This is a pretty neat article about a survey of 18 Cubs pitchers as to who has the best stuff.

Notables:

Starter to win one game
Dempster: 55.8 percent

Reliever to get one out
Marmol: 72.2 percent

Nastiest pitch
Zambrano's slider, slitter, sinker: 5.9 percent
Anything by Zambrano: 11.8 percent
Marmol slider: 47.1 percent

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted already but it's a little "Who knows me better?" game-show with Theriot as the subject and Fontenot and Theriot's wife as the competitors.

Good stuff if a bit corny

Remind me why we're watching Paul Bako and Koyie Hill battle it out for our backup catcher position.

Blanco had a great game. In all honesty, I have a lot of respect for Hendry and I have high hopes for this season but damned if this doesn't cause some consternation.

In the third inning on Wednesday, catcher Henry Blanco launched an 0-1 pitch from USA starter Ted Lilly into the left-field stands for a solo home run that put Venezuela on the board

Kerry Wood Finalizes Deal with Indians

I came online to offer my congratulations to Kerry Wood in whichever fanpost had been posted already, but none has been put up yet so here's the link to ESPN's article about Kerry Wood's new deal.

Two years for $20.5 milion. This is exactly why Hendry let Wood go, he couldn't afford to sign woody at this price and Woody deserves this. While I will miss Wood on our team very much, I am very happy for him to be able to come back from all his injuries and be an extremely successful and highly paid closer in the Major Leagues.

Congratulations and Good luck Kerry!

9/18/08

The Scene is Wrigley Field. Bottom of the 9th, Score is 6-3, 2 outs. Cubs have already scored 1 on an Aramis Double and Edmonds Single. DeRosa hit a line drive and runners are now on First and Third. Geo comes to bat...

Credit to Comcast SportsNet for the footage. This was basically a screen cap so I have no clue how long it will last before big brother takes it down so enjoy it while you can!

This was absolutely amazing - I've been to and seen so many unreal games this season! My personal record for games attended is 18-2.

I was at the no-no, the comeback game down 9-0 against colorado, the 19 run game against the brewers and many more....

Replace Howry with the Shark?

Even though Jeff Samardzija gave up the tying run today due to a rookie mistake, a wild pitch, he still kept the game manageable in two nice innings of work. Unfortunately the Cubs offense couldn't "Howry Proof" the game.

So we have one young pitcher who throws absolute fireballs - he was hitting 97 - and one aging pitcher who's completely lost his consistency. Something he used to be known for.

This all begs the question, should we DFA Howry and let the Shark stay up when wood returns from the DL in a few days?

If we're going for the world series THIS YEAR, I'm not sure we can afford to let a veteran work out his demons. The bullpen has been shaky as of late and I personally think an infusion of new blood would be a good thing. Especially in the form of the Shark who comes with his own swagger and big game confidence.

Is there someone else in the Bullpen who we'd rather replace?

Thoughts?

Peter King of Sports Illustrated in the Bleachers Today

My girlfriend and I went to the game today and sat in the bleachers - sorry we didn't stop by this time Al - and were treated to a very sunny game that ended up being a pitcher's duel. The guys to our right were abuzz and I learned that it was because the guy immediately to our left was Peter King, a senior football sportswriter from Sports Illustrated.

He was apparently in town for a day and decided to walk up and buy a ticket to enjoy the game. It was his first game in 3 years and he had a very professional looking spiral book of scorecards. Being from Boston, he wore a Boston Red Sox hat but as soon as people figured out who he was, they were very cordial and friendly. A few people bought him beers and made him feel welcome.

Unfortunately, he left after the 8th inning and didn't get to see Wood pitch. He did get to see the Aramis Ramirez 3 run bomb and was hooting and hollering and high-fiving with the rest of us, a broad grin on his face.

Thought I'd mention this because it was a pretty cool experience - I could repeat a couple stories he told us but I don't want to do that without his permission.

Roger Clemens?

I'm almost scared to bring up this subject but there have been reports that Roger Clemens is not done - I don't have an article to link at the moment, though it's on ESPN insider's rumor central. Houston was the team cited as potentially re-signing him.

Do we have any interest? Yes? No? Maybe so?

That brings up another question I asked a friend of mine - if given the choice between these two shamed superstars, who would you rather have, Bonds or Clemens?
