OT: Old Video. A little nostalgia for anyone over I guess about 35 who grew up in Chicago. Also if you bring this up to the side is Hardrock Coco and Joe.
Baseball Wives on E True Hollywood Story
While none of the Cubs are on it, the special really takes an interesting look into the lives of the players off the field.
The players involved are Jorge Posada (Good story about his son), Casey Daigel and his struggles, David Eckstein and one other who's name suddenly escapes me..
If you catch a rerun listed it's a good watch.
A day late but 25 years to the day
"Walter Payton becomes the all time leading rusher surpassing Jim Brown" and then a few hours later.....
"I'm not a doctor but I once played one on TV" OT but Cubs connections.
Tomorrow marks the end of an era. Guiding Light a show probably your mother or grandmother watched leaves the airwaves after a combined 72 years on TV and radio.
Why the quote? I used to cover it for soap magazines and got to be an extra as a doctor a few times.
The Cubs connections:
1. Irna Phillips used to sit at Wrigley and write scripts in the late 30s and early 40s.
2. Characters were Cub fans as Springfield was supposed to be in the NW suburbs of Chicago unofficially. Through the years many a Cubs souveniere was seen.
3. For a few years in the 80s one of the writers was a huge Cubs fan and many 1 day characters were named after Cubs.
4. A few years ago they had a storyline where a character was a major league prospect. One of the writers at the time actually grew up with Hendry and Hendry helped with accuracy for the storyline.
I watched the show on and off for 26 years. Been DVRing it all week.
Many famous people got their starts on the show.
And it's the linchpin for a lot of 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon arguments.
How are Kevin Bacon and Hayden Pannetiere (sp) of Heroes connected?
Kevin Bacon was on Guiding Light with many people who were on when Hayden was,
If Lou is gone next year?
If Lou does leave is Ryno ready or someone else? I'm not sure Ryno is ready so who else? Brenly? Trammel? Any other ideas?
Today at noon on WGN Radio Cubs related but also OT
They're going to have a special on the business of sports featuring Crane Kenney, John McDonough and the Sports Director at Northwestern.
Thought many here could find it interesting.
Right after 11 am on WGN Radio (OT)
They did this around 9 and are repeating at 1105 ish.
Ron Santo calling the Moon landing/
I literally fell down on the floor laughing so hard.
I'm sure it would be on WGN radio.com later
It's a tie ballgame I can't believe it - Bob Costas
And with those words a new era began for the Cubs 25 years ago today.
That was the day a change happened with the Cubs. We still haven't been all the way but in the 39 years before that the postseason was dark at Wrigley Field and in 26 years since we've seen 5 division titles and a wild card.
For those old enough where were you?
I was at the game celebrating my 16th birthday 2 weeks early. I am such a Cubs geek I had my sweet 16 at Wrigley.
Kathy and Judy are gone from WGN.
This is mostly off topic but they did host Not for Women Only at the Convention and it is the Cubs radio station.
Should the Cubs consider moving Soriano down while Ramirez is out?
As long as Theriot is getting on base and Fukudome is hitting to fill in #1 and #2 any thought to moving Soriano down to get some power in the middle of the lineup?
