Well, MLB screwed this up, first postponing the announcement for over a week and then trying to save face by unjustly suspending Gameboard for a game. This is obviously a public image move..because they can't completely eliminate the suspension. It would make MLB *gasp* actually admit wrongdoing for once!

Slightly OT: The World Baseball Classic

As many of you already know, the World Baseball Classic begins today, with defending champion Japan taking on China to open up the international tournament.

Here's the bracket for the event.

The United States team features the hottest name of the winter for Cubs fans, Jake Peavy, as well as the venerable Derek Jeter and a bullpen that the Cubs can counter (LaTroy Hawkins?!) and take down on their own.

Venezuela, defending champion Japan, the USA, and the Dominican Republic are the top contenders to be the 2nd "World Champion of Baseball".

Cubs players featured in the WBC are Geovany Soto, Kosuke Fukudome, Ted Lilly, and Carlos Marmol.

Al already posted an article on the main page about ways to fix the World Baseball Classic. This thread is specifically about the 2009 version and the actual games.

My prediction is a Dominican Republic victory over defending champion Japan. I will try and catch as much of the action as I can but it's not my top priority with college basketball heating up.

What are your predictions for the 2009 World Baseball Classic and will you be watching?

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that I got around to it and created a Bleed Cubbie Blue! Yahoo Fantasy Baseball League.

The league currently holds 8 teams but everyone who wants to join is invited. The maximum teams is 20 so hopefully the league can be filled.

The info for the league is as follows...

ID: 62093
PW: lebron

Draft Time: Monday, March 23rd @ 7:00 pm.

Please join only if you intend to stay active and participate.

Sorry Al, I couldn't find the old fanpost on the topic so I created a new one.

Thanks to all who join and good luck to everyone in their own leagues this year!

Go Cubs!

I get the fact that the Cubs have been playing terribly of late...Fukudome, Sori, Lee, Soto, Ramirez, Theriot...none of them have been doing anything.

Zambrano wasn't too bad tonight, the defense failed him...DeRosa and Edmonds are the only two laying wood on the ball...but they showed signs of life in the bottom of the 9th and ended with a little momentum.

Who's to say that Rich Harden can't come out and dominate game 3 Saturday night?! Rich Harden is rested, healthy, and ready to get out there...I anticipate and have been calling a Cubs victory since the rotation was posted...Lilly has been on fire and has that bulldog mentality to get this team back home in Chicago again.

Down 2-0, facing seemingly insurmountable odds, it's easy to hang your head and give up hope...but we've been through too much as fans to just GIVE UP on this team!!

So in short...DONT GIVE UP ON THIS TEAM!!! We have the best chance of anyone to comeback down 2-0...the offense is bound to hit in warmer LA...and Rich Harden and Ted Lilly arguably could have been the starters in games 1 and 2...let's keep it together until we're officially done and hope that the best...(an epic all-time comeback..hey we've had a few of those this year!) is yet to come...

GO CUBS!!
