PECOTA projects Cubs for 77 wins
At first I was surprosed but after looking at the projections I can't really argue with many of them. I think our pitching will maybe be a little better but I think their offensive projection is pretty much right on.
Pie traded to Baltimore
Here is the link to the article. It doesn't look like the Cubs got anything useful in return for him. Is he a bigger bust then Patterson? At least the Cubs got a few productive years out of CPat. It would not surprise me to see Pie have a decent year in the AL. If Lou had just let him play last year I think he would have been just as productive as Fukudome. How many ex-Cubs do the O's have now. Maybe Pie and Montanez will lead the O's to the playoffs.

The full article is only for subscribers but the list can be seen by everyone so that is all I will post.
Summary: Yup, that's about it. The Cubs are not a team based on youth; even Soto turns 26 in January. They are also not a team in need of a youth movement, and that's a good thing, because this is a weak system in which finding any future Cub stars requires quite a bit of dreaming.
Not a lot of talent there especially if Vitters gets traded for Peavy. I'm not really a fan of Samardzjia and I see him as bullpen material for the future. Their summary of saying the Cubs don't need a deep system at this point is right on but I can't help but wonder what will happen as everyone ages.
