears Faithful: Where do you go?? You have a young, franchise QB, a promising young RB and a breakout young TE, but your other pieces are either aging quickly, injured or not blowing the world away at their given positions (please understand that there is no disrespect intended)
I, for one, was hoping for the NFC North junkyard dog fight that the media had us anticipating coming into the season, but the only team that is performing where I thought they would is Detroit, with MN being a game or so better and both GB and Chi a game or three worse... I also have to say that I'm not that surprised to see any of these 4 teams where they are right now, especially given the injuries for the Bears.
With that said, I'd like to get back to that question I asked: Play armchair GM for me over the next 3 years and give me a best case scenario on how you would use the current draft picks you have and maybe pepper in some free agency, but please try and be realistic; I am seriously curious as to how Chicago restores order and becomes a legit threat again.
Time to give some props to Chilly??
OK everybody,
I'm willing to admit to you that up until this year, Brad Childress Football was about as much fun to watch as paint dry. But let's look at what he's accomplished since he took over for Mike Tice and where he and the rest of the personnel guys have us sitting for the future... I also will talk about how loose he and the players seem this year...
Anyway, here are the starters and role players that have been drafted in the Childress era:
Adrian Peterson, Sidney Rice, Chad Greenway, Cedric Griffin, Brian Robison, Cheech Harvin, Phil Loadholt, Tyrell Johnson, Tarvaris Jackson
And the vets he's brought in:
Steve Hutchinson, Jared Allen, Brett Favre, Bernard Berrian, Madieu Williams, Jimmy Kennedy, Chester Taylor, Sage Rosenfels
I know I'm forgetting people, but seriously, has any other team done more while sacrificing less as far as draft picks to build a team that can win now, but has the ability to keep filling holes as they come??
Now that Childress has the pieces he needs, we actually have that KAO going, and Chilly has warmed up a bit, to the point of dressing like a flight attendant on the way to Pittsburgh last week. I am a convert. I didn't like Childress at all up until this year, and now I think we may have the guy that the Wilfs told us we had several years ago. I want to commend the owners and the whole team for giving Childress the latitude and time to rebuild a strong team. I'd like to hear from the supporters, the detractors and the converts here; tell me what you think of Childress this year...
Can you even argue at this point??
OK. So this summer there was a lot of debate over what Favre was anymore... Was he still a Top 10 passer?? Was he even a significant upgrade over the current QB's on the roster?? I think that Brett Favre is without question a Top 10 QB and it could be argued that he is a Top 5 QB thus far this season. I'd love to see some Top 10 lists from people and see how it works out...
Can you blame him??
Hi, friendly neighborhood Vikings fan here... Just wanted to ask you guys a serious question... Can you blame Brett Favre for wanting to "stick it" to Ted Thompson?? I don't really see this as BF hating on the organization, fans or state of Wisconsin, I just see it as Brett Favre being honest... Professional athletes are some of the most competitive people in the worls by definition, and even to us average Joe's I think that idea makes sense... If I was let go from my job and told that they had found someone younger and cheaper that they thought could do my job for a long time, and do it better than I could, I'd want to "stick it" to that guy too! No doubt BF goes into the Hall as a Packer, and no doubt TT made the right call; I'd trade you BF for ARodg right now, he's the best QB in the Division... Good Luck to the Pack tonight, and SKOL VIKINGS!!

I may be wrong, but I hope I'm right...
Let's just pretend that Brad Childress is a diabolical NFL Genius along the lines of a Billichek or a Martz... Let's pretend that we are using a vanilla offense and defense because that's all we need to beat the teams we've played, and why use our good stuff when we don't need it. I'm really hoping that we're using basic schemes to prevent too much from being on tape, and that we're using practice to pretty much rest AD and give BF as much time to work on the intermediate and long game with his receivers... Then, when we play a Green Bay/Pittsburgh/Baltimore, we smoke them long as they stack the box... God, I hope I'm not wrong, because right now, if I were a diabolical NFL mind, taht's exactly what I'd be doing... Flying under the radar... It's kind of like when I used to play tennis left handed against my little brother... Until he scored a few nice points that is...

Purple Judas...
