Bring Back John Blake
To help OU recruit! Stoops won a national title with players Blake recruited right?
Go get someone like him that cannot coach, but can relate to the kids better.
Think About this....
OU broke the history books for most points scored ever last year and yet they struggle finding new O lineman and high profile receivers that can catch. I do not get it? Is it due to OU location and that players think it's a boring state?
Are the kids still more concerned w/ weather, girls and parties than they are education and best chance of getting to pros?
OU Offense Needs to be Creative
In the world of business or war planning, the excutives or generals know that if you are the weaker side or out manned in terms of numbers, speed, and power, than you have to be CREATIVE to overcome these disadvantages.
I perfect example of a coach that gets this is Urban Meyer and Miami Dolphins staff.
When I hear OU offensive cord Kevin Wilson talk, I do not hear someone that understands this or "gets it". Instead, I hear the same old "be tough" and over power the other line. Old school type talk.
Sure, that is football and should be your basics. But, that is no excuse to not have more mis-direction plays, bootlegs, draws, screens, reverses, etc. With Murry, it is pathetic that we did not attempt a simple reverse in the BYU game. I am not talking about something that has to have a mobile QB, just some misdirection plays that use simple schemes or 2 back sets. Shoot, throw in some option w/ Brown and Murry back there. Then, pass out of the option set etc.
If one combs the history books, you can see many examples of how trickery or cleaverness helped build this country. And, considering we are The Sooners, which used cheating to win, surely, we can find an ounce of trickery somewhere! :))
OU Will Win Out Rest of Games!
Sometimes it takes a big lose to wake a team up. The most recent I can remember is 2008 Florida Gators - They lost to Ole Miss AT HOME. Then they go on to play OU for a national title.
Sure, Tebow was not injured like Bradford is, however, I do not think our backup QB is our biggest concern.
1. Receiver need to catch balls
2. Fix Blitz so they work - currently take too long to get to QB
3. Offensive line a mess
Good news....
1. Special teams might be better
2. D - line run stopping
3. We lost early in season in time to make it up
Any new plays or schemes added to OU this year?
OFFENSE
Has anybody heard if OU is going to add any new plays to it's offense this year? Like the wild cat or something?
Frankly, with Madu, Murray, and Calhoun, I wish they would run more boot legs and screens!! Being the nations leading scoring team, can't blame them to change nothing =)
DEFENSE
If OU has weaker safeties this year, would that mean they Blitz more or less? I would blitz more and take the gamble....but what would OU's Venables do?
Suprise Team in SEC...and possible next OU coach =)
Ole Miss!
That's right. I lived in Arkansas for years when he was their. He had terrible recruiting area and issues to deal with their...but not at Ole Miss. Watch out for this Switzer w/ ADHD offensive mastermind, players coach.
If OU ends up playing them in a Bowl game, I will cry. We need to root for OU to play a team that has another "serious" coach to have a chance to win. If it's a players coach type, we have an up hill battle folks.
If Stoops' goes to NFL after this season, I can only hope that Athletic director Joe gets Houston Nutt to OU in a hurry.
Key for OU Winning BCS Bowl Game...
1. Stoops' NOT doing his normal regular season mode of keeping his players on an even keel emotionally Stop trying to keep them from going too low or too high emotionally - let loose
2. Let kids get excited! If you have to Bobby, ask Switzer to join the locker room to losen your boys up
3. Watch some coaches who do not attempt to make the players unemotional robots - Pete Carroll, Houston Nut are 2 of my favorite (watch out for Ole Miss too - Nutt is a Switzer w/ ADD)
4. Aside from this, the only other thing would be to get your brother Mike back =)
If they reach a BCS bowl game and I hear them talk about being more focused and serious again, I will bet againt OU every time. On the other hand, if I hear a different tone of letting lose, having fun, and playing as kids...watch out.