Just heard the guy on PTI filling in for Kornheiser use this term and I thought a few of you might love it!! Just think about Paul Allen calling it... "2nd and 2 on their own 48 yard line, Rice and Berrian wide, Harvin in the slot, Shaincoe next to Loadholt, Purple Jesus dotting the I... Purple Judas takes the snap and hands off to Purple Jesus; NO! Purple Judas naked bootleg, rolls out and hits Percy harvin on the crossing route, he makes the Safety miss to the 40, the 30, the 20, TOUCHDOWN PERCY HARVIN!!! Yeah, that last bit was to get to 75 words....
Purple Judas???
OK, I'm a huge Vikings fan, but I was just watching PTI, and the guy filling in for Wilbon just used that term, and I thought you guys would love it too... Gotta love the idea of Purple Jesus taking handoffs from Purple Judas!! (Should almost be Purple Moses for what he does to opposing offenses; parts them like the Red Sea) Sorry about the last part, just trying to get to the minimum word count...
here's a thought...
I was reading a quote from Sage after the game on Friday talkinga bout how he was more comfortable out there during the game than he had been in camp, and I was wondering if anybody else thinks that it might have something to do with having to go up against the Vikings Defense every day in practice... The game has to go into slow motion a little bit when you have to throw on a front 7 that made arguably the best QB in the league look absolutely terrible. I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on how much better the Vikings Offense is going to be purely from having to go against the Vikings Defense every day...
Just stay healthy out there guys....
ESPN can't just let us be...
I just turned on Sports Canter as I was getting ready for the 9-5 job, and the talking heads are conjecturing about an "unnamed Viking" who expects Brett Favre in purple at some point in the season... After watching Friday night, I thought Sage looked rock solid, the Defense looked just scary, and the Special Teams looked much improved... Now here's the poll, who do we want?? I don't know right now... What do you think??
It's July, let's talk HDTV...
Hey there sports fans, I thought I'd throw out a random poll about what sport you think HDTV has improved the most... Is it Football because you can now see where the safeties are lined up? Hockey because you can actually see the colors of the jearseys due to proper white balance?? Baseball or Golf because you can see every blade of grass? Basketball because it almost feels liek you're there?? NASCAR because left turns are a little less boring in HD? I digress... I'm looking forward to reading your comments... It's a slow news day...
Poll: What's the most unforgiveable??
Allright everybody... We all know that the NFL is full giant men who essentially beat on each other for a living. The vast majority of these men are, in fact, men. There are, however, too many boys who look like men giving the whole league a bad name by doing unspeakable things off the field, only to have their actions mostly ignored due to their athletic prowess off the field. I have my own personal opinions, but I want to see what all of you think too...
I'm also talking about the general infractions, not necessarily the guilty players who blow .081 or take a diet pill or gently bash someone over the head with a brass pole...
Poll: If not Chilli, Who??
OK friends, I know we're all sick of the current mid-June QB controversy, so I thought I'd throw this poll out there... As I stated in a response on another thread, there are, I believe THREE teams with coaches who have Super Bowl Victories under their belts: Steelers, Giants and Pats... The NFL has gone toward a seriously youth movement, so there are several pedigreed ex-head coaches out there right now. I'm not saying I'm against Brad Childress, I'm withholding judgement until we see what he does with this year's team... I'd like to hear your thoughts if you were the Wilf's what would you do??
The Bengal we need is Housh...
I'm sorry, but in all of this conversation, we're missing a big piece in having a 1-2 punch at wideout, and TJ Houshmandzadeh would fit as an extremely strong compliment to our KAO. With Berrian stretching the field and Bobby Wade in the slot, we have Housh as the posession man that you have to respect. Then we throw Jeff Garcia under center for 2 years and he mentors TJack and the Booty man on how you stay in/make it to the NFL. Jeff Garcia not only fought his way out of the CFL to become a dangerous NFL QB, he has the skill set we are looking for. Those two moves still should give us the cap space to sign everybody we need to and draft the best available off the board. I would also like to see our defensive secondary get stronger, but I think Garcia (or Hasslebeck for that matter, although his sister-in-law bugs the crap out of me) could put us in an elite field... Draft OT and CB in the first 2 rounds if it works out, and we are essentially a lock for the Division Title and then some...
SKOL!
